The Institute of Engineering and Technology Lucknow (IET ) is a state government-funded engineering college in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is a constituent college of Gautam Buddh Technical University (erstwhile Uttar Pradesh Technical University).

The IET was established by the government of Uttar Pradesh in 1984, for imparting technical education. The institute is fully financed by Uttar Pradesh Government and is being administered by the Executive Committee of Gautam Buddh Technical University.

The institute is fully residential. The institute was formerly affiliated to the University of Lucknow, but since 2000 is affiliated with Uttar Pradesh Technical University and recognised by AICTE. The institute has been a constituent college of Gautam Buddh Technical University since 2010.

IET Lucknow, started in November 1984, began with the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Lucknow University. Initially, it offered a B.Tech degree in three branches - Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics. Within a year, two more branches - Civil and Mechanical - were introduced. The campus was constructed by Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd (UPRNN) on an 100-acre (0.40 km²) plot purchased from the Lucknow Development Authority. UPRNN constructed a substation, academic block, two boys’ hostels, two girls’ hostel and nearly 70 residences. LDA provided its support for construction of external roads, electric supply, drainage and sewage.

Institute of Engineering (IOE) is one of 5 technical institutes [1] under Tribhuvan University (TU) and is governing body for engineering and architecture education under the umbrella of TU. Established in 1972, IOE is Nepal's oldest and the widest engineering education consortium. IOE provides Diploma, Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. degrees in engineering and architecture education through its constituent campuses and several private colleges affiliated to it.

History of engineering education in Nepal can be traced since 1930, when Technical Training School was established. Engineering section of the school offered only trades and civil sub-overseers programs. In 1959, Nepal Engineering Institute, with the assistance of the government of India, started offering civil overseer courses leading to Diploma in Civil Engineering. The Technical Training Institute established in 1965, with the assistance from the Government of Federal Republic of Germany, offered technician courses in General courses in General Mechanics, Auto Mechanics, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Drafting.

Adi Shankara (Sanskrit: आदिशङ्करः Ādi Śaṅkara, pronounced [aːd̪i ɕəŋkəɾə]) (788 CE - 820 CE), also known as Śaṅkara Bhagavatpādācārya and Ādi Śaṅkarācārya was an Indian sage from Kalady in present day Kerala who consolidated the doctrine of advaita vedānta. His teachings are based on the unity of the ātman and brahman— non-dual brahman, in which brahman is viewed as nirguna brahman, brahman without attributes.

Shankara travelled across the Indian subcontinent to propagate his philosophy through discourses and debates with other thinkers. He is reputed to have founded four mathas ("monasteries"), which helped in the historical development, revival and spread of Advaita Vedanta of which he is known as the greatest revivalist. Adi Shankara is believed to be the organizer of the Dashanami monastic order and the founder of the Shanmata tradition of worship.

His works in Sanskrit concern themselves with establishing the doctrine of advaita (nondualism). He also established the importance of monastic life as sanctioned in the Upanishads and Brahma Sutra, in a time when the Mimamsa school established strict ritualism and ridiculed monasticism. Shankara represented his works as elaborating on ideas found in the Upanishads, and he wrote copious commentaries on the Vedic canon (Brahma Sutra, principal upanishads and Bhagavad Gita) in support of his thesis. The main opponent in his work is the Mimamsa school of thought, though he also offers arguments against the views of some other schools like Samkhya and certain schools of Buddhism.
