FREEDOM BEACH

Work on the Alley continues the next stage of resurfacing giving us a new sand coloured “beach” outside just in time for summer fun! Come and enjoy the new seaside and even buy a book too.

BOOK MOVING DAY- SUNDAY 26th 1pm

In preperation for reopening on the 1st of June we will have to shift around a lot of our stock and being lazy are asking for your help. If you are free for a few hours on Sunday afternoon and can carry books up and down stairs please pop along.

REOPENING PARTY

We will be having a grand reopening party for the Freedom Bookshop on Saturday 1st June starting 2pm. There will be nibbles and refreshments as well as highbrow bookish discourse and witty repartee. We extend an especial invite to everyone who has contributed to the cleanup and restoration. (p.s we’re still open upstairs in the meantime)

Benefit events

There have already been many successful benefit events since the firebomb, and there are still plenty more coming up – check them out here.

Rainbow shop opens

While we do repairs and renovations downstairs after the firebomb attack, we’ve opened a substitute bookshop upstairs. It’s been designed by ‘Isla’™ and is known as the rainbow bookshop because all the books are sorted by colour. This isn’t as silly as it might sound. Firstly everything will have to be moved downstairs again in a week or two so sorting them out by subject would be a waste of time, and secondly it’s amazing how many people ask for books by colour.
Check out the latest firebomb benefit events.

How you can help

We’d like to thank the many people who have already helped us try and sort out the mess after the firebomb at the bookshop. With your help we will be back better than ever!

The clean-up continues on Wednesday 6th, Thursday 7th and Friday 8th February from 1pm, so spread the word.

All welcome. Read more »

Bookshop re-opens

Following Friday’s firebomb attack we’ve had an amazing response from people worldwide.

So much so that we will be able to open the shop on Monday 4th February for business… not quite as usual, but reasonably close.

Our stock is somewhat reduced, but now features some interesting fire-damaged memorabilia. Read more »

The clean-up continues

We would like to thank everyone who came down on Saturday to help clean up the shop. We have been awestruck by the tremendous solidarity that’s been shown and also for the many supportive messages and donations that have been sent to us from around the world.

The clean-up will be continuing at the bookshop on Sunday 3rd February from 1pm until around 3pm, so please spread the word. All welcome. Read more »
