Nouveau 3 – 16×20, metallic acrylics on canvas. I think I’m generally done with the black canvasses and ideas for this series. I really liked mixing classic Art Nouveau-Deco/silent film styled women with calligraphy and more interpretative brushwork and had a fun time learning some different techniques.

Latest piece, Nouveau 2, metallic acrylics on wood. I really like doing these reverse dark-to-light paintings and having one element rendered tightly while the rest is loose and interpretive. I suppose at this point it’s not necessary to point out design devices in my work since I use the same ones over and over.
New piece is metallic acrylics on a scrap 24×32 board. Like much of my recent work, I used a loose splatter and render for the background, and sharper paint for the figure and typographic-styled embellishments.
You can now follow Gostworks on Instagram. Most of the same work I post there is the same as here at the main site, albeit squarely cropped and far less verbose. The format does allow for WIP photos and random sketches much more fluidly so I will occasionally post those as well. I do appreciate the feedback and like the ease of connecting with people and other artists on there.
This one was a fast doodle with a silver Sharpie on black board. I like working with high-contrast sometimes, and had fun going freeform without an outline too. I think subconsciously this piece had me thinking about an album cover by now-defunct Scottish crusters Sedition, featuring a Pictish man, cartoony, but in full adornment. I of course put my own twist on it by incorporating the Middle Eastern, Art Nouveau and Punk styles I often reference.
