Let's Play Baldur's Gate 2, Part 233 - Spellhold (Token Machine)
This series uses Baldur's Gate 2 Vanilla from GOG
The only 'mod' installed is the BG 2 Fixpack (Core Fixes) Version 10 from http://www.gibberlings3.net/
This will be my first complete play-through and I am a relative beginner to the world of the Forgotten Realms, so do not expect anything close to optimal gameplay!
I welcome any advice on gameplay or my recording, but because this is my first playthrough, PLEASE NO SPOILERS!
Thanks
Extra info:
I would regard my run as 'semi-blind'. With the exception of the very beginning of the game, I have no idea what to expect. I have avoided all walkthroughs/guides, but I have read the Manual that comes with the download from GOG, and I also use the following resources to help me in my journeys:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/258273-baldurs-gate-ii-shadows-of-amn/faqs/11334
http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/258273-baldurs-gate-ii-shadows-of-amn/faqs/13870
http://www.dotd.com/mm/MM00000.htm
I also ask very specific questions in non-spoiler sections of a very helpful BG community forum:
http://forum.baldursgate.com/
Finally I adhere to the following rules in my gameplay:
1) Limited Reloads: Only Imoen and Aerie are safe from the danger of permanent death. I will not reload for any setbacks/disasters unless it is game-ending, or occurred as a result of a bug.
2) No cheesy tactics. Unless absolutely forced to, I will not prepare using short-term buffs/protections even if I know a battle is imminent because of metagame knowledge. This rule does not apply when the character also knows a battle is imminent, for example because the party scout has spotted the enemy already, or the party is obviously about to storm a hostile position. I will never use exploits like triggering a battle and waiting for enemy spell protections to time-out. If I cannot win 'fairly', I do not win at all.
3) Limited Spells and Arcane Knowledge: All mages in the party will only learn as many spells as their intelligence allows. They will never use scrolls above the level of spells they can cast. As a player, I will only read the Arcane/Priest Magic guide up to the level of spells my most proficient caster can use, and 1 level higher for scrolls I already possess.
4) No cheating. I don't even know how to cheat with the console, but I do have Shadowkeeper installed. SK will only be used to fix very specific problems if they arise, and maybe correct things that occurred because of bugs or flawed design.
5) Limited Rest: Hard to set a clearly defined rule on this, but the idea is that the party will not rest in-between every battle. They will only rest at the end of a day, if party members are fatigued, or if they are genuinely short of spells. Otherwise they will press on, especially in dungeons, even if they do not have a full compliment of spells or in perfect health.
