The Internet Broadway Database (IBDB) is an online database of Broadway theatre productions and their personnel. It is operated by the Research Department of The Broadway League, a trade association for the North American commercial theatre community.

The IBDB provides records of productions from the beginnings of New York theatre in the 18th century up to today. Details include pertinent people involved as well as interesting facts and production statistics.

It was conceived in 1995 by Karen Hauser, head of the Research Department of the League of American Theatres and Producers (now called "The Broadway League").

Annie Golden (born October 19, 1951) is an American actress and singer.

Career[link]

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Golden began her career as the lead singer of The Shirts (which headlined CBGB's in the late seventies).^[1] During the early 1990s she performed as part of the duo Golden Carillo with Frank Carillo. They released three albums,^[2]Fire in Newtown, Toxic Emotion, and Back for More. She then returned to The Shirts. Since then she has performed solo and with a band. She performs a revue of songs from her stage career along with originals called Annie Golden's Velvet Prison.

While with The Shirts she was discovered by Miloš Forman who gave her a part in Hair.^[1] She has had featured roles on Cheers and Miami Vice.

On Broadway, she has appeared in the 1977 revival of Hair, Leader of the Pack, Ah, Wilderness!, On the Town, and The Full Monty . She had the title role in the workshop of the short lived adaptation of Stephen King's novel, Carrie. She also played the role of Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme in Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's musical Assassins Off-Broadway in 1990-1991.^[3] In 2003 she joined other original Off-Broadway cast members in a Reprise! (Los Angeles) concert production of Assassins.^[4] In 2007, she was stand-by for the two comic villain roles in the musical Xanadu on Broadway.^[5] Golden has the distinct honor of having appeared in three separate versions of Hair: a Broadway revival in 1977, the motion picture in 1979 and a special benefit performance concert in 2004.

Golden was the voice of Marina in the Don Bluth film The Pebble and the Penguin. In recent years, she has been seen in commercials for Coinstar, in which she portrays The Tooth Fairy. Annie's trade mark is her over bite.

She appeared in the movie musical Temptation with actors Adam Pascal, Tony Award Winners Alice Ripley and Anika Noni Rose, and film actress Zoe Saldana^[6] and in 2009 had a small role in I Love You Phillip Morris, with actors Ewan McGregor and Jim Carrey, playing a simple woman requiring legal assistance.

Frances White (born 1 November 1938, Leeds)^[1] is a British actress, perhaps best known for her roles as Kate Hamilton in Crossroads and as Miss Flood in the BBC sitcom May to December.

She has also appeared in The Pumpkin Eater; Press for Time; Trevor's World of Sport; Dangerfield; A Very Peculiar Practice; as Cassandra, prophetess of Troy, in the Doctor Who story The Myth Makers; as Julia, daughter of Augustus, Emperor of Rome, in I, Claudius; and as Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, in Prince Regent. She plays Granny Pig on the children's animated series Peppa Pig.

She currently resides in a village just outside the Home Counties dormitory town of Berkhamsted, in the county of Hertfordshire.

Amelia Bingham ca. 1902

Amelia Swilley Bingham (March 20, 1869^[1] – September 1, 1927) was an American actress from Hicksville, Ohio.^[2] Her Broadway career extended from (1896 - 1926).^[1]

Bingham attended Ohio Wesleyan University before marrying Lloyd Bingham. Her father was a Methodist minister who managed a hotel. Her future husband persuaded her father to permit Bingham to go on stage approximately a year before the couple married.

Theatrical career[link]

Her first role in a stage production came on the Pacific Coast. Her New York City debut came at the People's Theatre,^[2] 199 Bowery,^[3] in 1893. Her role was a leading part in a melodrama entitled The Struggle For Life.^[2]

Her first successes in the 1890s included The Power of Gold, The Shaughran, Colleen Bawn, The Village Postmaster, and Captain Impudence. By 1897 she was managed by Charles Frohman and was the leading lady in The White Heather. With Frohman she was featured in The Pink Domino, The Proper Caper, On and Off, At the White Horse Tavern, The Cuckoo, and His Excellency The Governor.

Bingham's popularity as a performer peaked around 1897. She tallied more than 9,000 of 30,000 votes cast in a newspaper competition for the title of American State Queen. Earlier stars like Lillian Russell, Maud Allan, Ada Rehan, and Fannie Davenport received a mere hundred votes each.^[2]

She started the Amelia Bingham Company which produced The Climbers starring Bijou Fernandez.^[4] In accomplishing this feat in 1901, she became America's first female manager. A visit to London, England in 1900 acquainted her with actresses who were their own producers. The Climbers by Clyde Fitch premiered at the Bijou Theatre on January 15, 1901, and had an extended run. Other plays which were staged with her oversight were Lady Margaret, The Modern Magdalen, and The Frisky Mrs. Johnson. Bingham performed and produced Olympe (1904), a Broadway play^[1] in which she later toured with Gilbert Miller.^[5] Bingham acted the lead in Big Moments from Great Plays (1909) and starred with William H. Crane and Douglas Fairbanks Sr. in The New Henrietta, prior to World War I. However illness began to hinder her from working around 1914. In 1918 she appeared in The Man Who Stayed Home.

Her final stage appearance came at the Century Theatre in The Pearl of Great Price.^[2] She depicted Shame in the 1926 production.^[1] Bingham detested having to play the type of woman she portrayed in this production. She commented, for years I have played decent women on the stage. Financial circumstances forced her into accepting the part. The previous year she participated in a revival of Trelawny of the Wells (1925), written by Arthur Wing Pinero.^[2]

Death[link]

Bingham died of heart disease complicated by pneumonia in 1927. She was 58 and her illness lasted eight months. She died in her home at 103 Riverside Drive in New York City, a house formerly owned by Joseph Jefferson. Following breakfast she gazed out on to the Hudson River a final time prior to succumbing. She loved the river and preferred seeing it to looking at the Seine River or any of the European rivers. Her husband, Lloyd Bingham, predeceased her. He died in Kristiania, Norway on a mission of peace for Henry Ford to Scandinavia in 1915.

Bingham resided in the Riverside Drive mansion for a decade after her husband's demise. Passers-by noticed statues and black curtains inside. Its interior also housed gilt-framed mirrors with intricate decorative patterns, clocks, coats of armor, helmets, lances, swords, candelabra, and crucifixes. Many of the items were collected by Lloyd Bingham and some were sold when it was discovered that Bingham's estate amounted to less than $5,000. In 1925 two thieves stole $1,500 in jewelry from the home. Bingham's quick thinking prevented them from noticing a bag which contained $20,000 in jewels.

She was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx after a funeral which took place at the Little Church Around the Corner.^[2]

Christine Ebersole (born February 21, 1953) is an American actress and singer.

Early life[link]

Ebersole was born in Winnetka, Illinois, where she attended New Trier High School. She attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois^[1]and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.^[2]

Career[link]

She met Marc Shaiman when he was 19 and the musical director of her first club act.^[3] She appeared in Ryan's Hope in 1977 and 1980, and was part of the cast of Saturday Night Live in the 1981-1982 season,^[4]acting as Weekend Update co-anchor with Brian Doyle-Murray and at times impersonating Mary Travers, Cheryl Tiegs, Barbara Mandrell, Diana, Princess of Wales, and Rona Barrett. Following SNL, she appeared in One Life to Live and Valerie. She costarred with Barnard Hughes on the sitcom The Cavanaughs, played the title role in the short-lived television series Rachel Gunn, R.N. and has guest-starred on Will & Grace, The Nanny, Dolly!, Just Shoot Me, Murphy Brown, Ally McBeal, Samantha Who, Boston Legal, The Colbert Report, and Royal Pains, among others. She also appeared in the 1993 television movie adaptation of Gypsy starring Bette Midler. Ebersole also appeared in the 2000 ABC-TV movie Mary and Rhoda starring Mary Tyler Moore and Valerie Harper.

In 2011, she had a recurring role on the TV Land sitcom Retired at 35.^[5]

Ebersole's films have included Tootsie (1982), Amadeus (1984), Mac and Me (1988), My Girl 2 (1994), Richie Rich (1994), Black Sheep (1996), 'Til There Was You (1997), and My Favorite Martian (1999).

Ebersole has found considerable success on stage. She was in Going Hollywood, a musical by David Zippel and Jeremy Shaeffer. She was in the chorus in 1983 with Jerry Mitchell. They were both excited about the possibility of going to Broadway, but it never made it.^[3] She also was featured in Paper Moon by Larry Grossman and Ellen Fitzhugh and Carol Hall, which ran at the Paper Mill Playhouse (Millburn, New Jersey) in September 1993.^[6] Off-Broadway she has appeared in Three Sisters and Talking Heads, and her Broadway credits include On the Twentieth Century, the 1979 revival of Oklahoma! (as Ado Annie), the 1980 revival of Camelot and the 2000 revival of Gore Vidal's The Best Man.

In 2001 she appeared in the Broadway revival of 42nd Street as Dorothy Brock, for which she won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical,^[7] She next appeared in the 2002 Broadway revival of Dinner at Eight as Millicent Jordan for which she was nominated for the Tony Award, Featured Actress in a Play.^[8] In 2005 she played M'Lynn in the Broadway production of Steel Magnolias.^[9]

In 2006, Ebersole took the dual roles of Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale ("Big Edie") and Edith Bouvier Beale ("Little Edie") in Grey Gardens, a musical based upon the film of the same name. After a sold-out off-Broadway run, Ebersole remained with the roles when the production moved to Broadway in November 2006, and remained with the show through its closing in July 2007. For this role, she won her second Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical.^[10] She appeared as Elvira in the 2009 Broadway revival of the Noël Coward comedy Blithe Spirit.^[11] In December 2011, for their annual birthday celebration to "The Master", The Noel Coward Society invited Ebersole as the guest celebrity to lay flowers in front of Coward's statue at New York's Gershwin Theatre, thereby commemorating the 112th birthday of Sir Noel.

Ebersole appears in concerts and cabaret engagements at venues such as the Cinegrill and Cafe Carlyle. She won the 2010 Nightlife Award for Outstanding Cabaret Vocalist in a Major Engagement for her 2009 Café Carlyle cabaret.^[12] In 2009 she performed with Michael Feinstein at his club, Feinstein’s at Loews Regency, (New York City) in a cabaret titled "Good Friends".^[13] In 2011 she was one of the performers on the Playbill Cruise in September 2011.^[14] In November 2011 she performs for two sold-out nights at Birdland in New York City with jazz violinist Aaron Weinstein and his trio.^[15]

She also has worked on numerous albums. She was featured on the Bright Lights, Big City concept album.^[3] She also recently released an album of Noel Coward songs after browsing through them for scene change music for Blithe Spirit.^[16]

Personal life[link]

Ebersole has been married twice, to Peter Bergman and to her present spouse Bill Moloney, with whom she has adopted three children, Elijah, Mae Mae, and Aron. She is the aunt of actress Janel Moloney through marriage. She currently lives in Maplewood, New Jersey, with her family.^[17]
