A special adviser works in a supporting role to the British government. With media, political or policy expertise, their duty is to assist and advise government ministers. They are often referred to as "SPAD"s (special political advisors). Being a special advisor has become a frequent career stage for young politicians, before being elected Members of Parliament, which has attracted criticism in recent years.
Special advisers are paid by central government and are styled as so-called "temporary civil servants" appointed under Article 3 of the Civil Service Order in Council 1995. They contrast with "permanent" civil servants in the respect that they are political appointees whose loyalties are claimed by the governing party and often particular ministers with whom they have a close relationship. For this reason, advisers may resign when a general election is called to campaign on behalf of their party. Special advisers have sometimes been criticised for engaging in advocacy while still on the government payroll or switching directly between lobbying roles and the special adviser role.
Mr Fox were an early 1970s electric folk or folk rock band. They were seen as in the ‘second generation’ of electric folk performers and for a time were compared with Steeleye Span and Sandy Denny’s Fotheringay. Unlike Steeleye Span they mainly wrote their own material in a traditional style and developed a distinct ‘northern’ variant of the genre. They demonstrate the impact and diversity of the electric folk movement and the members went on to pursue significant careers within the electric folk and traditional music genres after they disbanded in 1972 having recording two highly regarded albums.
By the late 1960s Bob and Carole Pegg were already well-established singers and musicians on the British folk scene based in Yorkshire. In 1969 they moved south and played London folk clubs, where they met Ashley Hutchings, who had recently left Fairport Convention and was attempting to form a new group involving members of the Irish band Sweeney's Men including Terry Woods. They took part in rehearsals but the embryonic band soon broke up and Hutchings went on to form Steeleye Span with Woods and his wife Gay. The Peggs were approached by record producer Bill Leader. He secured them a contract with Transatlantic Records. For their first album they recruited Alun Eden (drums), Barry Lyons (bass), Andrew Massey (cello) and John Myatt (woodwinds) and adopted the name Mr Fox, the title of one of their songs and a nod towards one of the recurring figures of folk lore.

Her Majesty's Government (HMG; Welsh: Llywodraeth Ei Mawrhydi), commonly referred to as the British government, is the central government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The government is led by the prime minister, who selects all the remaining ministers. The prime minister and the other most senior ministers belong to the supreme decision-making committee, known as the Cabinet. The government ministers usually all sit in Parliament, and are accountable to it. The government is dependent on Parliament to make primary legislation, and since the Fixed-terms Parliaments Act 2011, general elections are held every five years to elect a new House of Commons, unless there is a successful vote of no confidence in the government in the House of Commons, in which case an election may be held in short order. After an election, the monarch (currently Queen Elizabeth II) selects as prime minister the leader of the party most likely to command a majority of MPs in the House of Commons.
Liam Fox (born 22 September 1961) is a British Conservative politician, Member of Parliament (MP) for North Somerset, founder of the charity Give Us Time, and former Secretary of State for Defence.
Fox studied medicine at the University of Glasgow and worked as a GP and Civilian Army Medical Officer before being elected as an MP in 1992. After holding several ministerial roles in John Major's Conservative government, Fox served as Constitutional Affairs Spokesman (1998–99), Shadow Health Secretary (1999–2003), Conservative Party chairman (2003–05), Shadow Foreign Secretary (2005) and Shadow Defence Secretary (2005–10).
Fox stood unsuccessfully in the 2005 Conservative leadership election. In 2010, he was appointed Secretary of State for Defence, a position from which he resigned on 14 October 2011 over allegations that he had given a close friend, lobbyist Adam Werritty, access to the Ministry of Defence and allowed him to join official trips overseas.
Fox was born and raised in a Catholic family in East Kilbride, Scotland and brought up in a council house that his parents later bought.
A look at what so called special advisors do, also known as spin doctors. They gorge through taxpayers money to pretend their message is correct, while fooling the electorate to believe them, all at taxpayers expense. Recorded from BBC Daily Politics, 19 March 2012.

The row over Liam Fox has "distracted" the Ministry of Defence and is making it "very difficult" for staff to get on with their jobs, a Tory MP has said. Former Army officer Patrick Mercer told BBC Radio 4 a meeting he had been due to attend at the MoD was cancelled on Monday amid "the fuss and the dramas". Senior civil servants investigating the defence secretary's conduct have interviewed his friend Adam Werritty. They were expected to ask him why he has joined Mr Fox on 18 overseas trips. Number 10 has said serious mistakes were made and asked an internal inquiry to address "all remaining questions". Mr Cameron is understood to have discussed the findings of an interim report on the inquiry with Mr Fox, but is not expected to make a final decision on his future until he sees the full re...

From 2006-12 he served as Special Representative for Climate Change to three successive UK Foreign Secretaries, spanning the current Coalition and the previous Labour Government. Ahead of the European elections he discusses what Europe and his European identity mean to him.
Britain could be offered the option of imposing a seven-year emergency brake on immigration from the EU as part of a deal to keep it in the single market, under plans being considered by top officials. British and European officials believe the move would soften the economic shock of leaving the EU while also addressing people's concerns over immigration. It would also soften the political blow to the European project amid concerns that growing Eurosceptism throughout the continent could lead to other countries splitting from Brussels. Senior British ministers, including Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, is determined to keep Britain in the lucrative single market, which allows tariff-free trade between all 28 member states and a consumer market of around 500 million customers. But there ...

Not all banks, businesses and organisations are the same. The significant diversity that exists in corporate forms and behaviour is neglected by standard approaches to management and economics. This lecture proposes that thinking about complexity and diversity, rather than assuming it away, yields new insights into sources of financial stability, innovation and environmental sustainability.
