Cheap Halogen Work Lights vs Expensive Fluorescent for DSLR Video
www.learningdslrvideo.com In this video I compare the quality of Halogen to Fluorescent lighting for video work. I have been using halogen work lights for lighting my studio videos for many years. I have a project coming up where I need good portable lighting and my halogen's are really not that portable. The halogen lights give good results for a small price but they have several issues with them. They use a ton of current, this one set of lights is using about 900 watts. They also are very hot, so hot I never leave them unattended. Needless to say they are also not very professional looking. They don't mix well with daylight because of their lower color temp. There are so many types of lights out there, but which is best for portable use? I see HMI's used on movie sets, but after looking at the pricing I can take that off my list. I also hear good things about Tungsten lights, but after talking to a Westcott rep, Tungsten bulbs only last about 80 hours, I can take them off the list too. I am looking for something that runs cool and doesn't take a ton of power. So what does that leave me with, LED and Florescent. LED's are coming down in price and coming up in quality and I will be review them soon, but for this video I want to compare where I started (Halogen) from to where I might be heading (Florescent). My first question I have is which is better, Halogen or Florescent in terms of quality. My halogen's have a color temp of about 3200K while the Westcott softbox that ...

Smashed halogen light bulb still works
Don't try this at home! The new GE Edison and Sylvania Daylight Plus light bulbs look and act like ordinary incandescent bulbs, but actually contain a halogen capsule inside -- so they will still work even if the outer glass shell is broken, as I rather dangerously prove in this video. The Sylvania in particular uses an extremely thick outer glass shell which is very difficult to break. By the way, I highly recommend these bulbs. They are brighter than ordinary incandescent bulbs and last three times as long, without any of the disadvantages of compact fluorescent bulbs (slow turn-on and warm-up, radio interference, greenish tint, dangerous mercury contamination when broken, etc.).

Energy saving halogen lamp mod. Save up to 75% energy.
This video shows a very simple modification that you can make to a light that takes a 230W or 300W linear halogen bulb. Halogen lamps are extremely inefficient, so there is a significant cost to their use. This 5 minute mod will show you how to retrofit a state-of-the-art high efficiency technology bulb. In this video, I install a linear metal halide lamp (for better brightness, better light quality and better lamp life - you can use a "ceramic metal halide" bulb - these are a bit more expensive, but come up on ebay fairly regularly for a very low cost). The lamp used is a: 70 W Rx7S double-ended metal halide [this type of bulb will fit in a normal 230/300 W halogen fitting], made by BLV. It has a "4000K neutral white" colour. Any metal halide or ceramic metal halide, as long as it is 70 W double ended Rx7S should work. They are available in 3000K "warm white" (a very good match for normal halogens), as well as 5500-6500K "daylight simulation", 8000-20000K "blue white" and a number of primary colours (blue, green, orange, pink). The ballast is a Philips HID-PV C 070/I CDM, 70W electronic ballast. Almost any 70W electronic metal halide/ceramic metal halide ballast should work. Ceramic metal halide lamps, if you can get them, are the most efficient white lighting available. Far more efficient than LEDs and compact fluorescents (while producing a much more pleasant light), and significantly more efficient than linear fluorescent striplights.

Halogen lamp transformers
Halogen bulbs with 12 V supply voltage do have significantly improved performance characteristics, but they still require power adapters. Such adapters can be represented by electronic and electromagnetic transformers. When choosing between the two kinds, you should keep in mind, that although both the transformers have equal parameters, the electronic one still has a number of advantages.

Smashing a Philips EcoVantage halogen incandescent light bulb
Philips EcoVantage is one of the new halogen incandescent light bulbs, designed to meet the 25% efficiency improvement mandated by the USA's so-called "incandescent light bulb ban" which begins to take effect in October 2012. Unfortunately these halogen bulbs seem to burn out more often than regular incandescent bulbs -- at least in blue-tinted "Natural Light" form; the one non-tinted "Soft White" EcoVantage bulb I have has lasted a lot longer so far -- so I smashed open a burned-out EcoVantage bulb to reveal the halogen capsule inside.

Halogen Headlight Bulb Replacement
Find more information about "Electrical and Lighting" on the Dennis Kirk website: bit.ly Halogen bulbs are similar to regular incandescent bulbs but have a small amount of halogen gas added. The addition of the gas allows the bulb to burn brighter, and is why they are commonly used where brighter light is needed, such as this headlight and assembly. The use of halogen in the bulb creates a small caveat, in that because the bulb burns brighter and uses more power, any oils from your fingers can cause the bulb to fail prematurely. Even freshly washed hands will emit oils that could ruin the bulb. It is essential that you do not touch the bulb with your bare hands when installing. There's a few options for ensuring that this does not happen. Many bulbs include a small painted tip to help with handling. You could also use a cloth or wear gloves when handling a halogen bulb. For most headlight fixtures the process for replacing a bulb is simple and can easily be performed without touching the bulb with your bare hands. I'm going install this bulb into this Drag Specialties headlight now. Should your bare hands come into contact with a halogen bulb, you can carefully clean the oils off the surface with alcohol. Ensure that the bulb is completely dry before installing it and turning the light of for the first time.

Selecting photography Lighting (Monolight,Fluorescent light halogen light, lighting kit, video)
When choosing photography lights, the most important question for your strategy is where you're going to shoot. The lights that work best for an indoor shoot are completely different from what you would use outside. That's because outside, you're either fighting the sun or ambient light. Shooting indoors offers you more control so you can use more smaller lights than you would need outdoors. When choosing your lighting package for an indoor shoot ask yourself the following questions: What's my ideal exposure? How intense do I want the light? How many sources are there going to be? What do I want the color temperature to be? Snapchick will give us an overview of the light sets.

Differences between the LED and halogen diving lights
Visit www.scuba.com to purchase scuba gear, scuba diving equipment & snorkeling gear. This instructional video by Scuba.com explains the difference between the two major types of lights. They are the Halogen (Xeon) and LED. The Halogen has a single glass bulb just like any other light we are used to seeing and the LED light has a diode with no glass involved. The significant difference between the two is that the LED is much more durable and the light is a different spectrum. It is more of a white light unlike the halogen that has a yellow light. The LED also has a longer burning time than the Halogen bulb too. The major advantage to an LED light is the amount of battery life you get. If you change your batteries three times with LED light you will end up changing your batteries nine times with halogen lights. Although the LED is about three times as much, in the long run you will save more money on batteries and bulbs. To purchase scuba gear, scuba diving equipment & snorkeling gear visit http
