Editor - Rod Case
Although born and bred in Merbein, Bendigo has been 'home' for most of my working life. The Bendigo Advertiser has provided many wonderful memories and career opportunities. I'm enormously proud of the Addy and the role the newspaper plays in serving and helping this great community. A big thank you to all the Addy's loyal readers and supporters. Away from work life is about family, travel, coffee and, yes, still those Bombers!

Nicole’s media career started at the Addy 20 years ago. She has since worked in various newsrooms from Melbourne to Central Australia, but returned to Bendigo to raise her children. She has received significant industry acknowledgement, including the 2013 best print news report at the Elimination of Violence Against Women awards. Nicole believes newspapers play a vital role in giving a voice to those who are silenced. She has a passion for ‘people’ stories and getting to the heart of social justice issues, but is also known for being a determined newshound and breaking hard news. At the end of a busy news day, Nicole loves nothing more than retreating to her own habitat and spending time with her children.

Chief of Staff - Ashley Fritsch
Ashley joined the Addy in 2011 after harassing staff in different departments for a job. She lived life as a nocturnal subeditor for 18 months before taking on the role of Chief of Staff. Growing up on a farm in the Wimmera-Mallee, Ashley still calls herself a country girl, despite moving to Bendigo a few years ago. She got her start in the industry at a small family-owned newspaper, and has loved newspapers ever since. At work Ashley loves hearing about stories of any kind - whether they are breaking news or just about the local school fete. She also loves sharing her chocolate addiction with the rest of her colleagues. Outside of work Ashley spends her time with her two "children" (a fox terrier and a retriever) and trying not to be a bridezilla (with an impending wedding to plan).

News Director - Georgina Howden-Chitty
As one of the Addy’s two News Directors, Georgina is working at the heart of digital and print production. She is responsible for co-ordinating the flow of editorial content and ensuring the newsroom meets rolling deadlines.She is also enjoying evaluating copy and coaching journalists to help improve the standard of our work. Georgina moved to Bendigo to work at the Addy in May, 2013. She is originally from Mornington but has lived in Melbourne, Geelong, Colac and Adelaide. She has worked as a print journalist, chief of staff and as a science media officer.

City of Greater Bendigo, Macedon Ranges Shire - Emma Schenk
Emma Schenk devours words like popcorn and is passionate about the community and sharing people's stories. She has been a journalist for three years, covering regional issues at the Hamilton Spectator and now at the Bendigo Advertiser. She has covered a wide-range of issues, from court, council, to social justice, politics, health, and police. She moved to Bendigo eight months ago and has since moved to Kyneton to live with her fiance and grow daffodils in her garden. Emma is a proud regional girl from Torquay, and loves immersing herself in the issues that matter to local people. She will cover the City of Greater Bendigo round, and always loves hearing from people with a story to share. Outside the office, Emma loves picnics in the sun, poetry, and exploring the region.

Local sport - football, cricket, lawn bowls - Luke West
Luke joined the Bendigo Advertiser in February, 2002, after studying journalism at Deaking University, Geelong. Luke a country boy having grown up in the small Goulburn Valley town of Stanhope. Having covered council, country and general news, Luke has been reporting on local sport in Bendigo since 2004 and has a passion for not only what's happening on the field, pitch or court in Bendigo today, but the city's sporting history. Away from work, Luke enjoys playing guitar, listening to rock music, particularly AC/DC, following AFL team Essendon, NBA team Chicago Bulls, the WWE and bowling seam-up dibbly dobs in the odd game of cricket.

Education, youth and schools and Shire of Campaspe - Maddie Wines
Maddie joined the Bendigo Advertiser in November 2012. She grew up on the banks of the Murray River in Echuca and at the completion of secondary school moved to Melbourne to study journalism. Her interest in journalism was born out of a love of writing and an interest in people. As the education reporter she has a keen interest in youth and schools and is passionate about exploring the issues that affect young people. From cyber bullying to preps starting their first day at school, Maddie is determined to cover every aspect of education in the community. Outside of the newsroom Maddie plays netball, spends time with her family and loves to travel. She is a social media junkie and her dream job is to be a social media manager at a lifestyle magazine.

Creative Writer - John Holton
John is a freelance writer, editor and publisher who has written for a range of local and national publications. He is the author of a dozen publications, including fiction and non-fiction titles and in 2009 compiled and edited Raining Embers: Bendigo's Black Saturday Experience. The following year he co-wrote Mixed Cases: Stories of the Bendigo Winegrowers with former Bendigo Advertiser writer Lauren Mitchell. His short fiction and poetry have won national awards, including his first published collection, Snowdropping, which was runner-up in the 2001 Queensland Premiers Literary Awards. His short story Hemingway's Elephants was published in Best Australian Stories 2007. John writes the weekly column Between Here and Home, which appears every Tuesday in the Bendigo Advertiser.

Women in Sport - Raelee Tuckerman
Raelee was born and raised in Bendigo and began writing sports contributions for the Advertiser while still a teenager. She moved to Melbourne after completing VCE and spent 16 years at the Herald Sun as a reporter and sub-editor, before returning "home" with her husband and two children in tow and joining the Bendigo Advertiser team in 2004. With a life-long passion for sport, Raelee helps raise the profile of local female athletes, coaches and administrators from a wide range of disciplines by celebrating their achievements and telling the stories behind their success. Away from work, she enjoys orienteering, netball, following the fortunes of the Western Bulldogs and ferrying her busy kids between their various school and sporting commitments.

Police - Eloise Johnstone
From Melbourne, Eloise has been at the Bendigo Advertiser since July 2012, achieving a lifelong aim of working at a daily newspaper. She previously worked at a small weekly newspaper on the north west coast of Tasmania in one of the windiest places in the world. Eloise has embraced Bendigo and loves the regional lifestyle. Her focus at the Advertiser will be on crime in the community. She also has a weekly column “Time Out”, where she can divulge her passion for all things sport, in particular the trials and tribulations of being a St Kilda Football Club supporter. Outside of observing sport, Eloise loves Uno, history books, picnicking, Donkey Kong Country, and playing netball with her fellow Addy teammates in their team "The Press Gang".

Editorial graphic journalist - Aaron Stewart
Aaron is one of the longest standing members of staff at the Bendigo Advertiser, starting in the production department 15 years ago. He moved to the editorial side of the paper the day of 9/11 hit and it has left an indelible memory of that week. Aaron says he feels like a part of the furniture now. The Bendigo Advertiser children’s page character Kooka is another of Aaron’s roles. He visits a local school weekly, and the crowds that come to see him in his iconic kookaburra outfit are getting bigger and bigger. In his spare time, and there’s not much with two growing boys, Aaron plays golf and tennis and barracks for Carlton when they are winning. When asked his golfing handicap Aaron says ‘my slice’.

Country, general - Dorothy Cook
Dorothy grew up on a farm and has worked as a newspaper journalist covering a wide range of issues for more than 25 years, including as a rural and regional reporter in WA and as a sub-editor at The Age. She lives near Castlemaine with her large German Shepherd and is a passionate advocate of community journalism. Her interests include politics, rural, and social justice issues.

Sport - Travis King
Travis joined the Bendigo Advertiser in October 2011 when he realised it was time to stop chasing the sun and settle into a career. Travis graduated with a journalism degree from Curtin University in Perth in 2007 and then decided it was time to leave the world’s most isolated city and explore. After several years playing cricket in the UK and backpacking through Europe he relocated to Victoria – sating his desire for world-class sport and lots of it. Since living in Bendigo, Travis has been swept up in local sport and has even bought into the fierce rivalry with Ballarat.

Sport - Nathan Dole
Nathan started work at the Bendigo Advertiser in 1986 in classifieds as a front-counter clerk. Other roles have included copy control and layout clerk. Nathan joined the editorial team in the early 90s and has mainly worked with the sports team as a reporter and sub-editor. Born and raised in Bendigo, Nathan's interests away from the office include spending time with farmily and friends, music and reading.

Junior Sport and Central Goldfields Shire - Kristen Alebakis
Since Primary school Kristen has always aspired to be a journalist. Last February her dream became a reality when she began working at the Bendigo Advertiser. Kristen grew up in Melbourne, living and breathing sport. Since moving to Bendigo, Kristen has enjoyed exploring what the city and central Victoria have to offer. She relishes the thrill of chasing a story and also listening to people’s stories. Her focus at the Addy is junior sport and the central goldfields shire. Known as “Magpie” around the Addy office, Kristen is a one-eyed Collingwood supporter. (Go Pies) She enjoys watching, talking and playing sport, including playing netball with her Addy colleagues every week. Outside of the newsroom, Kristen likes to shop, go out with friends and explore this great country and the world.

Chief Photographer - Peter Weaving
Peter joined the Addy early 2011 after an absence from Bendigo of 30 years. A classic case of tree change brought him back to Central Victoria after working in Melbourne as a newspaper photographer at The Melbourne Times. People say he is a newcomer to town but in the 70's he was the photographer for The Golden City Gazette in Bendigo. Starting his newspaper love affair earlier at the Swan Hill Guardian.

Jim has been working for the Bendigo Advertiser for over 3 years. He moved to Bendigo from the south east suburbs of Melbourne in 2008 to attend La Trobe University. Josh joined the Bendigo Advertiser in 2011 after working in online news for Leader Newspapers in suburban Melbourne. Prior to moving to Bendigo he was editor of RMIT’s Catalyst student magazine. He has a keen interest in law and order and a passion for social justice. In the transport sphere he is curious about the way Bendigo is evolving to meet demand for its growing population. He also shows a strong tendency to sample local wines and attend wine tasting events.

Health, social welfare and the New Bendigo Hospital project - Hannah Knight
Hannah joined the Bendigo Advertiser in late 2012. She grew up on a dried fruit property in Mildura before moving to Geelong to complete her journalism studies at Deakin University. Hannah returned to Mildura after obtaining her degree and worked at the Sunraysia Daily newspaper for five years before moving to Bendigo to further her career at the Bendigo Advertiser. She is passionate all things health, mental health and about giving a voice to people within our community.

Entertainment - Chris Pedler
Chris arrived at the Bendigo Advertiser in late 2009 after a two-year stint at the Ballarat Courier. This self-confessed nerd has a great passion and knowledge for film and trivia as well as being supportive of the Bendigo live music scene He loves to be creative with his articles and relishes a great feature story. Outside of the newspaper world Chris plays golf and, regardless of the result, loves watch St Kilda play in the AFL. He has also likes the theatre and has tread the boards with the Bendigo Theatre Company and worked with Baldrick himself, Tony Robinson. Secretly, he is a big fan of the Harry Potter books.

Blair has worked at the Advertiser as a journalist and occasional photographer for about a year, having moved from Albury. He has been a journalist for four years and moved from the Mornington Peninsula to pursue his career. His work interests are diverse.
