Farlam is a village and civil parish in the City of Carlisle District, in the English county of Cumbria. It is bordered by the small town of Brampton located approximately 3 miles to the north and the City of Carlisle, 5 miles to the west. While the population has fluctuated over time, according to the 2001 UK Census^[update], the population stood at 590: 291 males and 299 females.

The name Farlam is thought to originate from the Old English fearn and ham, the latter meaning village or village community, translating to a 'Ferny-clearing homestead/village' or perhaps, 'hemmed-in land by a ferny clearing'.

Farlam was originally divided into two townships, East Farlam and West Farlam with a combined population in 1811 of 672 inhabitants and 115 houses. Hallbankgate and Kirkhouse where two hamlets located within the township of East Farlam, the former four miles south east of Brampton, and the latter, where the church stands, is half-a-mile east of the village. Milton was a small village in West Farlam 1½ mile south east of Brampton. The whole parish has a high elevation and topographically is quite hilly with an area in 1847 of 5,680 acres.

Anastasia Dobromyslova-Martin (Russian: Анастаси́я Петро́вна Добромы́слова) (born 26 September 1984 in Tver, Russia) is a professional darts player. She is a two-time Women's World Champion of the British Darts Organisation. After winning her first title in 2008, she decided to join the rival, male-dominated, Professional Darts Corporation to play in their World Championship in 2009. After rejoining the BDO in 2011, she won her second World Championship in 2012.

She uses the song "Girls" by Sugababes as her walk-on music. She previously used "Bring Me To Life by Evanescence. She carries the name From Russia With Love, although Dobromyslova has stated herself that it isn't an official nickname. She is more commonly known as just Anastasia due to the complex difficulty upon pronouncing her last name.

Dobromyslova started to play darts at the age of twelve, and has won the Russian National Championship a total of seven times. According to Dobromyslova, it was quite easy because hardly anyone played the game in Russia. She won the Girls' World Masters title in 2001, and won the WDF Europe Youth Cup singles title in 2001 and 2002.

Lorraine Farlam (born 28 October 1975) is an English darts player.

Farlam qualified for the 2011 BDO World Darts Championship, where she lost 0-2 to Irina Armstrong in the quarter-finals. The following year, she went one step further by making it through to the semi-finals where she was narrowly defeated by Deta Hedman in a tie-break final leg decider.

Farlam is not a full-time professional darts player, and works as a beauty therapist. She is in a relationship with fellow darts player Dean Winstanley. Lorraine has 2 children, Josie and Jess, from a previous relationship.

Julie Gore (born 5 August 1958) is a Welsh female darts player.

Gore made her World Championship in 2008, losing in the quarter finals to Trina Gulliver. She later reached the semi finals of the Women's Winmau World Masters, beating Irina Armstrong in the quarter finals before losing to another Russian Anastasia Dobromyslova.

Gore originally entered the 2009 World Championship as the number 4 seed, but following Dobromyslova's defection to the Professional Darts Corporation she was moved up to the number 3 seed. She was drawn against standby qualifier Rilana Erades of The Netherlands in the quarter finals and lost 2-1.

In October 2010 she won her biggest title at the Winmau World Masters beating Francis Hoenselaar 4-1

Deta Hedman (born November 14, 1959) is a Jamaican-born English darts player currently playing in British Darts Organisation events.

Hedman reached the Women's World Masters final for the first time in 1990, losing to Rhian Speed. She won the Women's World Masters in 1994. When she retired from darts in 1997 due to work commitments, she had been Women's World Number 1 since 1994.

Hedman returned to darts in 2002 with the Professional Darts Corporation. She qualified for the UK Open in 2004, and more famously in 2005, when she defeated Aaron Turner and Norman Fletcher before losing to Wayne Atwood in the last 64. Her win over Turner was the first time that a female darts player had beaten a male player in a televised major.

Due to work commitments, Hedman retired again in 2006, but returned to the BDO in 2009. After winning numerous open titles in 2009, she successfully qualified for the BDO Women's World Championship for the first time in 2010. She defeated Irina Armstrong 2-0 in the quarter-finals, but was beaten 2-0 by eventual champion Trina Gulliver in the semi-finals.
