WABC-TV, channel 7, is the flagship station of the Disney-owned American Broadcasting Company located in New York City. The station's studios and offices are located on the Upper West Side section of Manhattan, adjacent to ABC's corporate headquarters, and its transmitter is atop the Empire State Building.

WABC-TV is best known in broadcasting circles for its highly successful version of the Eyewitness News format and for its morning show Live with Kelly, syndicated nationally by corporate cousin Disney-ABC Domestic Television.

At 12:30 P.M. on June 12, 2009, WABC-TV discontinued regular analog programming on channel 7. The station returned from channel 45 to channel 7. Initially, over-the-air digital signals from WABC were difficult to receive in NYC. The explanation given is that WABC was requested by FCC to broadcast at less power; WABC is among many stations which have found it necessary to increase power to restore coverage to the same level as its old analog signal. On June 29, 2009, WABC did file an application to the FCC to increase power from 11.69 kW to 27 kW. At this time,^[when?] it has yet to be granted. On January 31, 2010, the FCC granted an STA for the station to increase power to 26.9 kW.

Samuel James "Sam" Champion (born August 13, 1961) is the weather anchor of ABC's Good Morning America and weather editor of ABC News.

Champion was born in Paducah, Kentucky to Sylvia and James H. Champion. He has one sibling, a sister name Teresa. His father, who passed away in 2010, was a Lt. Colonel in the US Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. Sam has a B.A. in broadcast news from Eastern Kentucky University, where he interned at WKYT-TV in Lexington, Kentucky.

Champion is a veteran of ABC. He was also a veteran weatherman for WABC-TV's Eyewitness News in the New York City media market since 1988, and has continued to do fill-in work on WABC-TV since taking the network job full-time. He currently works on Good Morning America as a weatherman, making reportedly $1.5 million per year. He was also seen on a segment of World News with Diane Sawyer on January 4, 2010. On April 7, 2012, he debuted as host of Sea Rescue, an educational and informational program in Litton's Weekend Adventure that focuses on the rescue, rehabilitation, and in many instances release of animals back into wildlife.

Diana Williams (born 1958) is an American television journalist. She is a news anchor at WABC television in New York City, New York, where she co-anchors, with Sade Baderinwa, the one-hour 5 p.m. Eyewitness News broadcast; and hosts the Sunday morning public-affairs program Eyewitness News Up Close with Diana Williams, which airs on Sunday mornings at 11 a.m.

She graduated from Duke University, located in Durham, North Carolina, in 1980 with a degree in economics.

After interning at WTVD in Durham, Williams began her television career in Charlottee, North Carolina, where she worked as a reporter at WSOC and then as a weeknight anchor at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. at WBTV. From 1987 to 1991, she worked at WNEV (now WHDH) in Boston, Massachusetts.

William joined WABC in 1991 as a reporter and eventually became a weekend anchor. Within a year, she was a co-anchor of the station's 11 p.m. Eyewitness News newscast with Bill Beutel. In 1999, Williams joined Beutel on the 6 p.m. newscast as well, becoming Beutel's first co-anchor at 6 p.m. since the departure of Roger Grimsby in 1986.

William Charles Beutel (December 12, 1930 – March 18, 2006) was an American television reporter, journalist and anchor. He was best known for working over four decades with the American Broadcasting Company, spending much of that time anchoring newscasts for WABC-TV in New York City.

Beutel graduated from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire after a stint in the Army and studied law at the University of Michigan Law School, though he left Michigan without obtaining his law degree. While Beutel was in law school, he wrote Edward R. Murrow a letter saying, "I very much wanted to be a radio journalist." Beutel received a letter back advising him to go to the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. His first radio job was in Cleveland before moving to CBS Radio in New York City in 1957.^{[citation needed]}

Beutel moved to ABC on October 22, 1962 as a reporter with ABC News and as anchor at the network's New York flagship, WABC-TV. The station had just opened up its first newsroom and created a one-hour 6:00 p.m. newscast called The Big News. WABC-TV was considered late to the game behind WNBC-TV and WCBS-TV. Among the hundreds of famous personages who were interviewed by Beutel was the African American Muslim and black nationalist leader Malcolm X. Beutel left his WABC duties for two years in April 1968 to join ABC News full time as their London bureau chief.
