Dean Amasinger (born 9 March 1984) is an English professional mixed martial artist, who goes by the nickname "Renegade". He was a cast member of SpikeTV's , and reached the first round.
Biography
Amasinger was a promising
rugby player, but his career was cut short by injury. He then began studying at
Nottingham University, where he earned a degree in
biochemistry. There, he met
Dan Hardy and
Paul Daley, two leading British mixed martial artists, and joined
Team Rough House. He made his professional debut against Wayne Murrie on 9 December 2006 at
Cage Warriors: Enter The Rough House in
Nottingham, and was knocked out early in the second round. The following year, he returned to the cage, fighting David Faulkner at
Enter The Rough House 5 on 8 December 2007. This time he won after his opponent was disqualified for an illegal heel hook. After a disappointing first two fights, he won all three of his fights in 2008.
The Ultimate Fighter
He then tried out for
in October of the same year. He made it on to the show and faced off against
Alex Reid at the
Wolfslair MMA Academy in the preliminary round. He eventually won by decision after three rounds. After this, he joined Team United Kingdom which was coached by
Michael Bisping. He made it through to the welterweight division quarter-finals, where he was submitted by
DaMarques Johnson in the first round.
Post TUF
His first fight after the
Ultimate Fighter, against Scott Jansen, took place at
Ultimate Challenge UK: Dynamite on 24 October 2009 in
London. Amasinger won the fight by submission in the first round.
He then faced
Maciej Górski later that year (on 11 December) at
KSW XII in
Warsaw,
Poland, which he again won by submission.
On 6 February 2010, Amasinger fought for the
Ultimate Challenge Welterweight Championship, against Alberto Mina, eventually losing due to strikes in the third round.
He bounced back with a win over Jamaine Facey at
Unbelievable and is expected to rematch Alberto Mina for the UCMMA Welterweight Championship.
Amasinger then challenged for the UCMMA championship for the second time at
Face Off against
John Maguire but he lost by submission in the second round.
On April 2nd, 2011 he lost by unanimous decision to Matt MacGrath at , the first MMA event ever to be held in Ontario, Canada.
Personal life
Amasinger and his fiancee had their first child, a daughter named Freya, in August 2010. The couple is getting married in October 2011.
