Samuel Cook (January 22, 1931 – December 11, 1964), known professionally as Sam Cooke, was an American singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur.
Influential as both a singer and composer, he is commonly known as the King of Soul for his distinctive vocals and importance within popular music. His pioneering contributions to soul music contributed to the rise of Aretha Franklin, Bobby Womack, Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Billy Preston, and popularized the likes of Otis Redding and James Brown.AllMusic biographer Bruce Eder wrote that Cooke was "the inventor of soul music", and possessed "an incredible natural singing voice and a smooth, effortless delivery that has never been surpassed".
Cooke had 30 U.S. top 40 hits between 1957 and 1964, plus three more posthumously. Major hits like "You Send Me", "A Change Is Gonna Come", "Cupid", "Chain Gang", "Wonderful World", and "Twistin' the Night Away" are some of his most popular songs. Cooke was also among the first modern black performers and composers to attend to the business side of his musical career. He founded both a record label and a publishing company as an extension of his careers as a singer and composer. He also took an active part in the civil rights movement.
Best or The Best may refer to:
Title of Record is the second album by American industrial rock band Filter. It was released on August 24, 1999, via Reprise Records. The album's earlier sessions were marred with slow progress due to line-up changes and frontman Richard Patrick deciding to create his own studio for recording. Upon solidifying the line-up, and bringing in further production help, progress improved, and the album was eventually released on August 24, 1999. The album would be a commercial success for the band, being their second of two platinum selling albums, selling over one million copies.
The album's creation took part over the course of an exhaustive four-year period. After the creation of Filter's 1995 debut album, Short Bus, which was created entirely by frontman Richard Patrick, Brian Liesegang, and a drum machine, the band toured in support of the album throughout 1996. In order to do this, a live band was recruited, consisting of Geno Lenardo on guitar, Frank Cavanaugh on bass, and Matt Walker on drums.
A greatest hits album, sometimes called a "best of" album or a catalog album, is a compilation of songs by a particular artist or band. Most often the track list contains previously released recordings with a high degree of notability. However, to increase the appeal, especially to people who already own the original release, it is common to include remixes and/or alternate takes of popular songs; even new material (previously unreleased). At times a greatest hits compilation is the original release for songs that have themselves been released as a single and charted successfully.
Madonna's The Immaculate Collection is the best selling greatest hits compilation by a solo artist; all of the songs on it are presented in different versions than the original hit versions. The Eagles' Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) is the best selling greatest hits compilation by a group and also one of the ten best selling albums in history. Greatest hits albums are typically produced after an artist has had enough successful songs to fill out an album release. Some artists, such as Mariah Carey, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Kenny Rogers, Aerosmith, Kiss, U2, Dolly Parton, Journey, Los Tigres del Norte, Queen, Kylie Minogue and Billy Joel, have released multiple greatest hits albums through their long careers. Some greatest hits albums are released only at the end of the artist or group's career. For example, My Chemical Romance released a greatest hits album after they disbanded. Other artists, like Eminem have released hits albums in the center of their success. He released Curtain Call: The Hits in 2005 and then Shady XV as a compilation album in 2014.

Sam Cooke,Little Richard,James Brown : Greatest Hits - Best Of Soul
This is a Gospel classic, by the most prominent Gospel group - The Soul Stirrers featuring Sam Cooke. I will be posting a similar pop soul tune called 'Loveable' with the same tune sung by a man under the pseudonym Dale Cook who sounded so much like the front man of the Soul Stirrers. Dale Cook was of course swiftly unmasked as Sam Cooke, who used the name to steer rumours away from his Gospel fans that he was going solo as a secular artist. Anyway both songs are superb, they are both equally wonderful and loveable!

Mary: I gotta change shoes. Mary: Okay, there we go. Now, that’s so much better. Stuart: Ladies and gentlemen, obviously, let’s begin at the beginning. Normally, the protocol is that we give people a round of applause at the end of the event. In this particular case, we’re going to break with all the protocols, because I know a lot of people that are in the audience, I’ve seen faces, I’ve seen people with reputations in the audience, and I think that all of us can say, unanimously that, Mary probably doesn’t really deeply understand how much impact her singing and her reputation has had in our lives, the way it’s shaped the love that we’ve got for the music. So, ladies and gentlemen, Mary Wilson of The Supremes, come on. [applause] Stuart: So, where to start? Let’s start with a quick q...

During the late 1960’s Jazz music was undergoing a major metamorphosis. Miles Davis was musically in transition and went from the traditional acoustic quartet to a more funky electronic sound. Out went the stand-up bass and came the electronic bass. Out with the standard piano and came the Fender Rhodes. Many musicians in what would be hailed as Fusion jazz phase, took rock, soul, and other free form elements and centered it with an electronic base. Musicians like Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea, Les McCann, Herbie Hancock, and Stevie Wonder used the Fender Rhodes as not a replacement to the standard piano, but as a means to create and experimental sound to evolve with the new music that took the world by storm. Pianist and keyboardist Lonnie Liston Smith is a pioneer in the fusion jazz/funk whe...

Abstract What moves us to action? Through this sound scape project we will explore music’s influence on social movements/events in the U.S. and abroad during times of war and peace (ie. The Civil Rights Movement, Apartheid, Occupy Wall Street and Nigeria, The L.A. Riots, Arab Spring, and anti-war movement of the Vietnam War). Think about what movements in history have caused/pushed all people to act no matter their race, religion, age, and/or class? What did music do for these movements and for the people that sacrificed their lives for change? Descriptive Summary This is an exploration of music’s role in driving social movements. With Occupy Wall Street right next door to the students at The New School I wanted to understand why more people and myself in general had not gotten involve...

Upon applying to an internship position at Hootsuite, I was asked to summarize what makes me unique in less than 150 characters. Of course, with my long and decorated history of writing theme songs for social-tech companies, the natural response was to make the staff aware of how I could bring this creative talent to the Hootsuite team. After passing the first-round phone interview, I decided to make good on my promise and deliver a catchy little ditty. The result is this video. I can't take full credit for the song. The melody belongs to a personal favorite: Sam Cooke's 'Cupid.'

The group covers standards such as Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" and James Weldon Johnson's "Lift Every Voice and Sing." In this special edition of The Pace Report, I had the honor of sitting down with Joey and members of The People to discuss the new CD, how they've meshed musically, and why Joey decided to switch from the traditional trio setting to a quartet.

Darling you send me
I know you send me
Darling you send me
Honest you do, Honest you do, Honest you do, whoa
You thrill me
I know you, you, you, you thrill me
Darling you, you, you, you thrill me, honest you do.
At first I thought it was infatuation but eww it’s lasted so long
Now I find myself wanting to marry you and take you home, whoa, whoa, whoa
You, you, you, send me

I know you send me
Honest you do
Whoa, whenever I’m with you
I know, I know I know when I’m near you
Mmmm hmmmm Honest you do, honest you do,
Whoa and oh, oh, oh
I know, I know, I know when you hold me
Whoa whenever you kiss me
Mmmm hmmm honest you do
At first I thought it was infatuation
But eww it’s lasted so long
Now I find myself wanting to marry you and take you home
I know, I know, I know
You send me
I kow you send me
Whoa, you, you , you send me
