I was inspired to create this track after watching a number of space shuttle launch videos. Amazing to think of how far we've come since the 1950's and what yet lies ahead for us.
I've always been a big fan of humankind's endeavours into space, regardless of which country or initiative is behind them. And I think that such efforts to explore the great cosmic ocean beyond these earthly shores are some of the most important to our long term survival as a species. The people, companies, and countries behind these pursuits should be commended for their courage, their hard work, and their imagination. They are some of the truest 'heroes' this planet has ever produced.
This song is a tribute to these visionaries, and my own little 'thank you' of sorts for their dedication to a field of study that rarely gets the accolades or attention (or, sadly, the funding) it truly deserves.
All music was composed and recorded in Logic Pro X with the help of Native Instruments Komplete soft synths.

In the fullest meaning of the quote by Isaac Newton, the millennial generation will have the opportunity to see further than ever before, standing on the shoulders of the giants that have come before us. Our video highlights the science and technology driven by advancements in space exploration that have come become before us and describes the opportunities that our generation has to use them for the benefit of humanity.
All the raw video used to make the work is of student projects and events. Enabled by mentors, advisors, and universities around the world college students are already starting to shape the future of space, science, and technology and the clips used are just a few of the many incredible projects being worked on at the University of Colorado Boulder.
The projects and events in the video include, in order of appearance: an astronomy viewing session at the local observatory, the assembly of an International Space Station payload through BioServe Space Technologies, micro-rocket design and testing, the design of a human spacecraft cockpit, a graduate projects course taught by former astronaut Joe Tanner, and public outreach raising awareness of space exploration.
For video footage, filming support, and scripting advice, the team would like to thank the University of Colorado Aerospace Engineering Sciences department, Dr. David Klaus and Joe Tanner (advisors), the Sommers-Bausch Observatory, the BUFFS HL-20 graduate projects team, and BioServe Space Technologies.

Spacefaring
To be spacefaring is to be capable of and active in the art of space travel or space transport, the operation of spacecraft or spaceplanes. It involves a knowledge of a variety of topics and development of specialised skills including (but not limited to): aeronautics; astronautics; programs to train astronauts; space weather and forecasting; ship-handling and small craft handling; operation of various equipment; spacecraft design and construction; atmospheric takeoff and reentry; orbital mechanics (aka astrodynamics); communications; engines and rockets; execution of evolutions such as towing, micro-gravity construction, and space docking; cargo handling equipment, dangerous cargoes and cargo storage; spacewalking; dealing with emergencies; survival at space and first aid; fire fighting; life support. The degree of knowledge needed within these areas is dependent upon the nature of the work and the type of vessel employed. "Spacefaring" is analogous to seafaring.
Until now, there has never been a crewed mission outside the Earth–Moon system (so far as the human inhabitants of planet Earth are concerned or aware of). However, the United States, Russia, China, European Space Agency countries, and a few corporations and enterprises have plans in various stages to travel to Mars (see Manned mission to Mars).

No Man's Sky
No Man's Sky is an upcoming adventure survival video game developed and published by the indie studio Hello Games. Players are free to explore the entirety of a procedurally generated deterministic open universe, which includes over 18 quintillion (1.8×1019) planets, many with their own set of flora and fauna. By exploring, players will gain information about the planets that they can submit to The Atlas, a universal database that can be shared with other players of the game. Players also gain materials and blueprints to upgrade their character's equipment and purchase a variety of starships, allowing them to travel deeper into the center of the galaxy, interact in friendly or hostile manners to computer-controlled space-faring factions, or trade with other ships.
Some activities will draw the attention of Sentinels which will attempt to kill the player-character for killing too many lifeforms or draining too many resources from these planets. Players participate in a shared universe, with the ability to exchange planet coordinates with friends, though the game will also be fully playable offline; this is enabled by the procedural generation system that assures players will find the same planet with the same features, lifeforms, and other aspects once given the planet coordinates, requiring no further data to be stored or retrieved from game servers.

In the fullest meaning of the quote by Isaac Newton, the millennial generation will have the opportunity to see further than ever before, standing on the shoulders of the giants that have come before us. Our video highlights the science and technology driven by advancements in space exploration that have come become before us and describes the opportunities that our generation has to use them for the benefit of humanity.
All the raw video used to make the work is of student projects and events. Enabled by mentors, advisors, and universities around the world college students are already starting to shape the future of space, science, and technology and the clips used are just a few of the many incredible projects being worked on at the University of Colorado Boulder.
The projects and events in the video include, in order of appearance: an astronomy viewing session at the local observatory, the assembly of an International Space Station payload through BioServe Space Technologies, micro-rocket design and testing, the design of a human spacecraft cockpit, a graduate projects course taught by former astronaut Joe Tanner, and public outreach raising awareness of space exploration.
For video footage, filming support, and scripting advice, the team would like to thank the University of Colorado Aerospace Engineering Sciences department, Dr. David Klaus and Joe Tanner (advisors), the Sommers-Bausch Observatory, the BUFFS HL-20 graduate projects team, and BioServe Space Technologies.
