Free at Last (Freeway album)

Free at Last is the second studio album by rapper Freeway. It was released on November 20, 2007 in the United States. The album features production from J. R. Rotem, Needlz, and Cool & Dre, among others. Guest appearances include Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Jadakiss and other notable rappers.

Background

In a recent interview, Freeway stated why he took such a lengthy hiatus. He had this to say:

Free at Last was called "The Album of the Month" by the German hip hop magazine Juice, aiming 5 of 6 "Crowns". In the 01-02 / 2008 Issue (# 104).

Sales

Free at Last debuted at number 42 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling about 36,000 units during its first week. As of April 2, 2008, the album has sold 100,206 copies in the United States.

Free at Last (Free album)

Free at Last is the fifth studio album by English rock band Free. The band had broken up in April 1971 due to differences between singer Paul Rodgers and bassist Andy Fraser but had now reformed.

Recording

All members of the band made a concerted effort to work smoothly and efficiently for guitarist Paul Kossoff's sake as he was suffering due to an addiction to Mandrax (Quaaludes). For example, in a symbolic gesture all tracks were credited to every member of the band regardless of who actually wrote them.

The attitude to the songwriting was also vastly different; there are no outright rock songs at all, and the three songs that contain fast-paced moments all have slower, more introspective moments. Also, many fans have interpreted some of the melancholic lyrics (many of which concern people in some form of emotional distress) as referring to Kossoff.

Reception

The album was reasonably successful, peaking at #9 in the UK album charts making it their most successful UK studio album since Fire and Water. The single release "Little Bit of Love" reached #13; despite failing to enter the top ten it was still their third best selling single release (it would be beaten by "Wishing Well" the following year). The album fared less well in the US, reaching #69; this was still a significant improvement on all previous albums bar Fire and Water.

Yukmouth

Jerold Dwight Ellis III, (born October 18, 1974 in Oakland, California) better known by his stage name Yukmouth, is an American rapper from East Oakland, Oakland, California. He is the founder of The Regime, Smoke-A-Lot Records and Godzilla Entertainment. He is a member of Thug Lordz with C-Bo.

Career

He is a member of the rap duo Luniz along with Numskull. Luniz recorded the weed anthem, "I Got 5 on It". He went on to sign a solo record deal at J-Prince's Rap-a-Lot Records, releasing four albums. His double album debut on the label, entitled Thugged Out: The Albulation went gold. Under his own label, Smoke-a-Lot Records, he has released DVD's and compilation albums, such as the United Ghettos of America series.

Yukmouth is CEO of Smoke-a-Lot Records, which is distributed by Rap-a-Lot Records. The label is home to established artists such as Luniz, Dru Down, Thug Lordz (Yukmouth, C-Bo & Spice 1), The Regime, and Yukmouth himself.
