Pete Tong

Peter "Pete" Tong, MBE (born 31 July 1960) is a British DJ who works for BBC Radio 1. He is the host of programmes such as Essential Mix and Essential Selection on the radio service, which can be heard through Internet radio streams, for his record label FFRR Records, and for his own performances at nightclubs and music festivals. Tong has also worked as a record producer, and is regarded as the "global ambassador for electronic music"

The phrase "It's all gone Pete Tong", where the name is used as rhyming slang for "a bit wrong", was reputedly first coined by Paul Oakenfold in late 1987 in an article about acid house called "Bermondsey Goes Balearic" for Terry Farley and Pete Heller's Boys Own fanzine. It's All Gone Pete Tong is also the title of a 2004 film which portrays a fictional DJ's experiences as he realises he is becoming deaf. Tong appears briefly in the film. It is also the name Tong has adopted for his club night at the nightclub Pacha in Ibiza and his nightly radio program in the United States on iHeartRadio's "Evolution" EDM format platform.

Pjanoo

"Pjanoo" (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈpjɑːnʊ]) is a keyboard-based house track by the Swedish DJ and producer Eric Prydz. It has received moderate airplay amongst British radio stations, being heavily used by BBC Radio 1 in advertisements for their "Radio 1 Big Weekend" and "Weekend in Ibiza" events. The single peaked at number six on the Swedish Singles Chart. "Pjanoo" found success outside Sweden, particularly in the United Kingdom, where it peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart and topped the country's Dance chart for ten non-consecutive weeks.

Background and release

The song has been on promotional release since 17 March 2008 with Eric Prydz's own label, Pryda, with a limited number of 12" pressings available on special order. The song was released on 25 August 2008 by Ministry of Sound's Imprint Label, Data Records.

Prydz stated: "I played it in a club in northern UK in 2006. Didn't get the reaction I thought I would, so I didn't play it for years until I found the CD while playing at 'Ambasadeur' club in Stockholm. Played it for fun again and it went off. Someone filmed it and it ended up on YouTube. The rest is history."

Heritage Orchestra

Heritage Orchestra is a 30 to 60-piece orchestra that collaborates with present-day artists from the mainstream and experimental worlds of music and art. It is currently resident at the De La Warr Pavilion in East Sussex. In 2010, The Heritage Orchestra was nominated in the 9th Independent Music Awards and won the Contemporary Classical Album award for their performance of G. Prokofiev Concerto for Turntables along with DJ Yoda.

Heritage Orchestra was founded in June 2004 by Producer/Manager Christopher Wheeler and Conductor/Composer Jules Buckley. Chris was profiled in 2011 as one of the "cultural engineers" of Honda's Dream Factory.

Ethos

The ensemble rejects orchestral stereotypes. It is influenced by current art and music, gets inspiration from contemporary culture, is inspired by issues germane to quotidian topics, creates cultural critiques of the curious and constant and takes on sub-cultural trends and the latest technologies. By absorbing what the creative world offers now, the Heritage Orchestra relies not on the historical significance of ‘repertoire’, but on the potential of discovering new experiences for artists and the public. The orchestra has always aimed to work with people that may not have necessarily worked with an orchestra before. When devising programmes they look towards unlikely cohorts that stretch from electronica, dance-music, folk, rock, dubstep, hip-hop, jazz and contemporary classical.

Eric Sheridan Prydz (/ˈprɪdz/; born July 19, 1976), also known by his stage names Pryda /ˈpraɪ.də/ and Cirez D,/ˈsaɪ.rɛz.diː/ is a Swedish DJ and producer based in Los Angeles.

Personal life

Aside from producing music, Prydz also runs the record labels Pryda, Pryda Friends and Mouseville, which release most of his own music. On Pryda, he releases music as Pryda. On Mouseville Records, started in 2002, he releases techno tracks as Cirez D.

Career

Prydz was perhaps best known for his 2004 hit single "Call on Me", at that time, which sampled the Steve Winwood hit "Valerie". It topped the UK singles charts for five weeks and was also number one on the German Top 100 for six consecutive weeks. Although this track made him immensely popular, Eric has stopped playing it in his shows in an attempt to distance himself from the track. In some respects he has succeeded, and with his newer songs, Eric has gained recognition from both underground and mainstream fans. In 2006, he released a remixed version of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2", titled "Proper Education", with a video. And he was also the only artist ever to be given the go ahead to sample Pink Floyd .
