Lonicera japonica, the Japanese honeysuckle or suikazura (スイカズラ/吸い葛 in Japanese; jinyinhua in Chinese; 忍冬 in Chinese and Japanese) is a species of honeysuckle native to eastern Asia including China, Japan and Korea. It is a twining vine able to climb up to 10 metres (33 ft) high or more in trees, with opposite, simple oval leaves 3–8 centimetres (1.2–3.1 in) long and 2–3 centimetres (0.79–1.18 in) broad. The flowers are double-tongued, opening white and fading to yellow, and sweetly vanilla scented. The fruit is a black spherical berry 3–4 millimetres (0.12–0.16 in) diameter containing a few seeds.
It is an invasive species in a number of countries.
This species is often sold by American nurseries as the cultivar 'Hall's Prolific' (Lonicera japonica var. halliana). It is an effective groundcover, and has pleasant, strong-smelling flowers. It can be cultivated by seed, cuttings, or layering. In addition, it will spread itself via shoots if given enough space to grow.
Honeysuckles (Lonicera, /lɒˈnɪsərə/;syn. Caprifolium Mill.) are arching shrubs or twining bines in the family Caprifoliaceae, native to the Northern Hemisphere. Approximately 180 species of honeysuckle have been identified. About 100 of these species can be found in China and approximately 20 native species have been identified in Europe, 20 in India, and 20 in North America. Widely known species include Lonicera periclymenum (honeysuckle or woodbine), Lonicera japonica (Japanese honeysuckle, white honeysuckle, or Chinese honeysuckle) and Lonicera sempervirens (coral honeysuckle, trumpet honeysuckle, or woodbine honeysuckle). Hummingbirds are attracted to the flowers on some of these plants, especially L. sempervirens and L. ciliosa (orange honeysuckle). Honeysuckle gets its name because edible sweet nectar can be sucked from the flowers. The name Lonicera stems from Adam Lonicer, a Renaissance botanist.

Thanks to my daughters family. the Invasive Japanese honeysuckle vine has been cut down in no time. I would have never been able to do this on my own. I am so grateful for this help. But, cutting it down is not the end to the story. I am going to try to suffocate the roots. To stop re growth. I used a little model I got from a Japanese vending machine of Shock from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" to make a silly little stop-motion film back in 2005. If you're looking for a decent storyline and/or top-rate visuals, then I'm sad to say that you've reached an empty cul de sac. Guest appearances from Oogie Boogie, Toastman and my bun-bun Honeysuckle (or Kimu as he is generally known). I hope you enjoy the effort taken to stop-motion-animate my rabbit's head.

The plant I selected in the video was a Coprosma 'Pacific Night' an impulsive buy to brighten up someones doorstep display. It looks great in position, but my RHS Plants and Flowers book gives it a hardiness rating of 0 degrees to -5 degrees, so a piece of gardening fleece may be required for those cold nights. This is fine, but I do prefer using plants fully adapted to our climate - it makes things much easier! But as I say - It does look great on the doorstep! Other plants I bought were inspired by my own videos ! - encouraging others to think of winter fragrance, encouraged me to buy some Winter Honeysuckle and also fragrance for the summer through Japanese Honeysuckle (with a pure white flower), Spanish Broom, and flowering quince/japonica for winter/spring flowers.

Teaming up with Dummerston’s Conservation Commission, The Learning Collaborative presents this program on "The Public Health Risk for Lyme Disease in a Complex Forest Ecosystem,” as Jeff Ward, Chief Scientist with the CT Agricultural Experiment Station, discusses the public health issue of the connection between the trouble regenerating Vermont’s forests, the destruction of wildflowers, Japanese barberry, honeysuckle, multiflora rose, Lyme disease, and deer.
A webinar presentation on May 7th 2015 by Rachel Gagnon (Ontario Invasive Plant Council) as part of the Forest Invasives spring webinar series. Invasive plants can spread across the forest floor, choking out native species and altering ecosystem dynamics. Invasive plants discussed in this presentation include garlic mustard, dog-strangling vine, invasive honeysuckles, Japanese knotweed, and common buckthorn. Learn how to take action and control the spread of these invasive forest plants. For more information, visit www.forestinvasives.ca
