Southern Italian (Dialetti italiani meridionali), or Napoletano-Calabrese, is a group of Italo-Dalmatian Romance dialects spoken in Southern Lazio, Southern Marche, Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Basilicata, Apulia, and Northern Calabria. Part of a language continuum, they are all mutually intelligible and are often referred to as the Neapolitan language, from being largely coterminous with the old Kingdom of Naples and from Naples' historic role as capital of the region. Ethnologue groups the dialects as Napoletano-Calabrese and gives them the status of a language. Some consider the dialects simply as Italian dialects affected by a Samnite substratum.

The following are considered Southern Italian dialects:

Ignacio Gómez (born c. 1962; also known as "Nacho") is a Colombian journalist known for his high-risk reporting on organized crime, corruption, and paramilitary groups. In 2002, he was awarded the International Press Freedom Award of the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Gómez began working at El Espectador, a daily newspaper in Bogota, at the age of 24. The paper's editor-in-chief at the time was Guillermo Cano, who was a hero of Gómez. On 17 December 1986, only a few weeks after Gómez's hiring, Cano was assassinated outside the El Espectador's office by a man with a submachine gun, apparently in retaliation for his reporting on Pablo Escobar and other drug lords. In the 1980s and 1990s, Colombia had the highest rate of murders of reporters in the world, and over the next fourteen years, ten more El Espectador reporters would be murdered. Gómez later described the mood at El Espectador as "like having your gravestone tied around your neck".

In the late 1980s, Gómez continued Cano's mission of aggressively investigating Pablo Escobar's connections with the Colombian government, at one point publishing a list of properties in Medelin that the drug lord secretly owned. He also expanded his reporting into coverage of the conflict with far-right paramilitary groups, such as Carlos Castaño's Peasant Self-Defense Forces of Córdoba and Urabá (ACCU). In September 1988, he was forced to flee the country after a firebombing of El Espectador's offices believed to be a retaliation for his reporting, but he returned nine months later. In 1989 alone, he reported on 36 separate massacres.

Aurelio Fierro (13 September 1923 – 11 March 2005) was a successful Italian actor and singer who specialized in songs in the Neapolitan dialect.

He was born in Montella, in the Province of Avellino, Italy. His singing career began in 1951, after he came first place in a singing competition. He signed a recording contract with Durium Records to record songs in Italian and Napulitano. The following year, with the song "Rose, poveri rrose!", he came first in the Castellammare di Stabia music festival, and decided to become a professional singer.

His first big hit was with "Scapricciatiello", by Pacifico Vento and Ferdinando Albano, in 1954. In 1957 his song "Lazzarella" (written by Domenico Modugno and Riccardo Pazzaglia) was a success at the Naples song festival (Festival d'a Canzone Napulitana) and the eponymous film which followed (directed by Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia), in which he performed, was also a great success with the public. In the following years he took part in the San Remo song festival six times and toured world-wide, which contributed to his success abroad in the United States, South America and Japan. He was the singer of the winning song at the Naples song festival in 1961, 1965 and 1969.

Lisa Helen Mitchell (born 22 March 1990 in Canterbury, England) is an Australian singer-songwriter who grew up in Albury, New South Wales. Her debut EP, Said One To The Other topped iTunes in Australia and this success brought her to the attention of boutique London-based publisher, Little Victories [7], a subsidiary of Sony/ATV, with whom she signed in 2007. In 2008 Mitchell relocated to the UK where she spent the summer working on songs for her debut studio album, Wonder. Mitchell finished sixth in the 2006 season of Australian Idol.

Born to parents Angus and Ruth and with one sister Nicola, Mitchell moved to Australia at age 3, growing up in Albury, New South Wales. She attended The Scots School Albury. Beginning guitar lessons at 12 and leaning towards the folk and rock genres, she played in local cafes and events as well as with the cover band Chrome, taking inspiration from artists like Clare Bowditch and Joanna Newsom. She is now based in Melbourne, Victoria.

From August to September 2006 Mitchell rose to national prominence as a contestant on Australian Idol Season 4, performing cover versions, and two of her own compositions. She made the top 6 before being eliminated.
