Film: Aavishkar--Babul Mora-- Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh (1974)
Lyrics: Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Awadh (ruled from 1847-1856)
Music Direction: Kanu Roy
Singer(s): Jagjit and Chitra Singh
Director: Basu Bhattacharya
Actors: Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila Tagore
It is stated that the Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, the last Nawab of Awadh, wrote this Thumari, "Babul mora naihar chhooto hi jaye" in 1856, while he was being sent to exile in Metiabruz [because of an Earthen Dome (raised platform), people called it "Matiya Burj"] along the banks of the River Hooghly 3 or 4 miles south of Kolkata. He expressed his pain of parting in his lyric-'Babul mora naihar chhuto jaye', which was indeed a soulful depiction of the agony of his heart.
