Studio 2 was a daily (weeknights) current affairs newsmagazine on TVOntario in Ontario, Canada. The show won several Gemini Awards, and was hosted by Steve Paikin and Paula Todd (who replaced original co-host Mary Hynes in the show's third season), and first aired in 1994. TVOntario announced the program's termination on June 29, 2006.^[1] The final episode aired on June 30, and was replaced that fall with a new series hosted by Paikin, The Agenda.

Rather than a newscast style, Studio 2 tackled certain current news stories affecting many Canadians with a focus often on Ontario. Regular topics on the show included healthcare, federal politics, provincial politics, terrorism, foreign affairs, the environment, the arts and many others.

The show usually performed a deep analysis, often with open discussions among experts or even interviewing specific figures involved in the issues. Also included were arts and current affairs documentary segments, live performance, and in-depth personal interviews.

Sander van Doorn (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈsɑn.dər vɑn ˈdoːrn]) (born Sander Ketelaars [Dutch pronunciation: [ˈsɑn.dər ˈkeː.tə.ˌlaːrs]] on 28 February 1979 in Eindhoven, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands) is a Dutch Trance music DJ and producer. He is listed at DJMag's top 100 djs list, debuting at #32 in 2006, then moving up to #13 in 2008, being #10 in 2009, down to #12 in 2010, and currently listed as #16 DJ in the world.^[1] Another dance music poll, TranceAddict TOP 250 shows Sander at #4 in their 2011 rankings.^[2]

Sander hosts Identity podcast, which is broadcast as a weekly radio show on Area channel of Sirius XM satellite radio. The show is broadcast every Friday at 8 pm ET and replays every Saturday at 5 pm ET and Wednesdays at 6 pm ET.

The first big achievement in his career was securing residencies at Judgement Sunday in Ibiza and at the Gallery in London. Sander has DJ'ed at many major clubs, parties and venues around the world. In June 2007 he presented one of Eddie Halliwell's shows on BBC Radio One. He also did an essential mix for BBC Radio One in June 2006, the same month he won 'Best New Producer' at the Trance Awards. His productions, both original work and remixes, in 2007-2008 have generally been well received in the electronic music industry. Notable artists he has done remixes for include Robbie Rivera, Matt Darey, Randy Katana, Mode Hookers (Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso), Blank & Jones, TDR, Armin van Buuren.

On 3 March 2008 Sander released his first artist album under the record label Spinnin' Records. The album was titled 'Supernaturalistic'. It is a 13 track album with a variation of tracks with a base in trance but all with their own take on the genre.

March 2008 saw Sander win an award for 'Best Breakthrough DJ' in the International Dance Music Awards at the Miami Winter Music Conference in 2008 (beating the likes of Calvin Harris, Deadmau5 and Axwell). His track "Riff" also received a nomination as the best "Underground Track".^[3]

In the summer of 2010 Sander had residency at the world famous Amnesia nightclub in Ibiza, Spain. On Tuesday of every month Sander was going behind the decks with the likes of such super star DJs as Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz and Gareth Emery.

2010 was a very busy year for Sander both in the studio and on the global dance floor. Sander's "Renegade" track was the official anthem of the biggest trance party in the world - Trance Energy 2010 in the Netherlands, where he played on the Main Stage. He also did the official cd compilation for Trance Energy 2010.

Sander headlined a lot of music festivals with Bal en Blanc 16 in Montreal, Beyond Wonderland in San Bernardino, Electric Zoo in New York and Transmission in Prague just to name a few. A month long tour of North America, which started in April was a great success with the finale "Dusk Till Doorn" show at The Guvernment in Toronto.

In August 2010, Sander released his double cd compilation "Dusk Till Doorn" with big launch party at Avalon nightclub in Las Vegas, where Sander played an extended 5 hours set. Sander already brought his "Dusk Till Doorn" show to many nightclubs around the world and the list keeps on growing.

Just like in 2009, all of Sander's tracks produced in 2010 including "Renegade", "Daisy", "Reach Out", "Hymn 2.0" and "Daddyrock" went to the top of trance chart at Beatport music portal.

2011 has been another mile-stone year for Sander. In between huge headlining gigs at Energy, Mysteryland, EDC and his residency at worldwide Sensation festivals, he released his first true cross-over hits 'Love is darkness' and 'Koko'. Besides that, his Dusk till Doorn compilation got its 2011 version, all of which earned him a Dutch Silver Harp award.

Sonu Kakkar is an Indian playback singer, born as Niti Kakkar, in Rishikesh (then U.P. now in Uttarakhand, India). At the age of five she started singing in jagrans (Hindu devotional gatherings). After some years her family shifted to New Delhi. Then famous Bollywood music director Sandeep Chowta noticed her voice in a contest and the result is "babuji zara dheere chalo".

The most popular dance song of recent times since then she is regular in Bollywood playback singing.

Nusrat fateh ali khan is her inspiration. It was the time time when most of the aspiring female singers were following lata mangeshkar and asha bhosle kind of singing style but she followed the other way of full throated voice. Sandeep chowta counts Sonu as one of his most favourite singers. She has won MTV IMMIES AWARD for her song babuji. At the very young age she has performed with musicians like Virgil Donati, Frank Gambale, Bunny Brunel and Mitch Forman. She has also worked with A R Rahman. Her recent single "Mallika I Hate You" is another superhit as well.

Piyush Mishra (born 1963) is an Indian film and theatre actor, music director, lyricist, singer, scriptwriter.

Early life and education[link]

He spent his early life in Gwalior, where he received his education. Thereafter he moved to Delhi, and joined National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi, graduating in 1986.

Theater and television[link]

After his graduation from NSD in 1986, Piyush Mishra started his career as a theatre actor in Delhi, and in 1990, helped start the theatre group Act One, with founder-director NK Sharma and stage actors like Manoj Bajpai, Gajraj Rao and Ashish Vidyarthi. In the following years he wrote and directed several plays as a part of Act-1 Group, including the acclaimed play, Gagan Damama Bajiyo (The Sky Resounds with the Call to Arms), based on freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, which was first performed in 1994,^[1][2] and upon publishing, sold its first edition in just seven days.^[3] In 1996 he joined Asmita Theatre Group, and performed his Popular one man shows An Evening with Piyush Mishra. He wrote the lyrics for Asmita's popular plays. Piyush acted as Maniac in operation three star (an adaptation of Dario Fo's play Accidental Death of an Anarchist). Piyush is also known for his performance in Swadesh Deepak's Court Martial as Surat Singh, first with Ranjeet Kapoor (1991) and later under the direction of Arvind Gaur (1996).^[4]

By then, he had established himself as a theatre director and directed Comedy of Terror play for Shriram Centre Repertory Company.,^[5] and also presented his solo act play at the National School of Drama's Annual Theatre Festival, Bharat Rang Mahotsav in 1999.^[6] Mishra has also acted in a television series, Rajdhani, directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia for Star TV.

While Mishra was at the NSD, 1986, he was considered for a role in the Sooraj Barjatya film Maine Pyar Kiya which would go on to become a blockbuster, "presumably" that of Prem which was played by Salman Khan. But for some reason, he did not make an effort.^[7]

Mishra made his debut as a film actor with Mani Ratnam's Dil Se.. in 1998,he portrayed as C.B.I Investigation Officer. though he continued to stay in Delhi to pursue theatre. His transition from playwright to screen writer happened when he wrote the dialogues for Rajkumar Santoshi's 2001 film The Legend of Bhagat Singh, which was inspired in part by Mishra's critically acclaimed play on Bhagat Singh - Gagan Damama Bajyo.^[3][8] It won him the Zee Cine Award for Best Dialogue (2003).^[9] Meanwhile he moved to Mumbai in November 2002,^[1] where he went on to establish a career as a film lyricist, screenwriter and as an actor. He started writing lyrics with the film, Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar in 2002, and subsequently wrote for Black Friday, Aaja Nachle and Tashan.

Mishra won accolades for his performance as Kaka in Vishal Bhardwaj's 2003 film Maqbool, an adaptation of William Shakespeare's Macbeth.^[10][11] He wrote his own dialogues for his performance as Hafeez (Huffy) Bhai in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007), and delivered them in poetry style.^[12]

Mishra again appeared in Anurag Kashyap's 2009 movie Gulaal, a movie based on Indian youth, politics, caste-prejudice, and other such social topics. He played Prithvi, the poet brother of Dukey Bana (played by Kay Kay Menon), in the movie. He also wrote the lyrics for the songs in the movie, and sung few of them as well and was also the music director of the film.^[11]

Violetta Villas ( /ˈvɪllæs/; born Czesława Maria Cieślak, June 10, 1938 – December 5, 2011) was a Belgian-born Polish and international cabaret star, singer, actress, composer and songwriter. Her voice was characterized as coloratura soprano. She could play the piano, violin and trombone and had absolute pitch.^[1] She has been nicknamed "the voice of the atomic age",^[2] "the singing toast of the continent",^[3] "a voice like French champagne",^[4] "Polish Yma Sumac". Villas was the first star of the Casino de Paris at Dunes Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas (1966–1971).^[1]

Villas was known for her conspicuous, outstanding appearance and numerous number-one hits on her account. During her career in show business Violetta Villas starred in 6 films, performed in numerous musical shows, and recorded almost 300 songs in 10 languages, including Polish, English, French, German, Italian, Latin, Neapolitan, Russian, Spanish and Portuguese. She was an animal rights activist.

Violetta Villas was a very controversial person for her alcohol^[5] and morphine addiction^[5][6] and being a Security Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs informant^[5][7][8] with a code name Gabriella^[5][9]. Moreover VV had a delusional disorder^[10], which has a bad influence on her contacts with her environment and family^[5].

In 2011 Villas received the For Merits to Culture - Gloria Artis.^[11][12][13]

Violetta Villas was born in Heusy, Liège province, the third of four children. She spent her childhood in Belgium. Her father Boleslaw Cieslak (December 4, 1907–May 9, 1960) was a miner and bandmaster, and her mother Jane (January 26, 1914–February 17, 1985) was a housewife. In 1948 she came with her parents to Poland and settled in Lewin Kłodzki where she began studying music. Young Violetta Villas played the piano and violin.

In 1956 she began studying solo singing at the State Musical High School in Szczecin. She continued her artistic education in Wrocław with a professor Gisela Posh. In 1959 she began classical vocal lessons with a professor Eugenia Falkowska in Warsaw. Her 5-octave vocal range and timbre abilities were significant, worthy of a promising operatic career, but she had decided to pursue more contemporary forms of music, touring and giving vocal performances on stage.

1960-1965: Early career[link]

In 1960 Villas was given her debut on Polskie Radio by its director of music, Władysław Szpilman ^[14]. Her first broadcast songs were Gdy zakwitną czereśnie and Ja nie mogę tamtej drugiej znieść. She recorded her first album, "Rendez-vous with Violetta Villas" in 1962. She received her first noteworthy prize at the Sopot Festival in 1961 and 1962. In 1964, 1965 and 1966 she performed at National Festival of Polish Song in Opole.

In the early 1960s Violetta Villas toured many countries in Europe, including Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Russia, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria and Romania, also in United States, Canada and Israel.

In 1964 at the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole she was approached by Bruno Coquatrix, who invited her to France. At the 3rd Festival International des Variétés et Music-Halls in Rennes, Villas received her Grand Prix International d'Interpretation (she sang including Ave Maria). In 1965 she performed at Fontaine Theatre (show Roue de la Chance, director - André Chanu). In 1966, at a personal request of Bruno Cocquatrix, Villas appeared in the Grand Music Hall de Varsovie, revue program at Olympia. The premiere was July 26, 1966. Violetta Villas sang including Ave Maria no Morro and Hiroshima Mon Amour. In Paris she was approached by Frederic Apcar, who invited her to Las Vegas.

1966-1971: Las Vegas and Casino de Paris[link]

In December 1966 Villas was the star of the Casino de Paris at Dunes Hotel & Casino, where she sang songs, operettas and operatic arias in nine languages. In her first program she sang including Under Paris Skies, Granada, O Sole Mio, Strangers in the Night and Libiamo ne' lieti calici. Violetta Villas sang in duets with Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Barbra Streisand, Charles Aznavour, Sammy Davis, Jr., Eartha Kitt, Dean Martin.^[1]

Her personal stylist was Patrick Valette, a Frenchman from fashion house Dior. She performed her show with 100-personnel French ballet. She lived in a villa with private swimming pool.^[1] In late 60s Villas recorded 20 songs for an American Television and Capitol Records. In March 1968 began a screen test for MGM film studio, where she was later signed to a movie contract. She acted in films including: the musical "Paint your wagon" with Lee Marvin and the western "Heaven with a gun" with Glenn Ford.^{[citation needed]}

1971-1987: Isolation and great comeback[link]

Villas was offered a lucrative 8-year contract with Paramount Pictures but turned it down because of her mother's illness which saw her to return to Poland.^[1] Later in the 1970s Violetta Villas had to return to Poland to her dying mother. Authorities of the Communist regime confiscated her passport, and she was forced to stay in Poland for more than a decade. However, she was not completely banned from the media and was able to pursue her career locally. In 1985 she had her great comeback, just a few years after martial law ended. The performances were sold out even weeks beforehand. Authorities returned her passport, and she resumed her international career. She later toured the USA and Australia.

In 1987 she went to the tour, "Violetta" after the United States and Canada. The premiere was September 14 at Carnegie Hall, where she received a standing ovation. In New York her concert was sold out. Villas performed in Las Vegas, Denver, Miami, Texas, Montreal and Chicago too.

Personal life[link]

In 1954, when she was 16, Villas married lieutenant Gospodarek but they divorced just two years later in September 1956. Her parents had pressured her into the marriage but she did not truly love him.^[15] She left her husband to study music in Szczecin. They had one child, Krzysztof Gospodarek.

In 1987 she met an American businessman and millionaire of Polish descent, Ted Kowalczyk, and married him on January 6, 1988 in Chicago. The wedding ceremony was held at a banquet room of the "Orbit" Restaurant. They divorced in December 1988. He gave many interviews in the media about their marriage, but she said on a TV show "I made an error, that I believed so fast."^[16]

Villas died on 5 December 2011 in Lewin Kłodzki at the age of 73^[17].

Voice characteristics[link]

Violetta Villas was a soprano whose voice had an extraordinary register and a very wide range of vocal color.^[18] It covered five octaves from the baritone middle E2 to the soprano E7. Villas' best range was from C4 to C6. In her songs she showed a remarkable ability for naturally assimilative styles and for eliciting a multiplicity of voices. Villas could perform as a baritone, tenor, contralto, mezzo-soprano, and as a soprano, a unique attribute amongst singers of any gender, in the fields of both classical and popular music.

Theatre[link]

Before Villas started her theatre career in Poland, she performed in international revue shows in France and United States. In 1978 she played at the Grand Theatre in Łódź in the musical show Kochajmy się. In the 1970s/80s Villas was a star of the Siren Theatre in Warsaw. Villas played several roles in her theatre career, including Lygia in The third programme (Trzeci program, 1978) and the main role in the revue Violetta (1986–1988). In 1986 she returned to theatre, performing in Violetta, a with an orchestra and ballet.^[1] Singer was a star of the Syrena to late 1980s. After 1988 she never performed at this theatre.^{[citation needed]}

In 1992, Villas played in the musical Hello, Dolly! at Cracow Operetta House. In 90s she performed at Warsaw Operetta House in her author's programme, The Violetta Villas Show.
