Geoff Regan - calling on the Prime Minister Stephen Harper to testify under oath (Nov 2013)
Geoff Regan is the Member of Parliament for Halifax West Liberal Opposition Motion, November 26, 2013 That, given the recent sworn statements by RCMP Corporal Greg Horton, which revealed that: (i) on February 21, 2013, the Prime Minister's Office had agreed that, with regard to Mike Duffy's controversial expenses, the Conservative Party of Canada would "keep him whole on the repayment"; (ii) on February 22, 2013, the Prime Minister's Chief of Staff wanted to "speak to the PM before everything is considered final"; (iii) later on February 22, 2013, the Prime Minister's Chief of Staff confirmed "We are good to go from the PM once Ben has his confirmation from Payne"; (iv) an agreement was reached between Benjamin Perrin and Janice Payne, counsels for the Prime Minister and Mike Duffy; (v) the amount to keep Mike Duffy whole was calculated to be higher than first determined, requiring a changed source of funds from Conservative Party funds to Nigel Wright's personal funds, after which the arrangement proceeded and Duffy's expenses were re-paid; and (vi) subsequently, the Prime Minister's Office engaged in the obstruction of a Deloitte audit and a whitewash of a Senate report; the House condemn the deeply disappointing actions of the Prime Minister's Office in devising, organizing and participating in an arrangement that the RCMP believes violated sections 119, 121 and 122 of the Criminal Code of Canada, and remind the Prime Minister of his own Guide for Ministers and Ministers of State, which states on page 28 that "Ministers and Ministers of State are personally responsible for the conduct and operation of their offices and the exempt staff in their employ," and the House call upon the Prime Minister to explain in detail to Canadians, under oath, what Nigel Wright or any other member of his staff or any other Conservative told him at any time about any aspect of any possible arrangement pertaining to Mike Duffy, what he did about it, and when. http://www.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/Publication.aspx?Language=E&Mode;=1&Parl;=41&Ses;=2&DocId;=6333782- published: 29 Nov 2013

Geoff Regan - Statement congratulating Mr. Michael Covert (March 3, 2014)
Geoff Regan is the Member of Parliament for Halifax West March 3, 2014 - House of Commons Hon. Geoff Regan (Halifax West, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, I would like to congratulate Michael Covert, a constituent who has been recognized by the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre Foundation for his generosity. Mr. Covert has made donations to the QEII Foundation in honour of 422 friends, colleagues, and loved ones. Like countless others, I admire his dedication to volunteerism and philanthropy. He supports a number of non-profit organizations in my riding of Halifax West. Mr. Covert sits on the board of Bridgeway Academy and supports students with learning disabilities through his Mary Jane Covert Bursary. He also sits on the board of Callow Wheelchair Bus, a non-profit that assists veterans and people with disabilities. I ask the House to join me in congratulating Michael Covert on this well-deserved honour. Way to go, Mike.- published: 05 Mar 2014

Geoff Regan - cuts to health care benefits for federal retirees (Dec 10 2013)
Geoff Regan is the Member of Parliament for Halifax West Question Period - December 10, 2013 Hon. Geoff Regan (Halifax West, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, I met with over 55 concerned constituents on Saturday, who fear the current mean-spirited government will cut their health care benefits. They are among thousands of retired public servants who have paid into a health care plan for decades to ensure they would be looked after in their senior years. Now they hear the Conservatives plan to unilaterally double their monthly payments and restrict access to their health care. Will the President of the Treasury Board stand today and will he promise today to keep his paws off their benefits? Hon. Tony Clement (President of the Treasury Board, CPC): Mr. Speaker, discussions are ongoing, but I can tell the House, it is a repeat of the language in the budget. We are seeking fair and reasonable discussions with the public sector representatives of the various bargaining tables. We want to protect the taxpayer from loads that are not sustainable in terms of public sector salary costs, and we will continue to represent and protect the taxpayer.- published: 11 Dec 2013

Geoff Regan - Canada Post must halt plan to cut home mail delivery (Feb 25, 2014)
Geoff Regan is the Member of Parliament for Halifax West Statement - House of Commons, February 25, 2014 Hon. Geoff Regan (Halifax West, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, last week Canada Post announced that some of my constituents would be the first to lose home mail delivery under the five point action plan. I have already heard from seniors and people with disabilities who say they will no longer be able to access their mail. Mr. Holloway from Bedford who has a disability says it will be very difficult to get to a community mail box. He relies on Canada Post to pay his bills and access government services. Mrs. Blackwell, a senior who lives on a street with no sidewalks says it will be dangerous for her to walk to get her mail, especially in winter. Mr. Brown lives on a busy highway and is worried about where Canada Post would put a community mail box that would be safe to access. Canada Post should suspend its misguided plan, conduct real consultation with Canadians and ensure everyone continues to have reliable postal service.- published: 26 Feb 2014

Geoff Regan - Ruthless closure of Veterans' Offices by Harper Conservatives (Feb 10, 2014)
Geoff Regan is the Member of Parliament for Halifax West February 10, 2014 - House of Commons Question Period Hon. Geoff Regan (Halifax West, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, Halifax's Philip Wood is a 92-year-old veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. In a recent letter to the editor, he called the decision to close the veteran's office as "one more unfeeling and ruthless action". Like many others, Mr. Wood believes the government is cutting critical services so it can offer goodies in time for the next election. When the government tables the budget tomorrow, will it listen to Mr. Wood, reopen those offices and start treating our veterans with respect?- published: 14 Feb 2014

Geoff Regan - Sambro Island Lighthouse Petition (Dec 3, 2013)
Geoff Regan is the Member of Parliament for Halifax West December 3, 2013 Mr. Speaker, I present a petition on behalf of Nova Scotians, who are calling on Parliament to create a strategy to preserve the Sambro Island lighthouse, an important symbol of our local heritage. In fact, it is the oldest lighthouse in operation in North America. I met with the community and with MLA Brendan Maguire recently, and I saw how strong the attachment is in the Sambro area. I want to congratulate the Sambro Island Lighthouse Heritage Society for its efforts to preserve and maintain this iconic structure. The society has actually gathered more than 5,000 signatures in support of the lighthouse. On behalf of those who signed the petition I am tabling today on behalf of all Nova Scotians who want our heritage preserved, we call on the federal government to continue to fund the Sambro Island lighthouse.- published: 04 Dec 2013
