Catch Mustang | Premium & Responsive WordPress Theme Instruction

Catch Mustang is an elegant, responsive and customizable WordPress theme built on HTML5 and CSS3. It is an ideal theme for showcasing your portfolio, photo galleries, services and testimonials. This theme has a great line of features such as custom post types, custom header title, description for page, post and category, custom background, custom logo and favicons, custom meta box, advanced image / post featured slider, custom widgets, advanced theme options and is translation ready.

This Theme Instruction is only for Catch Mustang Theme Version 2.0 onwards. If you are using old theme then please refer to old theme instructions at http://catchthemes.com/theme-instructions/catch-mustang-below-version-2-0/.

Installation using the WordPress Administration Panel

You can download Themes directly to your blog by using the Add New Themes option in the Appearance sub-menu.

  1. Download Catch Mustang from your Catch Themes member My-Account to your Desktop
  2. Log in to the WordPress Administration Panel
  3. Click on “Appearance => Themes => Install Themes”
  4. Click on “Uploads” and browse the downloaded file catch-mustang.zip from the desktop where you have it downloaded
  5. Then Click on “Install Now” to install the Theme

Manual Installation using FTP

To add a new Theme to your WordPress installation, follow these basic steps:

  1. Download Catch Mustang from your Catch Themes member My-Account to your Desktop
  2. Unzip catch-mustang.zip to your Desktop
  3. Using an FTP client to access your host web server. Go to /wp-content/themes/ and make sure that you do not already have a catch-mustang folder installed. If you do, then back it up and remove it from /wp-content/themes/ before uploading your copy of Catch Mustang
  4. Upload Catch Mustang to /wp-content/themes/
  5. Activate Catch Mustang through the “Appearance => Themes”, in your WordPress Dashboard

Updating Theme Using the Administration Panel

You can update Themes directly from the Administration Panel

  1. Download the latest version of Catch Mustang from your Catch Themes member My-Account to your Desktop
  2. Log in to the WordPress Administration Panel
  3. Go to “Appearance => Themes”
  4. Now activate any default theme free theme link Catch Everest
  5. Delete the old version of Catch Mustang theme
  6. Then you can install the latest version of Catch Mustang following the new Theme installation process
  7. Go to “Appearance => Themes => Install Themes => Uploads”
  8. Browse the downloaded file catch-mustang.zip from your computer where you earlier downloaded it
  9. Then click on “Install Now” to install the Theme

Updating Theme Using FTP

To update Theme though FTP, follow these basic steps:

  1. Download the latest version of Catch Mustang from your Catch Themes member a href=”http://catchthemes.com/my-account/” title=”My Account” target=”_blank”>My-Account to your Desktop
  2. Unzip catch-mustang.zip to your Desktop
  3. Using an FTP client to access your host web server, go to /wp-content/themes/ and upload your new copy of Catch Mustang Theme which shall replace the old files

Always Set Featured Images

This theme relies heavily on Featured Images. If your post is missing a Featured Image, the post image will not show up on the homepage or on archive pages and other pages as well. Read more about Featured Images

Regenerate Thumbnails

If you have just changed your theme then you need to regenerate image thumbnail for post published before activating this theme. You can simply install Regenerate Thumbnails Plugin. Then Regenerate Thumbnails through the Tools -> Regen. Thumbnails in your WordPress Dashboard.

Widgets

Catch Mustang currently have 12 widgetized area (Sidebar) and 9 custom widgets.

  1. Homepage Top Sidebar:
    • Shows widgets at homepage body top part.
    • Suitable for Catchthemes: Featured Page and Catchthemes: Featured Post widgets.
  2. Homepage Left Sidebar:
    • Shows widgets at homepage body left part.
    • Suitable for Catchthemes: Featured Page and Catchthemes: Featured Post widgets.
  3. Homepage Right Sidebar:
    • Shows widgets at homepage body right part.
    • Suitable for Catchthemes: Featured Gallery and Catchthemes: Featured Portfolio widgets.
  4. Homepage Blog Sidebar:
    • Shows widgets at homepage.
    • This replaces the default sidebar is any widget is active in this sidebar.
  5. General Sidebar:
    • This is the default sidebar which is show in left or right side of page.
  6. Contact Page Sidebar:
    • Shows widgets in sidebar in contact page template. In contact page select the Sidebar layout as Contact page template
    • Suitable for Catchthemes: Featured Map Location widget.
  7. Testimonials Sidebar:
    • Shows widgets in sidebar in custom post type “Testimonials” archive and page.
  8. Services Sidebar:
    • Shows widgets in sidebar in custom post “Services” page.
  9. Portfolio Sidebar:
    • Shows widgets in sidebar in custom post “Portfolio” page.
  10. Footer Sidebars:
    • There are three sidebar in Footer. Left Footer Sidebar, Middle Footer Sidebar and Right Footer Sidebar.
    • If you add widgets in only one footer sidebar then that footer sidebar will take 100% of the width
    • If you add widgets in two footer sidebars then each footer sidebar will take 50% of the width
    • If you add widgets in all three footer sidebars then it will take 33.33% each.

Menus

This theme supports “Custom Menus”. You can create Custom Menu through the “Appearance => Menus” page in your WordPress Dashboard. Don’t forget to select your custom menu as Primary Menu to show it as the main menu. Read More

Custom Background

Custom background is another great feature of WordPress that is supported in Base. You can change the background through “Appearance => Background” in your WordPress Dashboard.

Theme Options

You can customize the theme using the cool addition featured through the “Appearance => Theme Options” page in your WordPress Dashboard.

Responsive Design

Catch Mustang is responsive WordPress theme that automatically adapts to the screen’s size, ensuring that your content is always displayed beautifully no matter what device visitors are using.

But if you don’t want the design to change as per the devices then you can disable the Responsive Design though “Appearance => Theme Options => Responsive Design” in your WordPress Dashboard.

How to add/change logo on Header?

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options” in your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Click on Header Logo Options. You can see the default logo previews.
  3. Now click on Change Header Logo to change the Header Logo.
  4. Browse the Logo image from desired location and upload it.
  5. Once the upload in completed. Then click on insert into the Post.
  6. Click on Save Changes button. Now you can see the previews.

How to disable header logo, site title and site description?

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options” in your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Click on Header Logo Options. You can see the option to disable any of these.
  3. Check to disable it
  4. Click on Save Changes button.

How to disable header search form?

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options” in your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Click on Header Search Form Option. You can see the option to disable it.
  3. Check to disable and Click on Save button.

How to add/change Favicon?

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options” in your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Click on Fav Icon Options. You can see the default fav icon preview.
  3. Now click on Change Fav Icon button.
  4. Browse the fav icon image from desired location and upload it.
  5. Once the upload in completed. Then select “Full Size” and click on “Insert into Post” button.
  6. Click on Save Changes button. Now you can see the preview.

How to add/change Web Clip Icons?

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options” in your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Click on Web Clip Options.
  3. Now click on Upload Web Clip Icon button.
  4. Browse the Web Clip icon image from desired location and upload it.
  5. Once the upload in completed. Then select “Full Size” and click on “Insert into Post” button.
  6. Click on Save Changes button. Now you can see the preview.

Color Options

Catch Mustang has 10 color picker options and 1 custom background options though which you can change the color and background of the theme. To change the color click on “Appearance => Theme Options => Color Options” in your WordPress Dashboard.

How to change Font Family?

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options => Font Family” Options in your WordPress Dashboard
  2. You can see the default font family. Do the necessary changes in fonts and Click on Save Changes button

Default Layout

Catch Mustang has 5 Default Layout Options to choose from: 1. Right Sidebar, 2. Left Sidebar, 3. No Sidebar, 4. No Sidebar, Full Width, and 5. No Sidebar, One Column. You can customize through “Appearance => Theme Options => Default Layout” from your WordPress Dashboard. Further, you can select custom layout for individual page and post through “Select Sidebar Layout” meta box below the post and page editor.

How to Redirect feed to Feedburner / or any other URL?

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options” in your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Click on Feed Redirect and add in the URL in which you want your feed to redirect.
  3. Click on Save Changes button.

How to change the Excerpt Length?

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options” in your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Click on Excerpt / More Tag Settings and type in the Number of Words
  3. Click on Save Changes button.

Header Content Options

Header Content are the special fields created to add Title and Description that you add will appear just below the menu.

You can add the Header title and descriptions for Homepage, Services, Gallery, Testimonial and Portfolio through “Appearance => Theme Options => Custom Header Content Options”. You can add it for individual Page and Post through “Header Title and Description” meta box below the post and page editor. You can also add for Category through “Posts => Categories”

Twitter Feed Slider Options

This option is not working at this time due to changes made by Twitter. So, just disable it for now. Sorry for the inconvenience. Will update it soon.
Catch mustang comes with cool features to show twitter feeds just above the footer in the site. You can just setup through “Appearance => Theme Options => Twitter Feed Slider Options” in your WordPress Dashboard.

Footer Editor: How to change/delete Footer Credit Text?

Footer editor is a cool option that let you change or delete the footer credit text. You can change the footer text through the “Appearance => Theme Options => Edit Footer Options” in your WordPress Dashboard.

Custom CSS

CSS is a great design code that lets you change any elements design. This Custom CSS box help you to customize the theme without building child while maintaining the changes even after updates.

You can add your custom CSS that will overwrite the theme CSS for further more design customization through the “Appearance => Theme Options => Custom CSS” in your WordPress Dashboard.

Homepage Sidebar Options

Catch Mustang has the ability to disable the sidebars in the homepage. You can disable all three homepage sidebar or any one from home top sidebar, home left sidebar and home right sidebar.

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options => Homepage Options” in your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Click on Homepage Sidebar Options. Then check to disable the sidebar you want.
  3. Click on Save Changes button.

How to enable latest posts in Homepage?

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options => Homepage Settings” in your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Click on Homepage/Frontpage Settings. Then check “Click to Enable Latest Posts or Page”
  3. Click on Save Changes button

How to set certain categories to display in Homepage/Frontpage?

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options => Homepage Settings” in your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Click on Homepage/Frontpage Settings.
  3. Then select the categories you want. You may select multiple categories by holding down the CTRL key
  4. Click on Save Changes Button

How to add static page/post instead of latest posts in Homepage?

  1. First follow the above instruction to enable the latest posts in Homepage
  2. Then in Homepage/Frontpage Settings, click on “Click here to set static front page instead of latest posts”
  3. This will take you to Reading Setting page, where you have to select “A static page (select below)” from Front page displays options
  4. Then from the select the page in Front page
  5. Click on Save Changes Changes button

Featured Slider

Catch Mustang supports 4 different Featured Sliders to choose from 1. Featured Post Slider, 2. Featured Page Slider, 3. Featured Category Slider, and 4. Featured Image Slider.

Featured Post Slider:
Features post slider is created to highlight your post in the slider. So, first you need to create a post and then add featured image in the post. Then you should remember your post ID and follow the following steps.

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options => Featured Slider” from your WordPress Dashboard
  2. Click on “Slider Options”, then click on Featured Post Slider
  3. Click on Featured Post Slider Options and add in the Post ID’s in Featured Slider Post#1, #2 and #3 respective input boxes.
  4. Click on Save Changes button

Note:
* When you add the Post Id’s, make sure you have added in the Featured Image in your Post. Read more about Featured Images
* Find Post ID: When you edit your post or write a post, you will see the id in your browser address bar. You can also view your Post ID though All Post page in WordPress Dashboard. But if you cannot find it then you can use this plugin to view it http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/catch-ids/

Features page slider is created to highlight your page in the slider. So, first you need to create a page and then add featured image in the page. Then you should remember your Page ID and follow the following steps.

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options => Featured Slider” from your WordPress Dashboard
  2. Click on “Slider Options”, then click on Featured Page Slider
  3. Click on Featured Page Slider Options and add in the Page ID’s in Featured Slider Page#1, #2 and #3 respective input boxes.
  4. Click on Save Changes button

Note:
* When you add the Page Id’s, make sure you have added in the Featured Image in your Page. Read more about Featured Images
* Find Page ID: When you edit your post or write a page, you will see the id in your browser address bar. You can also view your Page ID though All Pages page in WordPress Dashboard. But if you cannot find it then you can use this plugin to view it http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/catch-ids/

Featured Category Slider:
Features category slider is created to highlight your posts in particular category. So, first you need to create various posts, add featured image in the post and assign it in particular category. Then you should remember your Category Name and follow the following steps.

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options => Featured Slider” from your WordPress Dashboard
  2. Click on “Slider Options”, then click on Featured Category Slider
  3. Click on Featured Category Slider Options and select the category
  4. Click on Save Changes button

Note:
* Make sure you have added in the Featured Image in your Posts in categories. Read more about Featured Images

Featured Image Slider:
Features image slider is created to highlight independent image in the slider. This slider give you full control to upload your own independent image, options title and content, optional link and target. Just use the following simple steps to add in the featured image slider.

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options => Featured Slider” from your WordPress Dashboard
  2. Click on “Slider Options”, then click on Featured Image Slider
  3. Click on Featured Image Slider Options
  4. Then upload the images, add in the tile, content, link and target as needed
  5. Click on Save Changes button

Social Media Icons

Catch Mustang has custom social icons for various social networking sites. You can activate the social icons you want by adding in the Social Profile Link through “Appearance => Theme Options => Social Links” in your WordPress Dashboard.

Webmaster Tools

Catch Mustang supports Webmaster Tools and Scripts. You can verify your site in Google, Yahoo and Bing by adding in the IDs in the respective box through “Appearance => Theme Options => Webmaster Tools” from your WordPress Dashboard. Further, you can add in the Google Analytic, Add this and other scripts in header and footer without editing any code through Webmaster Tools.

How to insert Site Verification IDs?

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options => Webmaster Tools => Site Verification” from your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Enter the Google, Yahoo, Bling Site Verification ID respectively for which you want to verify your site.
  3. Click on Save Changes button.

How to insert Analytics / Other scripts in Header / Footer?

  1. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options => Webmaster Tools => Header and Footer Codes” from your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Here you can put different scripts like, google, facebook etc.
  3. Enter the script on upper textarea which you want to load on header.
  4. Enter the script on lower textarea which you want to load on footer.
  5. Click on Save Changes button.

Custom Post Types

Catch Mustang has four Custom Post Types.

  1. Testimonials:
    • You can add testimonials in the testimonial custom post type.
    • The title will be the name of the person, content will be the testimonial and you can also add the position and company of the person in the Tile and Company metabox.
    • You can also show the testimonials in sidebar by simply dragging the Catchthemes: Show Testimonials widget to the Sidebar.
  2. Services:
    • You can also add services as custom post type.
    • The archive page for the services post type has a unique design.
  3. Galleries:
    • You can add many galleries as custom post type.
    • The archive page for the galleries post type has a unique design.
    • It shows the featured image of the post and the title only.
    • You can upload as many images in every post.
    • Then add shortcode in the post content.
    • Now after you click on the featured image of the post in the archive page.
    • You will see all those images.
    • You can also see these image in large size by click above them which appears in a beautiful fancy box. You can view other images in this fancy box by click on the next and previous navigation button.
  4. Portfolio:
    • You can add portfolio as custom post type.
    • The archive page for the portfolio post type has a unique design.
    • It show the featured image of all posts and their title as well.
    • Now, after you click on the featured image of the post, it will be displayed in a beautiful fancy box. You can view other images in this fancy box by click on the next and previous navigation button.

Embed multimedia into Posts or Pages

For externally hosted videos (for example a YouTube or Vimeo video), you can directly paste the link of your video page into the content editor. You do not have to paste the embed code. WordPress will automatically embed the video from the link.
