Robert Ray "Rod" Roddy (September 28, 1937 – October 27, 2003) was an American radio and television announcer. He was primarily known for his role as an offstage announcer on game shows. Among the shows that he announced are the CBS game shows Whew! and Press Your Luck. He is widely recognized by the signature line, "Come on down!" from The Price Is Right, and it appears on his grave marker, although the phrase was originated and made popular by his predecessor Johnny Olson. Roddy succeeded original announcer Johnny Olson on The Price is Right and held the role from 1986 until his death in 2003, and as of 2015, is the longest-serving announcer on the current incarnation of the show. On many episodes of Press Your Luck and The Price is Right, Roddy appeared on camera. Roddy was also the voice of Mike the microphone on Disney's House of Mouse from 2001 to 2003.
After graduating from Texas Christian University (TCU), Roddy began his professional broadcasting career as a disc jockey and talk show host on KLIF and KNUS-FM (Dallas, Texas). He also worked overnights and mid-days at the Buffalo, New York radio station WKBW AM, a big-signal station covering the Eastern Seaboard of the United States, and at other high-profile stations. Returning to KLIF and KNUS during the 1970s, Roddy hosted a call-in program, "Rod Roddy's Hotline," whose controversial host and topics made him a frequent target of death threats. He conducted a long-running on-air feud with an elderly woman (dubbed "Granny Hate" by an earlier host), who claimed to represent the local Ku Klux Klan.
The Price Is Right is a television game show franchise originally produced by Mark Goodson and Bill Todman, and created by Bob Stewart, and is currently produced and owned by FremantleMedia. The franchise centers on television game shows, but also includes merchandise such as video games, printed media and board games. The franchise began in 1956 as a television game show hosted by Bill Cullen and was revamped in 1972. This version was originally hosted by Bob Barker. Since 2007, Drew Carey has hosted the program.
In the show, contestants compete to win cash and prizes by guessing the pricing of merchandise. The program has been critically successful and remains a stalwart in the television ratings. It also managed to break away from the quiz show format that has been used in other game shows. Since the current version premiered, it has also been adapted in several international formats around the world, most notably in the United Kingdom, Australia and Mexico.
In 2013, TV Guide ranked it #5 in its list of the 60 greatest game shows ever.

Come on Down is the debut EP by the American rock band Green River. It was released in May 1985 through Homestead Records. It is widely considered to be the first grunge record.
The EP was recorded in December 1984 at Crow Studios in Seattle, Washington. The band worked with producer Chris Hanzsek. Cited by many as being the very first grunge record, Come on Down pre-dated both the legendary C/Z Records compilation Deep Six and the Melvins' debut album. This record also marks Green River's only record with original guitarist Steve Turner (later of Mudhoney). Turner left the group due to his distaste with bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard's heavy metal leanings. The record was released to little fanfare, and did not sell well. Bradley Torreano of Allmusic called it "a worthwhile listen but not something that points towards the bright futures that its band members would enjoy." It contains the first recording of the song "Swallow My Pride", a song describing a lover's disdain for his girlfriend's feverish American patriotism, which was later re-recorded for the band's debut album, Rehab Doll.
When Rod Roddy would announce your name to "Come on Down" on The Price is Right, it was called a "Call Down." ("You're the next contestant on The Price is Right!") Here is a humorous series of Rod's famous calls - and an appearance from Rod as an "Exotic Dancer" on one of their "Showcase Showdowns." He was one-of-a-kind; an integral part of the show... and a very funny man.

Rod Roddy as "Rodweena," the winner of a beauty contest in one of the "Showcase Showdowns" on The Price is Right. Rod had a ball performing this stunt. He loved adding humor to the show. I was lucky enough to be with him in his dressing room and on stage this day. A loyal, true, extremely generous friend.
A video tribute to Rod Roddy, a Price is Right announcer who was diagnosed with colon and breast cancer. Using my creativity and a tribute track, I made clips from various years of The Price is Right using his voice as he calls contestants to come on down and calls out several prizes, as if he was the announcer from year one to the current year.
Whoops! I forgot to post the #TBT on Thursday, so here you go! Monday's episode of "The Price is Right" had Rod Roddy mentioned on a contestant's T-shirt, and I have this clip in the archives, so let's just put this up here.

It's February 17, 1986, and Rod Roddy has been named the newest announcer of the Price is Right! I, for one, was more accustomed to Roddy's run as announcer. Bodie J. Jones, native of Elberton, Georgia traveled to Los Angeles to just see Bob Barker on the Price Is Right but ended up hearing Rod Roddy say, "Bodie Jones, come on down. You're the next contestant on the Price is Right". Then he went all the way to the showcase showdown but overbid by a very small amount. Oh well. The video is a hoot anyway.
