The Story Of Thomas Alva Edison - American Inventor Biography / Educational Documentary
Thomas Alva Edison (February 11, 1847 -- October 18, 1931) was an American inventor and businessman. He developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world, including the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and a long-lasting, practical electric light bulb. Dubbed "The Wizard of Menlo Park" (now Edison, New Jersey) by a newspaper reporter, he was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and large-scale teamwork to the process of invention, and because of that, he is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research laboratory. Edison is the fourth most prolific inventor in history, holding 1,093 US patents in his name, as well as many patents in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. He is credited with numerous inventions that contributed to mass communication and, in particular, telecommunications. These included a stock ticker, a mechanical vote recorder, a battery for an electric car, electrical power, recorded music and motion pictures. Die Glühlampe oder Glühfadenlampe (früher Glühlicht) ist eine künstliche Lichtquelle. Umgangssprachlich werden Glühlampen wegen der Form als Glühbirnen bezeichnet. In der Glühlampe wird ein elektrischer Leiter durch elektrischen Strom aufgeheizt und dadurch zum Leuchten angeregt. Die weit verbreitete Bauform der Glühlampe mit Schraubsockel wird fachsprachlich als Allgebrauchslampe bezeichnet (abgekürzt A-Lampe oder AGL). Sie wird heute sehr oft noch zur Wohnraumbeleuchtung eingesetzt. In der Europäischen Union, der Schweiz, Australien und einigen anderen Ländern ist aus Energiespargründen ein Herstellungs- und Vertriebsverbot von Glühlampen mit geringer Energieeffizienz (Energielabel E, F und G) geplant, schon beschlossen oder bereits in Kraft. Thomas Alva Edison (* 11. Februar 1847 in Milan, Ohio; † 18. Oktober 1931 in West Orange, New Jersey) war ein US-amerikanischer Erfinder und Unternehmer mit dem Schwerpunkt auf dem Gebiet der Elektrizität und Elektrotechnik. Seine Verdienste gründen in erster Linie auf der Marktfähigkeit seiner Erfindungen, die er mit Geschick zu einem ganzen System von Stromerzeugung, Stromverteilung und innovativen elektrischen Konsumprodukten verbinden konnte. Edisons grundlegende Erfindungen und Entwicklungen in den Bereichen elektrisches Licht, Telekommunikation sowie Medien für Ton und Bild hatten einen großen Einfluss auf die allgemeine technische und kulturelle Entwicklung. In späteren Jahren gelangen ihm wichtige Entwicklungen der Verfahrenstechnik für die Bereiche Chemie und Zement. Seine Organisation der industriellen Forschung prägte die Entwicklungsarbeit späterer Unternehmen. Die Leistung von Edison bei der Elektrifizierung New Yorks und der Einführung von Elektrolicht markiert den Beginn der umfassenden Elektrifizierung in der kulturellen Entwicklung.
