It is a lap of the globe starting and finishing in Barcelona (Spain). This is an extreme sporting challenge and ocean adventure that puts human limits to the test. Organised by the Fundació Navegació Oceànica Barcelona (FNOB), the regatta is part of the IMOCA Ocean Masters World Championships. The start of the race is on the 31st of December 2014 at 13h00, with the starting line positioned opposite the W Barcelona hotel at the city's port. The finishes are forecasted for the end of March 2015. The boats cover some 23,000 nautical miles in a circumnavigation from Barcelona to Barcelona, putting the capes of Good Hope (South Africa), Leeuwin (Australia) and Horn (Chile) to port (their left) and the Antarctic to starboard (their right). During the three months of racing the skippers make their way through 12 climate zones and cross 3 oceans, as well as sailing in the Mediterranean Sea. The crews race on IMOCA 60 yachts, 18 metres in length. Their masts can reach up to a maximum of 29 metres, as high as a building with ten floors.

The Korea Cup International Yacht Race is underway in the eastern waters of Korea. This year′s event is more than just a sporting event... it has special meaning， since it′s being held in the year marking the 70th anniversary of Korea′s independence from Japan. The highlight of the six－day event is the so－called Dokdo race， where the sailors make their way around Korea′s easternmost island. Connie Kim takes us there. It′s time for a yachting competition in Korea. Sailors from all four corners of the world gathered in the eastern coastal city of Uljin this weekend for the 8th Korea Cup International Yacht Race. Participants are competing in either of two races. The inshore race is a two－to－four kilometer course in waters around Uljin. But the highlight of the event is the offshore race， also called the Dokdo race. On this course sailors depart from Uljin， make their way to Ulleung－do Island and Korea′s easternmost Dokdo Island， and then sail back to their departure point in Uljin. It′s not an easy task，... especially for first－time participants，... but the sailors say it′s all about the experience. ″Just the fact that I′ve been invited to Korea to this exotic place for us to participate in this regatta to participate in this Dokdo island. Just got my lights on and just go for it.″ For the Korean sailors， participating in the race is something of a show of affection for the Korea－controlled Dokdo Island， which Japan claims as its territory. ″I love yachts， I love the sea and I love our Dokdo. I participate in this race every year in an effort to protect territory Dokdo.″ ″Seventeen yachts are competing in this offshore race， dubbed ″Marathon on the Sea.″ They′ll be sailing almost a thousand kilometers in just 60 hours.″ As the yachts made their turn around Dokdo on Sunday， a special ceremony was held to mark the 70th anniversary of Korea′s independence from Japan in 1945. ″Our aim is to promote Dokdo is our territory and let the world know about the beauty of the island through this sailing competition.″ As long as Japan’s claims to Dokdo continue， Korea’s efforts to promote it as its own territory through this event will continue.
