The Ferrari F300 was a Formula One car designed by Rory Byrne for Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro to use in the 1998 season. It was powered by a 3.0 V10 engine and designed around a narrower track as mandated by the FIA in a series of regulation changes for that season.

The Ferrari F300 was a competitive and reliable car, however it was still aerodynamically inferior to the McLaren MP4/13. Despite this, Michael Schumacher battled his way to second place in the world championship behind Mika Häkkinen. Ferrari also finished as runners-up in the constructors' championship. The car was an excellent base for the dominance which Ferrari would achieve in the following seasons.

As with all Formula 1 cars, the F300 was heavily and consistently revised during the 1998 season. At the Argentina, a wider front tyre from Goodyear was introduced which significantly improved the handling of the car. "X-wings" were introduced at the San Marino Grand Prix, but were later banned due to safety reasons. A longer wheelbase version of the car was introduced for the German and Belgian Grand Prix's, and a new spec engine was also designed for the title-deciding Japanese GP. But the most significant upgrade to the car was introduced at the Canadian GP, where it received a new diffuser, new rear body panels, a new delta shaped front wing and top exiting exhausts, the latter of which improved cooling and aerodynamics of the car, and was so effective, many other teams copied the design.

Ferrari S.p.A. is an Italian sports car manufacturer based in Maranello, Italy. Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929, as Scuderia Ferrari, the company sponsored drivers and manufactured race cars before moving into production of street-legal vehicles as Ferrari S.p.A. in 1947. Throughout its history, the company has been noted for its continued participation in racing, especially in Formula One, where it has had great success. Ferrari road cars are generally seen as a symbol of luxury and wealth.

Enzo Ferrari wasn't initially interested in the idea of producing road cars when he formed Scuderia Ferrari (literally "Ferrari Stable", and usually used to mean "Team Ferrari", it is correctly pronounced [skudeˈriːa]) in 1928 as a sponsor for amateur drivers headquartered in Modena. Ferrari prepared, and successfully raced, various drivers in Alfa Romeo cars until 1938, when he was hired by Alfa Romeo to head their motor racing department.

Michael Schumacher (German pronunciation: [ˈmɪçaʔeːl ˈʃuːmaxɐ] ( listen); born 3 January 1969) is a German Formula One racing driver for the Mercedes team. Schumacher is a seven-time World Champion and is widely regarded as one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time. He holds many of the formula's driver records, including most championships, race victories, fastest laps, pole positions, points scored and most races won in a single season – 13 in 2004. In 2002 he became the only driver in Formula One history to finish in the top three in every race of a season and then also broke the record for most consecutive podium finishes. According to the official Formula One website he is "statistically the greatest driver the sport has ever seen".

After beginning with karting, Schumacher won German drivers' championships in Formula König and Formula Three before joining Mercedes in the World Sportscar Championship. After one Mercedes-funded race for the Jordan Formula One team Schumacher signed as a driver for the Benetton Formula One team in 1991. After winning consecutive championships with Benetton in 1994/5, Schumacher moved to Ferrari in 1996 and won another five consecutive drivers' titles with them from 2000 to 2004. Schumacher retired from Formula One driving in 2006 staying with Ferrari as an advisor. Schumacher agreed to return for Ferrari part-way through 2009, as cover for the badly injured Felipe Massa, but was prevented by a neck injury. He later signed a three-year contract to drive for the new Mercedes GP team starting in 2010.

Albert (Al) R. Ferrari (born July 6, 1933 in New York, New York) is an American former National Basketball Association player. At 6'4", and weighing 190 lbs, he played both at guard and forward. Before his basketball career he went to high school at Brooklyn Tech, in Brooklyn, New York and after he attended college at Michigan State University. He was drafted by the St. Louis Hawks in the 3rd round (1st pick) of the 1955 NBA Draft. In his six-season NBA career, he played for the Hawks and the Chicago Zephyrs.

For the 1957-58 NBA season he was not on the team's roster due to a commitment to military service.

Al is now an avid golfer, and consistently donates his time for the Whitey Herzog Youth Foundation Golf Scramble.

Edmund "Eddie" Irvine, Jr. (born 10 November 1965, Newtownards, County Down) is a former racing driver from Northern Ireland. He grew up in Conlig, County Down, and was influenced by his parents, who were also involved in motor racing. His father, Edmund Sr, and his sister, Sonia (now a physiotherapist), worked with him during his career.

His professional racing career began in 1983 and he progressed to Formula Three racing in 1988, before moving on to Formula 3000 in 1989. He got his break in the top of the Formula racing series after he started racing for Jordan in the Formula 3000 series in 1990, and was subsequently picked up by the Jordan Formula One team in 1993. His reputation steadily increased in Formula One, eventually leading Ferrari to sign him to partner Michael Schumacher in 1996.

1999 was his most successful season; Irvine won four races, taking the Drivers' Championship to the last race in which he finished third. In the overall Championship he finished as runner-up to McLaren driver Mika Häkkinen. He left Ferrari the following year for the new Jaguar Racing team and was the only driver to get Jaguar to the podium in their short F1 history; he achieved this feat twice.
