North Carolina Republican Party

The North Carolina Republican Party is the affiliate of the Republican Party in North Carolina. Hasan Harnett was elected Chairperson of the party on June 6, 2015.

The elections of 2010 led to Republican control of both houses of the North Carolina General Assembly for the first time since 1896. In 2012, Republicans retained control of the legislature and elected two Republicans, Pat McCrory and Dan Forest, as Governor and Lieutenant Governor, respectively. Most of the other Council of State offices (the Governor and Lieutenant Governor are Chairman and Vice Chairman, respectively) remain under Democratic control (the other Republicans are Cherie K. Berry, Commissioner of Labor and Steve Troxler, Commissioner of Agriculture.)

History

Nineteenth century

Although Republicans first nominated a candidate for President of the United States, John C. Fremont, in 1856, the party was not established in North Carolina until after the Civil War, in 1867. With the help of the newly enfranchised freedmen, Republicans were briefly successful in state politics, dominating the convention that wrote the North Carolina Constitution of 1868 and electing several governors. After Reconstruction, Democrats returned to power. Republicans did have success in the 1890s when they joined forces with the Populist party in an "electoral fusion".

Republican People’s party (CHP) which is usually credited as the founder of Turkish republic in 1923 was the oldest party in Turkey. But after the party adopted the policy of so-called left of center in 1960s, two groups of MPs broke away from the party. The first group in 1967 founded the Reliance Party. Republican Party was founded by the second group in 1972.

The party was founded on 4 September 1972. The chairman of the Party was Kemal Satır, an ex vice prime minister. But it was a short lived party . On 28 February 1973 it was merged to Nationalistic Reliance Party (aka Reliance Party), which was renamed Republican Reliance Party.

Apsny (political party)

Apsny was the main political party in Abkhazia until 2005. Founded as a social movement, it became a political party in February 2001. It elected as its co-chairmen member of the People's Assembly Maia Agrba and Rushni Jopua and as its Executive Secretary Nugzar Agrba.

On 8 February 2005, along with eleven smaller parties and movements, Apsny was transformed into the Forum for the National Unity of Abkhazia.
