Iran: A Conversation with Maziar Bahari and The Daily Shows Jason Jones
With Maziar Bahari and Jason Jones.
In June 2009, Canadian-Iranian journalist, playwright, and documentary filmmaker Maziar Bahari was among hundreds of people arrested following the disputed Iranian presidential elections. He was held for 118 days in Tehrans notorious Evin Prison. PEN and the Committee to Protect Journalists led an international campaign for his release, and are now working with him to draw attention to the many writers and journalists currently imprisoned in Iran. Shortly before he was arrested, Bahari filmed an interview with The Daily Shows Jason Jones, who had traveled to Iran to do a series of satiricaland poignantpre-election reports about the Iranian people, entitled Access to Evil. While in prison, one of the things Bahari was questioned about was the interview with Jones, whom his interrogators labeled a spy. We are thrilled to present this remarkable reunion conversation with Maziar Bahari and Jason Jones, about this tumultuous year in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Press TV gaining popularity in Australia over past years
To the ordinary viewer, there's a range of international news channels to pick from, including older channels like CNN and the BBC, to more alternative networks like RT and Press TV. The alternative channels have gained popularity in recent years over the airing of different news stories and offering different perspectives. But Press TV has incurred the wrath of various European Governments & Satellite companies, most recently Press TV's CEO Mohammad Sarafraz and News Director, Hamid Reza Emadi have been placed on the European Union's Travel & Assets Freeze Blacklist over alleged human rights violations concerning a 10 second clip showing an interview with Iranian-Canadian Journalist Maziar Bahari, who was detained in Tehran's Evin Prison during the 2009 Election Unrest, with Mr Bahari claiming that he did the interview under duress, actions denied by Press TV.
The channel has also been taken off air in several European Countries, which is seen as a violation of freedom of speech. The Head of the University of Technology Sydney Journalism Department Professor Alan Knight says Australians are turning to alternative news sources and away from traditional media such as News Limited newspapers.

Zionists can't stand Press TV truth: Paul Sheldon Foote
www.youtube.com/LatestBestNews
An analyst says the EU bans on Press TV officials have been imposed as Zionists and totalitarian governments need to be able to sensor the truth from the public.
The comment comes as on Tuesday, the European Union blacklisted Press TV CEO Mohammad Sarafraz and Newsroom Director Hamid Reza Emadi for airing a 10-second report about Iranian-Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari, who worked for Newsweek magazine in Tehran in 2009 following post-election riots in Iran.
Sarafraz and Emadi are the latest victims in the ongoing international campaign to repress Iranian media. Both have been falsely accused without explanation or being given the chance to defend themselves.
This is not the first time that Iranian channels come under attack by the West. In January, the Spanish government ordered Madrid's regional government to stop the broadcast of the Iranian Spanish language channel, Hispan TV, as of January 21, after taking Press TV off the air.
Press TV has conducted an interview with professor of California University, Paul Sheldon Foote, in Irvine, California to further discuss the issue.

SYRIAN GIRL: NWO ZIONISTS Decide What Americans Can See! [MEDIA CENSORSHIP]
The Zionists lobby has deemed PressTV unacceptable viewing for American eyes. They fear a dangerous truth , it's time to FIGHT BACK.
Britain took a key communications arm of the Iranian state off the airwaves on Friday when Press TV, a satellite news channel, lost its broadcasting licence.
Ofcom, the UK regulator, took this decision after Press TV repeatedly broke the broadcasting code.
In 2009, the channel showed an interview with Maziar Bahari, a "Newsweek" journalist, who had been jailed in Tehran while covering mass protests against a disputed presidential election.
Mr Bahari said this interview had been conducted under duress and his captors had threatened him with execution unless he gave the answers he wanted. Last year, Ofcom imposed a fine of £100,000 on Press TV, reversing an earlier decision to revoke the channel's licence.
As part of the investigation into this incident, Ofcom found that editorial decisions governing the channel were taken in Tehran. It wanted Press TV to be under the editorial control of the same company in London that held the broadcasting licence. Alternatively, the licence could have been transferred to Tehran.
An Ofcom spokesman said that Press TV failed to agree to these proposals, and that consequently its licence had been revoked. This decision was "not taken lightly," he added, and only a handful of licences had been taken away in the eight-year history of Ofcom.
So far, Press TV has also failed to pay the fine of £100,000, ignoring a deadline of 5 January, although Ofcom said this was not the reason for the withdrawal of its licence. BSkyB, the satellite broadcaster, has been ordered to drop Press TV from its network in the UK.
Press TV said the decision amounted to a "clear instance of censorship"
The media ban on Press TV and Hispan TV violates the people's right to choose and amounts to intellectual sabotage, says an Iranian academic.
"In fact, depriving the international community of these channels is stripping the people across the globe of the choice to hear. It is not 'kosher' and amounts to an act of intellectual abacination," Ismail Salami wrote in an article on the Press TV website Sunday.
He added that the negative consequences of the ban on Iranian channels were not limited to Iran, saying Press TV and Hispan TV "are the inalienable rights of the world citizens who are entitled to have an alternative voice different from theirs and choose to hear."
Salami, who has authored several books and hundreds of articles, went on to underline the fact that European governments favor "media blackout" in a bid to cover up realistic news about their faltering economy.
Spain's satellite provider Hispasat has taken Press TV and Hispan TV off the air and ordered Overon, another satellite company, to stop the transmission of the two international TV channels.
Overon says the ban on Press TV and Hispan TV follows a similar move by France's Eutelsat company, which has already taken several Iranian satellite channels and radio stations off the air. It says the channels will be removed because of "a wider interpretation of EU regulations."
Salami stated that both channels have been playing a significant role in "raising intellectual awareness and political insight" to the dismay of Europe.
"These channels hold a mirror to the European audience wherein the reality is reflected as it should. And this is exactly what harrows Europe with fear and wonder," wrote the prominent academic.

Maziar Bahari - Then They Came for Me
Maziar Bahari left London in June 2009 to cover Iran's presidential election, believing he'd return to his pregnant fiancée, Paola, in just a few days, a week at most. In fact he would spend the next three months in Iran's most notorious prison, enduring brutal interrogation sessions, released only after mounting global outrage and a final condemnation from US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Gripping and masterfully told, THEN THEY CAME FOR ME delves into Iran's history of oppression, and details how the democratic impulses of the youth are violently oppressed by a government that grows ever more totalitarian. An intimate account of contemporary Iran, it is also the moving and wonderfully written story of one family's extraordinary courage in the face of repression.
Here Maziar discusses the process of writing the book, the current political situation in Iran, and what the future holds for the country.
Praise for the book:
"A profound, yet intimate insight into modern day Iran, told through Bahari's own and his family's experience of living through it. A wonderful book." - Jon Snow, Channel Four News
"A superb account ... Insightful and brave." - Jane Corbin, journalist and reporter for BBC's Panorama
"A beautifully written account of life in Iran, filled with insights not only into the power struggles and political machinations but into the personal, emotional lives of the people living in that complicated country. Maziar Bahari is a brave man and a wonderful storyteller." - Fareed Zakaria, author of The Post-American World
"A riveting, brutally honest account, Then They Came for Me is one of the most powerful prison memoirs I have ever read. This haunting and unforgettable book will make you angry at the prison that is today's Iran, and happy that a fine journalist like Maziar Bahari escaped to tell the truth about the regime." - David Ignatius, author of Body of Lies
"This harrowing memoir provides an illuminating glimpse into the security apparatus of one of the world's most repressive countries. Especially timely given recent events throughout the Middle East, this book is recommended for anyone wishing to better understand the workings of a police state." - Kirkus Reviews
"What makes Bahari's account so readable is not only his sense of fair play -- he tries to understand the motivations of the regime, and of his torturer -- but also his keen sense of fun and humour." - The Sunday Times
