Pope Gelasius declared February 14 to be St. Valentines Day
888 Flash back presents historical events with a twist. About this movie: Valentines Day, also known as St. Valentine's Day, is a holiday celebrated on February 14th. Tradition has made this day to be the day of lovers and dedicated to celebrating their love. On this day each year people all over the world give their loved ones presents like greeting cards, called Valentine's cards, flowers and candy. The origin of Valentines Day is not completely known. It goes back to the time of the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, celebrated on February 15th, which centers on fertility. This pagan festival was reincarnated by Pope Gelasius I as a Christian feast, around 496 and named February 14th St. Valentines Day. The St. Valentine which this celebration commemorates remains unknown. There were more than one Christians saints by that name -- one was a priest in Rome, another was a bishop in Terni and the third one dies ion Africa and remains a mystery to this day. Interesting fact: all three Valentines are said to have been martyred on February 14th. More free flash movies at www.flashones.com

Valentines Day Quotes
Happy Valentine's Day 2012 www.valentinesdayquote.com Saint Valentine's Day (Valentine's Day) is an annual commemoration held on February 14 celebrating love and affection between intimate companions. The day is named after one or more early Christian martyrs named Valentine and was established by Pope Gelasius I in 500 AD. It was deleted from the Roman calendar of saints in 1969 by Pope Paul VI, but its religious observance is still permitted. It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines"). The day first became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. Modern Valentine's Day symbols include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have become tradition all over the world. www.valentinesdayquote.com

The History of Valentines Day -Saint Valentine
The History of Valentines Day -Saint Valentine Additional Note: One Valentine was a Roman priest and doctor who was persecuted by the emperor Claudius II for marrying Christian couples. Claudius took a liking to Valentine, but Valentine overstepped his bounds when he tried to convert the emperor, and Claudius sentenced him to death -- and an ugly death at that. He was beaten, stoned, and finally beheaded. There is another Valentine who appears in early martyrologies: a bishop of Terni, Italy, who was also allegedly persecuted in Rome. It's been proposed that this man was one and the same as the Valentine executed by Claudius. The feast of St. Valentine was established by Pope Gelasius I in 496. Some say that Valentine's feast day is celebrated in February because the church wanted to Christianize an ancient Roman pagan festival called Lupercalia, which centered around fertility and purification, and also took place in February. This same situation of changing a holiday happened with Christmas being held on Dec. 25. Facebook: www.facebook.com Website: thestoryofliberty.net Blog: thestoryoflibertyblog.com
