Southern Interior of British Columbia, Canada.
The area around the town Osoyoos is Canada's only desert although much of the landscape today is changed with agriculture (orchards, farms and vineyards) and tourism/retirement trying to invigorate the economy.

Nature is incredible, from beautiful scenery to spectacular vibrant colors at different seasons and the variety of life that never stops amazing with their unique features. At 10 percent of Canada's land surface, BC's landmass is immense, containing a large stretch of temperate rain forest along its Pacific coast. Some of the wettest places in North America are within the province—earning BC the nickname the "wet coast."
For the past decade, the province, including the rainforest, has been affected by the mild winters and drought-like conditions, which culminate in uncharacteristically long lasting fire seasons. This year has been the driest since 1893, when records started, which has lead to more and longer lasting wildfires. Experts are calling the province as a whole the canary in the coal mine.
During the peak wildfire season, hundreds of new fires were being reported every day, and the province struggled to get both the human and financial resources to keep up.
VICE heads to Oliver in the BC's interior to embed with fire crews and Boulder Creek in the coastal BC to look at how the wildfires have affected the fragile BC ecosystem—everything from air quality to the salmon migration have been touched. We talk to firefighters on the ground and in the air, trek through charred forests with environmental scientists, and discuss connections to the climate change with BC's climate experts and hear from activist David Suzuki who tells us "we don't even know enough to know if it's too late."

British Columbia Full Segment From the Bucket List Movie
Bjorn Leines called up buddies Tyler Nicholson and Chris Grenier and invited them to set up camp in the interior of BC for the fifth full segment from the Bucket List movie. After launching the RV out of SLC, they drove over 1,000 miles to BC, where they ended up with some weather that didn't want to fully cooperate. Such is the nature of finding the best terrain, as it's often a waiting game more than anything else. Down days lead to trying really hard to stay occupied, but when you've got a bunch of guns, snowmobiles, and a couple buddies, it's not so bad. All in all, the boys scored a few really solid days and rode some insane terrain.

Travel video about destination Vancouver in Canada.
Vancouver is the third largest city in Canada and one of the most beautiful on the American continent, a dynamic metropolis set in a beautiful location with a temperate climate throughout the year.
Close to the harbor area, the city's skyscrapers have proliferated in recent years. The capital of the southwestern province of British Columbia has developed into an economic centre of renown.
The city's oldest buildings were built less than 100 years ago because the former wooden houses of old Vancouver were destroyed by fire. Several buildings reflect the origin of their inhabitants and are similar to those in the United States and Europe.
Inspired by the Colosseum in Rome, an elegant structure of pink stone and glass, Canada Place, is located in the busy centre of the new harbor district and is also the city's most recent landmark. Close by is Harbor Centre, a modern skyscraper complex with a shopping centre and a Skylift to the top floor. A glass elevator transports visitors to a 167-metre high observation platform where the view across the city, harbor and bay is overwhelming.
The exciting Skytrain is the city's most popular means of transport, an ultra-modern train built on posts that zig zags its way through the city. Each of the city's most important destinations are easily accessible and it has reduced the city's traffic problems considerably.
For the World Exhibition of 1986, on the edge of Chinatown, gardeners and craftsmen from Suzhou, China established Canada's first classical Chinese garden, the Doctor Sun Yat Sen Garden. Its ponds, bridges and small pavilions are similar to those in China, masterpieces of Far Eastern garden design.
Everything in Vancouver is youthful, attractive and dynamic, a place in which Canadian politeness unites with the Pacific way of life!

Welcome to Toronto, the largest city in Canada and a hub of trade and culture.
“The City That Works” is full of a can-do spirit that is reflected in its buildings. From the famous CN Tower to the castle-like Casa Loma, there’s all sorts of eye candy for the architecture enthusiast. Your Toronto tour should include a trip to Edward Gardens in Hyde Park, or one of the many other green spaces located in the city. Take a bike ride along the trails, or enjoy a picnic while the local chipmunks look on. Don’t drop anything; they’ll grab it.
Your Toronto sightseeing can continue at the Harborfront Center. Go for a walk along the marina, or grab a pint at a brewhouse. And no trip to Toronto is complete without a visit to the Hockey Hall of Fame, so make sure you’ve got your team paraphernalia in order before you venture inside. Looking for shopping? You’ll find the Underground City and Kensington Market ready to welcome you and your credit card – or several credit cards, as the case may be. After a day of madcap purchasing, why not stock up on fresh, healthy food at the St. Lawrence Market? You’ll have worked up quite an appetite for delicious local produce.
Before you leave, head to Niagara Falls and take in the spectacle of nature’s power. You’ll never forget the sight and sound of all that water pouring over the falls, nor will you ever forget your trip to Toronto.

Columbia Lake is the primary lake at the headwaters of the Columbia River, in British Columbia, Canada. It is fed by several small tributaries. The village of Canal Flats is located at the south end of the lake.
Columbia Lake is a fresh water lake located along Highway 93 and 95, between the centres of Canal Flats and Fairmont Hot Springs in British Columbia, Canada.[2] Its average July temperature of 18°C makes it the largest warm water lake in the East Kootenay. It has a typical depth of 15 feet with excellent water clarity as it enjoys a much smaller volume of boat traffic than its northern neighbour, Windermere Lake.
The Kootenay River, a major tributary of the Columbia, passes within a few thousand feet of the south end of the lake. In freshets the Kootenay, here already a large stream, sometimes overflows into Columbia Lake, and historically the Baillie-Grohman Canal connected the two bodies of water to facilitate the navigation of steamboats (although only three trips were ever made through it).

True Paradise- Gulf Islands, British Columbia, Canada
British Columbia’s beautiful Gulf Islands are one of Canada and the world’s biggest tourist destinations. With excellent sports and recreation including boating, hiking, cycling and diving, this year round paradise offers the outdoor adventurer numerous options. Good restaurants and a vast array of arts and crafts add to the mix. Year round festivals and farmer’s markets are found throughout the region.
Made up of over a dozen large islands, the Southern Gulf Islands are interspersed with a multitude of islets too numerous to count. Every island has its’ own unique flavour with Salt Spring Island, the most heavily populated having a rural landscape with a bustling arts and local food community while others like Saturna Island and Thetis Island being less densely populated retreats away from the bustle of civilization. This special west coast Gulf Islands paradise of Canada is a small taste of the Mediterranean, blended with a uniquely Canadian flavour.
The BC Gulf Islands enjoy less than 30 inches of rain per year, highlighted by long dry summers and mild winters. Lying southwest of the Strait of Georgia and north of the US San Juan Islands and along the coast of Vancouver Island between Campbell River to the north and Victoria to the south, this necklace of islands is surrounded by sheltered waters, strong tides, and dramatic coastlines.
The Gulf Islands Guide brings alive the diversity and culture of British Columbia’s beautiful Gulf Island paradise.

It is on the shores of Shuswap Lake, where the Salmon River empties into the Salmon Arm reach of the Lake. It is a tourist town in the summer, with many beaches, as well as camping facilities and house boat rentals. Salmon Arm is home to the longest wooden wharf in North America.[2] It is the location of the head offices of the Columbia-Shuswap Regional District. Salmon Arm became a city on May 15, 1905, and in 2005, its 100th anniversary of incorporation was commemorated with a minted coin worth C$3 local value. Directly north of the city, across Shuswap Lake, lies Mount Bastion.
The wooden wharf in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, facing south (May 2013).
The largest employer in the Salmon Arm area is the forest industry and related businesses; however, due to economic conditions, the former Federated Co-Op sawmill has been out of operation since 2008, although the co-located plywood production facility has generally remained operational. The plywood plant is now owned by Gorman Bros. Lumber Lrd. The city benefits from access to the mainline of the Canadian Pacific Railway, which passes through the city.
Tourism is also important to Salmon Arm, bringing many tourists from Vancouver, Calgary and Asia. Most tourists arrive during the summer season, either stopping en route to other holiday destinations, or to visit Shuswap Lake, often via rental houseboats and which has recreation residential communities and campgrounds all around its shores. Salmon Arm has several hotels, campsites and houseboat rental outlets.
Relative to its size, Salmon Arm has a wide variety of restaurants and cultural attractions. Public beaches at Sunnybrae and Canoe are often crowded during the summer.

A tour of BC Ferries' Spirit of British Columbia. Built in Victoria in 1993, she was the largest ship built at the time in British Columbia as well as, the largest vessel in the BC Ferries fleet. For many years, she and her sister-ship, the Spirit of Vancouver Island were also the largest car ferries in Canada. Though officially built in Victoria, modules of the vessel were also constructed at shipyards in Vancouver. Her hull was constructed both at Yarrows Ltd. in Esquimalt (stern) and Allied Shipyards in North Vancouver (bow) after the Hull was pieced together in Esquimalt, she was then moved to the Fraser Surrey Docks where the modules for her superstructure were pieced together. After this, she was brought back to Esquimalt to be completed. This elaborate modular construction earned her the nickname, "Queen of Lego." The Spirit of British Columbia was also the first BC Ferry in 30 years to be christened without 'Queen' as part of her name. She then took charge of Route 1 between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay in the Spring of 1993. Being the largest vessel built to date, modifications had to be made at both Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay to accommodate the new super-ferry. Berth 5 at Tsawwassen, and Berth 1 at Swartz Bay had to be rebuilt as a result of this. Also, due to their size, the SOBC and SoVI are only suited for service on Route 1 as their capacity would be overkill on the other major routes, so they will likely serve Route 1 exclusively for their entire service life. Since entering service, the SoBC has not been involved in any major incidents, however, she's had a number of minor incidents over the years such as a passenger jumping off the vessel in 2005 and her anchor releasing suddenly in 2009. In 2005, the Spirit of British Columbia underwent a 14 million dollar upgrade, which saw her entire interior gutted and redesigned throughout. Among the changes were a redesigned Pacific Buffet, the Cafeteria and Snack Bar rebranded as the Coastal Cafe and Coast Cafe Express, an expanded Passages Gift Shop, a redone children's play area, and an improved pets area. The most notable of these changes was the new SeaWest Lounge, the first premium lounge in the fleet. The Spirit of Vancouver Island received the same improvements the following year. Now nearing the halfway point of their service life, the Spirit Class vessels are due to undergo Mid-Life Upgrades which will see new safety equipment, mechanical upgrades, and a redone interior. Most notably, the two vessels will be re-engined with dual-fuel engines which can run on liquified natural gas as well as conventional diesel fuel. The Mid-Life Upgrade to the Spirit of British Columbia is planned to be done between the Fall of 2017 and the Spring 2018.

A volcano is a rupture on the crust of a planetary mass object, such as the Earth, which allows hot lava, volcanic ash, and gases to escape from a magma chamber below the surface.
Earth's volcanoes occur because the planet's crust is broken into 17 major, rigid tectonic plates that float on a hotter, softer layer in the Earth's mantle. Therefore, on Earth, volcanoes are generally found where tectonic plates are diverging or converging. For example, a mid-oceanic ridge, such as the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, has volcanoes caused by divergent tectonic plates pulling apart; the Pacific Ring of Fire has volcanoes caused by convergent tectonic plates coming together. Volcanoes can also form where there is stretching and thinning of the crust's interior plates, e.g., in the East African Rift and the Wells Gray-Clearwater volcanic field and Rio Grande Rift in North America. This type of volcanism falls under the umbrella of "plate hypothesis" volcanism. Volcanism away from plate boundaries has also been explained as mantle plumes. These so-called "hotspots", for example Hawaii, are postulated to arise from upwelling diapirs with magma from the core–mantle boundary, 3,000 km deep in the Earth. Volcanoes are usually not created where two tectonic plates slide past one another.

My passion for woodworking and design began at a an early age. I have always loved using my hands to build and create inspirational pieces. Upon completing high school, I trained as a apprentice and earned my Red Seal Certificate in Joinery. Completing this training gave me the necessary tools and education to understand how to build and construct furniture and millwork, however I quickly realized I was still lacking the design skills I knew would play an important role in my career. I enrolled in the Interior Design program at B.C.I.T. and earned my Diploma in Interior Design. Equipped with the education and training of these two disciplines I now combine my love for wood and design to help co-create furniture and millwork to suit your lifestyle needs.

October 10, 2014: Dr. Ken Brealey, Dept. of Geography, University Fraser Valley
Abstract: On July 11 2014, the Supreme Court of Canada (SCC) ruled that the Tsilhqot'in First Nation in the central interior plateau of British Columbia met the test for a declaration of Aboriginal title over some 1700 square kilometres of its traditional territory. The significance of the decision was not only that it was the first such declaration of Aboriginal title in untreated territories in Canada, but that it upheld the 2007 judgment of the British Columbia Supreme Court in which the trial judge determined that such title could be exercised over extensive tracts of land by a semi-nomadic people. The trial court decision relied heavily on the cartographic representation of Tsilhqot'in land use and occupancy regimes in three separate, but ultimately interrelated, mapping projects. All told, the SCC judgment not only confirmed the 'power of maps' to 'make visible' that which had previously been experienced, known and transmitted across the generations through a qualitatively different cultural perspective, but likely contains lessons for 'best practices' in a decolonizing cartography that can be used to support Indigenous land claims.

Didn't have the money to travel Europe or Asia, but found an alternative close to home! Where hikes turn into scrambles and cars turn into bears.... this trip was unforgettable.
Encountered a total of 7 Bears, 4 Elk, 1 Caribou, and 16 Big Horn Sheep
With that said, after driving 2541 km, hiking 125.4 km with an elevation gain/loss of 9070 m, and countless mountain summits later, I can confidently say I live in one of the best countries in the world. Canada.

Green gold is the lush softwood forest that dominates the coastline and blankets the flat interior of British Columbia. For over a century the entire province prospered from the harvest of these forests. Suddenly in the 1980s the industry succumbed to a depression brought on by soaring interest rates and a decline in markets but aggravated by longer-term problems. As the industry "went down", so did the provincial economy which depended on it. In the first part of this work Marchak deals with the nature of a staples economy and its inherent weaknesses. She explores the history of the British Columbia forestry industry, government legislation, and reaction to this legislation by companies, unions, the media and community groups. In a detailed study of workers in resource towns she finds that this labour force cannot be described in terms of "human capital" theories. The relationship between employment and markets and industrial technology is examined along with the situation of women in single-industry towns. Two resource communities are compared: one, a new "instant" town; the other, an old logging town - both sensitive to market changes and locked into the export of a single staple. While this book is not an expose of government or company policies, it builds up a case that together capital and the provincial state created a vulnerable hinterland economy on the base of a rich but limited resource. In summarizing the data and theory contained in the book, Marchak considers what alternatives exist for regions such as British Columbia within the North American capitalist economy. Based on data obtained from governmental and non-government documents and reports and on interviews with industry officials and workers, "Green gold" makes a contribution to our knowledge of single-industry towns, the sociology of work, and the sociology of women in Canada. It offers material on the forestry industry of British Columbia which can be adapted to similar regions and other resource-based industries.

Come along as the crew from the Freeride Chronicles hits the Backcountry in search of epic powder turns. Their first stop brings them north, deep into the Interior of British Columbia for a few days at Monashee Powder Snowcats. A foot of fresh snow falls during their travel day to the lodge and the crew knows their timing couldn’t be better.
After a fun stay at Monashee the crew boards a plane and heads further into British Columbia to Terrace for a few days of heli and cat skiing at Northern Escape Heli. The community of Terrace, once known for it’s logging, has transformed into a powder skiing destination.
The opportunity to spend a few nights in a yurt in the Montana Backcountry doesn’t come around too often, so when Great Northern Powder Guides Backcountry Yurt opened up, the Freeride crew and friends loaded up and made their way to the outskirts of Whitefish, Montana. Unfortunately, the days the trip was scheduled turned out to be record highs of 50 degrees in the valley. This group of friends wasn’t going to let the warm weather put a damper on their adventure.
The town of Kaslo sits on the majestic shores of Kootenay Lake in British Columbia. We soon found out this is the perfect spot to base a heli-skiing operation from. Stellar Heli-skiing has been flying guests out of this location for almost 10 years and we had to see what all the hype was about.

The Biogeoclimatic Ecosystem Classification (BEC) system is a key tool for natural resource management and conservation in British Columbia. Within the southern interior, practitioners have been using BEC field guides that were developed in the early 1990s. Now, almost 25 years later, the BEC mapping and site series within the southern interior are undergoing massive change. These changes are the result of considerably more data and modernized technology. This webinar will outline the major changes to BEC that are anticipated to be released within early 2015 and 2016, with an emphasis on changes related to conservation and biodiversity, including an overview of some of the work being done around anticipating effects of climate change on ecosystems and how the updated BEC system will remain relevant in a changing climate context.
