Palwal district (Hindi: पलवल जिला) is the 21st district of Haryana state in northern India. Palwal city is the headquarters of this district.

The city is situated at a distance of 60 km from Delhi on the Delhi-Mathura highway(NH-2). The latitude of the town is 28° 40' N and longitude is 76° 59' E. The area of town is 22.10 km².^[1]

It is a place of great antiquity, supposed to figure in the earliest Aryan traditions under the name of Apelava, part of the Pandava kingdom of Indraprastha, which was later restored by Vikramaditya.^[2]

Its importance is mainly historical, but it is a centre for the cotton trade in the area. It is the site of a Hindu temple called "Panchvati" which is a great symbol of the religion. Mahatama Gandhi was arrested for the first time at the Palwal station. Palwal Station Have Highest Numbers Of Platforms(8) In Whole Haryana. There are many hospitals like City hospital, Bagla Nursing Home, Manav Kalyan Ultrasound Centre.

Palwal is located at 28°09′N 77°20′E / 28.15°N 77.33°E / 28.15; 77.33.^[3] It has an average elevation of 195 metres (639 ft). It is a city of hospitals and schools. There is Geeta Bhawan located at Kalra Colony Palwal. It has a very big grain market in which trade of wheat and rice takes place and also serves a very large population of not only Haryana but the entire country. It has 25 small & big Institutes teaching for Computer Hardware,Software & Networking.

Ancient times[link]

The city Palwal got its name from a demon, "Palwasur" who ruled this place during the reign of Pandavas. He was killed by Balarama, elder brother of Shri Krishna. In his memory, every year a festival is organised in palwal which is known as "Baldev Chhat Ka Mela". There is also a temple dedicated to Balaram near Municipal Office chowk.Railway Station of Palwal is the place from where Mahatma Gandhi ji were arrested first time.A historical building "Gandhi Ashram" was made in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi
Syed Yusuf Ali Palwali was a noble and rich man from Palwal during the short ruling period of Muhammad Azam Shah and died along with Muhammad Azam Shah on 19 June 1707 at the battle of Jajuwan.^[4][5]

In 17th century, Khan Mohammad from Palwal married his daughter with Qazi Syed Rafi Mohammad. Similarly, the son of Qazi Syed Rafi Mohammad, Mohammad Baqar, was married to Sultan Bibi from Palwal. The daughter of Mohammad Baqar, 'Khairun Nisan' was also married in Palwal to Mohammad Ikram ibn Sultan Mohammad (alias Qazi Mian of Palwal). The daughter of 'Khairun Nisan' and Mohmmad Ikram namely 'Noorun Nisan' was married with Mohammad Mureeed, son of Qazi Syed Hayatullah. Qazi Syed Mohammad Rafi also married in Palwal with Fazal Nisan, daughter of Mohammad Saeed ibn Mohammad Hussain ibn Maulana Abul Khair. These intermarriages show how deep relations were there between Palwal and Sakras.

British Period[link]

During the British period, Palwal was a part of the Punjab Province and a part of Gurgaon district.
Many persons from Palwal participated in the 1857 revolt against the British forces. Hayat Ali and Khairat Ali were martyred along with 17 people from Palwal only. Hayat Ali after arrest from his house was taken to Delhi and hanged. All male members of his family were ordered to be hanged. Large number of arrest warrants were issued. Interestingly, Tahsildar Palwal impersonate as Bangle seller like a Political decoy, went to the house of Hayat Ali, and saved Nazeer Ali (the grandson of Hayat Ali), who was merely 2 years old, inside a basket fully covered by bangles. He then left the child in the jungles of Nageena near Palwal. Ladies from the family of Hayat Ali, followed him, took the child from jungles and with cautious ultimately reached Tijara. Amongst the 17 people who were hanged in Palwal included the son-in-law of Hayat Ali, whose name was Iradat Ali bin Rustam Ali. When British forces chased the other family members from Pinangwan. The brother of Iradat Ali from Pinangwan, namely Karamat Ali could able to survive his life and ran away to Tijara. He latterly changed his name to ‘Zamin Ali’.^[6] gf

Post-independence[link]

On 15 August 1979, Gurgaon district was further divided to form a new Faridabad district, and Palwal became a part of it.^[7] Finally Palwal became the 21st district of Haryana on 15 Augest, 2008.

Palwal is now an education hub. It has 8 Engineering Colleges and other fields are available at those colleges. It has many good schools such as Saraswati Senior Secondary School . About 6 km away from main town there is a "Water Chakki" located at Chajju Nagar made in British Time & working properly from British Time.

A high tricolor was hoisted in Palwal on 24 January 2011 At Town Park By MP Of INC Mr. Naveen Jindal. The tricolor Is 100 ft high.

According to the 2011 census Palwal district has a population of 1,040,493,^[8] roughly equal to the nation of Cyprus^[9] or the US state of Rhode Island.^[10] This gives it a ranking of 436rd in India (out of a total of 640).^[8] The district has a population density of 761 inhabitants per square kilometre (1,970 /sq mi) .^[8] Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was 25.49 %.^[8] Palwal has a sex ratio of 879 females for every 1000 males,^[8] and a literacy rate of 70.3 %.^[8]

As of 2011 India census,^[11] Palwal city had a population of 235663 . Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Palwal has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 65%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 67%. In Palwal, 20% of the population is under 6 years of age.Palwal is the most progressive District in the State of Haryana.

Kundli–Manesar–Palwal Expressway[link]

Delhi Western Peripheral Expressway, or Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway (KMP Expressway), is 135.6 km long Expressway being constructed in Haryana, India[1]. Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway was planned to become operational by June 2009 but may not be ready before 2012. The expressway will act as a Delhi bypass for traffic coming from north of Delhi on NH1 and going to south of Delhi on NH2.
The 135 km long Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Haryana, also known as the Western Peripheral Expressway, has been divided into three sections of 45 km each. Four flyovers are being constructed at places where the expressway crosses national highways, namely, NH1 near Kundli (Sonepat), NH10 near Bahadurgarh, NH8 near Manesar (Gurgaon) and NH2 near Palwal (Faridabad) and State Highway 13 (Gurgaon to Alwar) near Rozka Meo Industrial Area in Mewat District. Sixteen overpasses and underpasses at crossings on state highways and major district roads; seven overpasses, nine underpasses and 27 underpasses at crossings on village roads; and 33 agricultural vehicular underpasses, 31 cattle crossing passages, 61 pedestrian crossing passages, four railway over-bridges, 18 major and minor bridges, cross drainage works (culverts) at 292 locations, and two truck parking and four bus bays will also be constructed. On December 21, 2010, Haryana Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda had an aerial survey of the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway and reviewed the progress of its construction work after that as per Haryana government construction company as assured that the 53 km long stretch of the expressway from Manesar to Palwal will be completed by March 2011.[2] However, the stretch had not opened for traffic even by August 2011.

Robert Vadra is an Indian businessman notable as the husband of Priyanka Vadra and also a member of the Nehru-Gandhi family by marriage. He was born to Rajinder and Maureen Vadra on 18 April 1969. Rajinder Vadra hails from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh and Maureen was of Scottish origin (maiden name: McDonagh).^[1]

Controversies[link]

Vadra has been exempted from frisking at airports when travelling with 'other SPG protectees^[4] presumably his wife or other family members. The list of such VIPs was compiled and forwarded to the concerned authorities by the Government of India on 26 September 2005. Others on the list include the President, the Prime Minister, former Presidents and PMs and SPG protectees.^[5][6] This move has come under scrutiny since more important entities on the warrant of precedence. BCAS Commissioner S. R. Mehra declined comment.^[7]

His bodyguard was prevented from carrying a pistol into Parliament.^[8]

Robert Vadra publicly disowned his father Rajendra Vadra following claims of misuse of Robert's proximity to the Gandhi clan.

Rahul Gandhi ([ˈraːɦʊl ˈɡaːnd̪ʱiː]; born 19 June 1970) is an Indian politician and member of the Parliament of India, representing the Amethi constituency.^[1] Gandhi is the general-secretary of the Indian National Congress.^[2] He is the grandson of Feroze Gandhi and Indira (née Nehru) Gandhi, and fourth-generation scion of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Early life and career[link]

Rahul Gandhi was born in Delhi on 19 June 1970 ^[3] as the first of the two children of Rajiv Gandhi, who later became the Prime Minister of India and Sonia Gandhi, who later became President of Indian National Congress, and as the grandson of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He is also the great-grandson of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Priyanka Vadra is his younger sister.^[4]

Rahul Gandhi attended St. Columba's School, Delhi^[5] before entering The Doon School in Dehradun (Uttarakhand), also his father's alma mater,^[6] from 1981–83. Meanwhile, his father had joined politics and became the Prime Minister on October 31, 1984 when Indira Gandhi was assassinated. Due to the security threats faced by Indira Gandhi's family from Sikh extremists, Rahul Gandhi and his sister, Priyanka were home-schooled since then.^[7] Rahul Gandhi joined St. Stephen's College, Delhi in 1989 for his undergraduate education but moved to Harvard University after he completed the first year examinations.^[8] In 1991, after Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by LTTE^[9] during an election rally, he shifted to Rollins College due to security concerns and completed his B.A. in 1994.^[10] During this period, he assumed the pseudonym Raul Vinci and his identity was known only to the university officials and security agencies.^[8][11] He further went on to obtain a M.Phil from Trinity College, Cambridge University in 1995.^[12] After graduation, Rahul Gandhi worked at the Monitor Group, a management consulting firm, in London.^[13] In 2002 he was one of the directors of Mumbai-based technology outsourcing firm Backops Services Private Ltd.^[14]

Political career[link]

In March 2004, he announced his entry into politics by announcing that he would contest the May 2004 elections, standing for his father's former constituency of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha, India's lower house of Parliament.^[15] The seat had been held by his mother until she transferred to the neighbouring seat of Rae Bareilly. The Congress had been doing poorly in Uttar Pradesh, holding only 10 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state at the time.^[16] At the time, this move generated surprise among political commentators, who had regarded his sister Priyanka as being the more charismatic and likely to succeed. It generated speculation that the presence of a young member of India's most famous political family would reinvigorate the Congress party's political fortunes among India's youthful population^[17] In his first interview with foreign media, he portrayed himself as a uniter of the country and condemned "divisive" politics in India, saying that he would try to reduce caste and religious tensions.^[15]

He won with a landslide majority, retaining the family stronghold with a margin of over 100,000 as the Congress unexpectedly defeated the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.^[18] Until 2006 he held no other office.^[19]

Gandhi and his sister, who is married to Robert Vadra, managed their mother's campaign for re-election to Rae Bareilly in 2006, which was won easily with a margin greater than 400,000 votes.^[20]

He was a prominent figure in the Congress campaign for the 2007 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections; Congress, however, won only 22 seats with 8.53% of votes.^[21]

Rahul Gandhi was appointed a general secretary of the All India Congress Committee on 24 September 2007 in a reshuffle of the party secretariat.^[22] In the same reshuffle, he was also given charge of the Indian Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India.^[23]

In 2008, senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily mentioned “Rahul-as-PM” idea when the PM of India Manmohan Singh was still abroad.^[24]

Youth politics[link]

In his attempt to prove himself as a youth leader in November 2008 he held interviews at his 12, Tughlak Lane residence in New Delhi to handpick at least 40 people who will make up the think-tank of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), an organisation that he has been keen to transform since he was appointed general secretary in September 2007.^[25]

Under Rahul Gandhi, IYC and NSUI has seen a dramatic increase in members from a two lakhs to twenty five lakhs.^[26]

In various reports it has been proved that Rahul Gandhi has failed in his promise to eliminate family, patronage, money from Youth Congress. It has been seen that an aspiring delegates need to pay a substantial sum as nomination fee. Hence, an aspiring office-bearer with deep pockets sponsors them thereby allowing money power to have a role in the elections.^[27][28][29]

2009 elections[link]

In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, he retained his Amethi constituency by defeating his nearest rival by a margin of over 333,000 votes. In these elections congress is said to have revived itself in Uttar Pradesh by winning 21 out of the total 80 Lok Sabha seats and the majority of the credit for this turnaround is given to Rahul Gandhi.^[30] He spoke at 125 rallies across the country in six weeks.

Lokpal bill[link]

Rahul Gandhi opines that the Lokpal should be made a constitutional body and it should be made accountable to the Parliament, just like the Election Commission. He also feels that Lokpal alone cannot root out corruption. This statement came out on 25 August 2011, on the 10th day of Anna Hazare's fast. This statement was considered as a delaying tactic by the opposition and Team Anna's members. It was consequently slammed by prominent opposition leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley.^[31] The Parliamentary Standing Committee led by Abhishek Manu Singhvi tabled the Lok Bill report in the Rajya Sabha on 9 December 2011. Almost all points proposed by Team Anna were ignored while Rahul Gandhi's wish for Lokpal to be made into a constitutional body was implemented. Anna Hazare believes that Rahul Gandhi is responsible for the weak and ineffective bill proposed by the standing committee of parliament.^[32]

Land Acquisition Protests Arrest[link]

On 11 May 2011 Rahul Gandhi was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police at Bhatta Parsaul village after he turned out in support of agitating farmers demanding more compensation for their land being acquired for a highway project.^[33] He was released after being held for about three hours and later returned to New Delhi. He was to be presented before a Sub-Divisional Magistrate on 12 May 2011.^[34]

2012 Assembly elections[link]

Rahul Gandhi campaigned extensively in the 2012 Assembly elections, especially in the highly politically crucial state of Uttar Pradesh (UP) in the hope that his popularity would help bring Congress back to power. However, the party did very poorly in the elections winning only 38 seats, a meagre increase of six seats from the 2007 elections^[35]. The Samajwadi Party and its new leader, Akhilesh Yadav swept the elections in UP, and Mr Yadav was sworn as the youngest Chief Minister of UP. The Congress party suffered humiliating defeats in other states (Goa and Punjab), and a close shave in Uttarahakhand. With only one win in the state of Manipur, the Indian press was quick to question the future of Mr Gandhi as the leader of the Congress party.^[36]

Comparison of RSS and SIMI[link]

Rahul Gandhi has been critical of nationalist groups like the RSS and compared them to terrorist organizations like SIMI.^[37][38] According to a cable leaked by Wikileaks, in 2009, he allegedly shared concerns with the American ambassador to India Timothy Roemer that radicalized Hindu groups may pose a bigger threat to India than Islamic terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba.^[39][40] His comments on radical Hindu groups were criticized by the opposition party, as well as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.^[41]

Sukanya Devi[link]

It has been alleged that Rahul Gandhi had detained a girl and her parents since 2007 after the family accused the Gandhi scion of raping the girl. On 01st Mar 2011, the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi,^[42] however the allegations were found to be false. Allahabad high court not only dismissed the case after the girl in question appeared in the court, but slapped a 50 lakh penalty against the petitioner ordering a CBI inquiry against her and websites publishing the story.^[43]

13th Jul 2011 Terror Attack remarks[link]

On 14th Jul 2011, a day after the serial bombing in Mumbai, Rahul Gandhi gave a statement that "it was very difficult to stop every single terror attack". The remark resulted in a number of strong criticism from a number of Shiv Sena party members.^[44]

Om Prakash Chautala (born 1 January 1935) is an Indian politician from the state of Haryana and the leader of the Indian National Lok Dal political party. He is a former Chief Minister of Haryana. Presently, he is the Leader of Opposition in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha.

Chautala is the son of Chaudhari Devi Lal, a former deputy prime minister of India. He was born in a Jaat family of Sihag gotra.^[1][2] He was the Chief Minister of Haryana from 2 December 1989 to 2 May 1990, from 12 July 1990 to 17 July 1990, again from 22 March 1991 to 6 April 1991 and finally from 24 July 1999 to 4 March 2005. Meham was perhaps.............. his biggest political controversy, which brought him into national attention. The shadow of Meham was to dog him right up to 1996, when the Justice K.N. Saikia Commission indicted him as an accessory after the fact in the killing of Amir Singh.^[6]

Chautala has been accused of protecting the then Director General of Police, SPS Rathore in the Ruchika Girhotra child molestation case. The matter, as of now, is sub-judice.^[7]

Indicting the former Chief Minister, his two sons, Abhay and Ajay, and their wives for amassing disproportionate assets worth Rs 1,467 crore, the CBI has filed a chargesheet in a Delhi Court. The CBI has submitted that Om Prakash Chautala and his family acquired more than 80 properties in different parts of India from 1993 to 2006.^[8]

Om Parkash Chautala is also accused in number of other cases including the much publicised JBT Scam. The CBI filed Chargesheet, as per which in the year 1999–2000, 3032 teachers were recruited by the former CM and his son Ajay Chautala along with the other accused on the basis of forged documents. The matter was registered by the CBI on the direction of the Supreme Court and the CBI seized documents and properties in lakhs from various places.^[9]

Om Parkash Chautala is accused by his opponents to amass wealth using the official position.^[10] He was presented numerous costly presents including crowns ans Gold Brick.^[11]

He is said to have owner of one new entertainment channel^[12]

Om Prakash (19 December 1919 – 21 February 1998) was an Indian character actor. He was born in Jammu as Om Prakash Chibber. He used to play the role of Kamla in the stage play by the famous Dewan Mandir Natak Samaj Koliwada. Starting his career in 1942, he was a popular supporting actor from the 1950s until the 1980s. He was one of the elite of the film industry. Some of his performances were so memorable that the lead actor in the film attributed the success of the film to him.

Om Prakash played the leading man in films like Dus Lakh, Annadata and Charandas 'Sadhu aur Shaitan'. His pivotal roles in the films Dil Daulat Duniya, Chupke Chupke, Julie, Joroo Ka Ghulam, Aa Gale Lag Jaa, Pyar Kiye Jaa and Buddha Mil Gaya are considered to be among his best along with Daddu in Namak Halaal and De Silva in Zanjeer. His roles in 'Sharabi', 'Bharosa', 'Tere Ghar Ke Samne', 'Mere Humdum Mere Dost', 'Loafar', 'Dil Tera Diwana' were also appreciated.

He is known for his roles in comedy films. One of his best performances in his later years were Naukar Biwi Ka, Sharaabi (1984) and Chameli Ki Shaadi, where he played a role that was pivotal for the movie.

Early life and education[link]

Om Prakash Chibber was born in Jammu on 19 December 1919? He was fascinated by theatre, music and films. He started taking lessons in classical music when he was just twelve and was recognised as a master in no time.

Career[link]

He joined All India Radio in 1937 on a monthly salary of Rs 25. He was known as “Fateh Din”, a radio personality and his programmes made him popular all over Lahore and Punjab.

He was regaling people at a wedding one day when the well-known film-maker Dalsukh Pancholi spotted him and asked to see him in his Lahore office. Pancholi gave Prakash his first break as an actor in a film called Daasi. He was paid only Rs 80 but the film earned him the kind of recognition that would give him a means of livelihood for a lifetime. It was his first major role; he had played a bit role in Sharif Badmash, a silent film. He followed his good work in Daasi with Pancholi’s Dhamki and Aayee Bahar and became a force to reckon with.

Soon after the Partition he came to Delhi and then to Bombay (now Mumbai). Baldev Raj Chopra noticed his talent when he was a film journalist and critic; he urged Prakash to carry on with his acting career. He was sure Om Prakash had the talent to prove himself as a versatile actor. The actor had to face some struggle initially. He got his first big break in Bombay as a villain in a film called Lakhpati. It won him acclaim and got him more “meaty” roles in films like Lahore, Char Din and Raat Ki Rani. It was during this phase in his career that he did Azaad with Dilip Kumar, Sargam with Raj Kapoor and Miss Mary, Bahar, Pehli Jhalak, Asha and Manmauji with Kishore Kumar followed by Howrah Bridge with Ashok Kumar and then Tere Ghar Ke Samne with Dev Anand. He was marked out for his performance in both films in spite of the presence of powerful star personas like Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Dev Anand. He had developed a style of his own, a style which was going to take him places, make him a big name in the world of film entertainment for the next forty years.
