The Forest of High Peak was, in medieval times, a moorland forest covering most of the north west of Derbyshire, England, extending as far south as Tideswell and Buxton. From the time of the Norman Conquest it was established as a royal hunting reserve, administered by William Peverel, a follower of William I, who was based at Peveril Castle.
The south western area between the River Wye and the Kinder Scout was relatively open country, which was enclosed by a low wall, sufficient to keep out cattle and sheep but allow the deer to roam. The area was known as Campana, the other two being Hopedale and Longdendale. The point where they met is to this day marked by Edale Cross.
As well as his custodianship of the Forest, William also held a number of manors that formed part of what was recorded in the Domesday Survey as the Honour of Peverel. His son, also William, was granted a number of further manors, such that the Peverels could regard it as their demesne, apart from the manors of Muchedeswell and Tickhill which belonged to Henry de Ferrers.
High Peak or High Peaks may refer to:
High Peak is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Andrew Bingham, a Conservative.
1983–2010: The Borough of High Peak, and the District of West Derbyshire wards of Bradwell, Hathersage, and Tideswell.
2010–present: The Borough of High Peak.
The constituency covers much of northern Derbyshire and represents most of the west of the Peak District which encircles Buxton and Glossop.Crowden, Tintwistle and Woodhead (formerly within the boundaries of Cheshire and in the Stalybridge and Hyde constituency) were brought into the seat in the boundary changes for the 1983 general election. The constituency boundaries became co-terminous with the local government district at the 2010 general election.
Areas around the Hope Valley have a Conservative majority, whereas the north western part of the constituency, in Glossop (especially the Manchester overspill estate of Gamesley), Hadfield and Tintwistle, are more Labour-inclined. Buxton is often divided between the two main parties. The seat has considerable connections with Manchester (and the Hope Valley with Sheffield), rather than the East Midlands.

In April 2012 Centrebus and Wellglade Group entered a 50/50 joint venture. This saw Bowers Coaches and Trentbarton's Buxton operations combined based at the latter's Dove Holes depot.

Some buses are still in Bowers red livery while Cheshire Connect vehicles used on former Bowers route around the Macclesfield area retain the current livery as part of the contract with Cheshire East Council.
