C-C chemokine receptor type 5, also known as CCR5 or CD195, is a protein on the surface of white blood cells that is involved in the immune system as it acts as a receptor for chemokines. Many forms of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, initially use CCR5 to enter and infect host cells. A few individuals carry a mutation known as CCR5 delta 32 in the CCR5 gene, protecting them against these strains of HIV.

In humans, the CCR5 gene that encodes the CCR5 protein is located on the short (p) arm at position 21 on chromosome 3. Certain populations have inherited the Delta 32 mutation resulting in the genetic deletion of a portion of the CCR5 gene. Homozygous carriers of this mutation are resistant to M-tropic strains of HIV-1 infection.

The CCR5 protein belongs to the beta chemokine receptors family of integral membrane proteins. It is a G protein-coupled receptor which functions as a chemokine receptor in the CC chemokine group.

The natural chemokine ligands that bind to this receptor are RANTES (a chemotactic cytokine protein also known as CCL5) and macrophage inflammatory protein (MIP) 1α and 1β (also known as CCL3 and CCL4). It also interacts with CCL3L1.

Christian Scott, born March 31, 1983, in New Orleans, Louisiana, is the 2010 Edison Award winner for Best International Jazz Artist and a Grammy Award-nominated jazz trumpeter, composer and producer. He has been heralded by JazzTimes magazine as "the Architect of a new commercially viable fusion" and "Jazz's young style God".

The nephew of jazz alto saxophonist Donald Harrison, since 2006 Scott has released four studio albums, and one live recording.

The trumpeter is noted for his use of an unvoiced tone, which he calls his "whisper technique."

Christian Scott, and his twin brother, Kiel, were born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on March 31, 1983, to Cara Harrison and Clinton Scott III.

Scott first studied with his mother. Once Scott demonstrated talent, his uncle, Donald Harrison, Jr. began to teach him. By the age of fourteen, Christian auditioned for New Orleans Center of Creative Arts. He was accepted to the high school for the arts and excelled under the direction of jazz music program directors, Clyde Kerr, Jr. and Kent Jordan.

Myles W. Jackson (born Paterson, New Jersey on 25 November 1964) is the Dibner Family Professor of the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology at Polytechnic Institute of New York University. The chair is named after Bern Dibner (1897 – 1988), an electrical engineer, industrialist, historian of science and technology and alumnus of Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.

Jackson is also Director of Science and Technology Studies at NYU-Poly and Professor of the History of Science and Technology at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study of New York University. He received his Ph.D. in the History and Philosophy of Science from Cambridge University with Simon Schaffer in 1991. He has been a Senior Fellow of the Dibner Institute of the History of Science and Technology of MIT and the Max-Planck-Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, Germany.

He is the author of numerous articles on the history, philosophy, and sociology of science and technology, with a particular emphasis on the cultural history of nineteenth-century German physics. He has also authored two books, Harmonious Triads: Physicists, Musicians, and Instrument Makers in Nineteenth-Century Germany (MIT Press, 2006) and Spectrum of Belief: Joseph von Fraunhofer and the Craft of Precision Optics (MIT Press, 2000), which won the Paul Bunge Prize of the German Chemical Society for the best work on the history of scientific instruments in 2005 and the Hans Sauer Prize for the best work on the history of inventors and inventions in 2007.
