See subscription optionsWhile the rain on Monday night significantly reduced fire activity at Buckyjumba, 15km west of Nerrigundah, 20km northwest of Tinpot and 3km north east of Belowra Valley, Wednesday’s weather proved challenging with strong winds, high temperatures and low humidity.
Despite the adverse conditions, containment lines are continuing to hold the fire to its current size - about 775 hectares.
High winds yesterday forced all helicopters to stand down until conditions moderate.
Residents can expect aircraft activity to resume as soon as conditions allow.
Heavy plant including bulldozers and graders are continuing to deal with any weak points and developing a range of fallback options.
Residents should remain aware of the situation as conditions can change quickly.
There are currently no road closures in this area, however, residents should monitor conditions and check with the RMS to ensure they have the most up to date information. Residents should also be aware that fire vehicles will be travelling back and forth from Staging Areas in Bodalla in the morning and evening.
A second fire (Corn Trail Fire) has started in remote country 18km north west of Nelligen in Monga National Park.
On Wednesday night the fire was about five hectares in size and burning out of control. There are currently no assets threatened, however residents should keep themselves informed of any developments.
The Corn Trail walking track has been closed as have all trails leading into this area of Monga National Park.
The Wirritin Ridge fire, 36km west of Ulladulla, is also still listed as out of control.
The fire has burnt through 3811 ha and last night reached the Western Distributor.
The Cold Chisel fire, in the Murramarang National Park, has been downgraded to alert status. It has burnt 200 ha and is under control.
