"Straight to the Bank" is the first single from 50 Cent's third album, Curtis. The song is produced by Ty Fyffe, with additional production from Dr. Dre.Tony Yayo contributes with a laughing effect in the chorus. This stuttered laughing effect was then later copied by Lupe Fiasco on his song, The Coolest, from Lupe Fiasco's The Cool.

Background

Six days after the song was leaked on the Internet, it debuted at number 48 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and peaked at number 30 weeks later. "Straight to the Bank" debuted at #32 on the Billboard Hot 100 on the week of May 26, 2007. It remained on the chart for 3 weeks, before falling off. 50 Cent performed the song live for the first time at the highly touted WBC Super Welterweight Championship fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya on May 5, 2007, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, while leading Mayweather's entourage into the ring. At its highest, "Straight to the Bank" hit number 3 on the iTunes single chart; however, due to the Curtis album being delayed, the song was removed from the iTunes library.

Curtis (50 Cent album)

Curtis is the third studio album by American rapper 50 Cent; it was released on September 11, 2007, by Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records. The album features production from Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Timbaland, among others. Music writers have noted that 50 Cent divides between "hard" and "soft" songs on the album.

Curtis received generally mixed reviews from music critics upon release. The album debuted at number 2 on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 691,000 copies in its first week. After years of slumping sales, the album's competition with Kanye West's Graduation (2007) and the resulting record breaking performances both albums displayed was considered to be a "great day for hip hop."

Background

Initially, 50 Cent's 2007 album which was planned to be Before I Self Destruct. However, he decided to push back its release date to 2008, and instead to release Curtis in 2007. The album's title was changed twice. For the first time, it was changed from "Curtis" to "Curtis S.S.K.". The second time, the title of the album was changed back from "Curtis S.S.K." to "Curtis". The "S.S.K.", which stood for "SoundScan Killer", was intended to show the pressure 50 Cent felt to succeed. The "S.S.K." also stands for "SouthSide King" and "Shoot, Stab, Kill". 50 Cent stated that the album was inspired by his life before his commercial debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin'. He also stated that he chose the album's title because he was known as "Curtis" before he became famous. In January 2007, DJ Whoo Kid predicted the album to be a double disc LP, with one CD having a "crazy club-bangin' ridiculous" theme and the other having a "hard-core killer sh--," theme. However this did not materialize.

The Bank was Charlie Chaplin's tenth film for Essanay Films.

Released in 1915, it is a departure from the tramp character, as Charlie Chaplin plays a janitor at a bank. Edna Purviance plays the secretary on whom Charlie has a crush and dreams that she has fallen in love with him. Filmed at the Majestic Studio in Los Angeles. Silent. There doesn't appear to be any evidence that this film was received any differently from the bulk of Chaplin's early work, but today this film is often considered one of his most fascinating efforts.

Reviews of the film were mixed. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes scored The Bank at 65% from 36 professional reviews (average rating 5.8/10), but 45% from 11 "top critic" reviews (average rating 5.5/10). Australian film review site Urban Cinefile's three reviewers summarized the film as "favourable". The New York Times concluded "As far-fetched as the movie is ... conveys an engaging zest for upper-crust mischief. The two stories come together in the hurtling final lap as Wayne confronts Simon in his country house while Jim puts his perfected program into operation. The upshot is a whopper of an ending that is as silly as it is satisfying." The New York Post gave the film 1.5/4 stars, stating "Despite a crafty premise and a clever kink in the tale that almost saves it, Connolly isn't dexterous enough to achieve the Hitchockian level of suspense the movie needs." The Los Angeles Times stated "Connolly might well have constructed a brisker, more exciting picture with more vivid and involving characters. As it is, the film takes too long to become truly compelling."
