The Doge's Palace (Italian: Palazzo Ducale) is a palace built in Venetian Gothic style, and one of the main landmarks of the city of Venice in northern Italy. The palace was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the former Republic of Venice, opening as a museum in 1923. Today, it is one of the 11 museums run by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia.
In 810, Doge Angelo Partecipazio moved the seat of government from the island of Malamocco to the area of the present-day Rialto, when it was decided a palatium duci, a ducal palace, should be built. However, no trace remains of that 9th-century building as the palace was partially destroyed in the 10th century by a fire. The following reconstruction works were undertaken at the behest of Doge Sebastiano Ziani (1172–1178). A great reformer, he would drastically change the entire layout of the St. Mark's Square. The new palace was built out of fortresses, one façade to the Piazzetta, the other overlooking the St. Mark's Basin. Although only few traces remain of that palace, some Byzantine-Venetian architecture characteristics can still be seen at the ground floor, with the wall base in Istrian stone and some herring-bone pattern brick paving. Political changes in the mid-13th century led to the need to re-think the palace's structure due to the considerable increase in the number of the Great Council's members. The new Gothic palace's constructions started around 1340, focusing mostly on the side of the building facing the lagoon. Only in 1424, did Doge Francesco Foscari decide to extend the rebuilding works to the wing overlooking the Piazzetta, serving as law-courts, and with a ground floor arcade on the outside, open first floor loggias running along the façade, and the internal courtyard side of the wing, completed with the construction of the Porta della Carta (1442).
Venice (English /ˈvɛnɪs/ VEN-iss; Italian: Venezia [veˈnɛttsja]) is a city in northeastern Italy sited on a group of 118 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. It is located in the marshy Venetian Lagoon which stretches along the shoreline, between the mouths of the Po and the Piave Rivers. Venice is renowned for the beauty of its setting, its architecture, and its artwork. The city in its entirety is listed as a World Heritage Site, along with its lagoon.
Venice is the capital of the Veneto region. In 2009, there were 270,098 people residing in Venice's comune (the population estimate of 272,000 inhabitants includes the population of the whole Comune of Venezia; of whom around 60,000 live in the historic city of Venice (Centro storico); 176,000 in Terraferma (the mainland), mostly in the large frazioni (roughly equivalent to "parishes" or "wards" in other countries) of Mestre and Marghera; and 31,000 on other islands in the lagoon). Together with Padua and Treviso, the city is included in the Padua-Treviso-Venice Metropolitan Area (PATREVE), with a total population of 2,600,000. PATREVE is only a statistical metropolitan area without any degree of autonomy.
A palace is a grand residence, especially a royal residence or the home of a head of state or some other high-ranking dignitary, such as a bishop or archbishop.
The word itself is derived from the Latin name Palātium, for Palatine Hill, the hill which housed the Imperial residences in Rome. In many parts of Europe, the term is also applied to ambitious private mansions of the aristocracy. Many historic palaces are now put to other uses such as parliaments, museums, hotels or office buildings. The word is also sometimes used to describe a lavishly ornate building used for public entertainment or exhibitions.
The word "palace" comes from Old French palais (imperial residence), from Latin Palātium, the name of one of the seven hills of Rome. The original "palaces" on the Palatine Hill were the seat of the imperial power while the "capitol" on the Capitoline Hill was the religious nucleus of Rome. Long after the city grew to the seven hills the Palatine remained a desirable residential area. Emperor Caesar Augustus lived there in a purposely modest house only set apart from his neighbours by the two laurel trees planted to flank the front door as a sign of triumph granted by the Senate. His descendants, especially Nero, with his "Golden House" enlarged the house and grounds over and over until it took up the hill top. The word Palātium came to mean the residence of the emperor rather than the neighbourhood on top of the hill.

Italy (i/ˈɪtəli/; Italian: Italia [iˈtaːlja]), officially the Italian Republic (Italian: Repubblica Italiana), is a unitary parliamentary republic in Europe. Italy covers an area of 301,338 km2 (116,347 sq mi) and has a largely Mediterranean and temperate climate; due to its shape, it is often referred to in Italy as lo Stivale (the Boot). With 61 million inhabitants, it is the 4th most populous EU member state. Located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, Italy shares open land borders with France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, San Marino and Vatican City.
Since ancient times, Greeks, Etruscans and Celts have inhabited the south, centre and north of the Italian Peninsula respectively. Rome ultimately emerged as the dominant power, conquering much of the ancient world and becoming the leading cultural, political, and religious centre of Western civilisation. The legacy of the Roman Empire is widespread and can be observed in the global distribution of civilian law, Republican governments, Christianity and the latin script.

Footage from a recent trip to Italy. This footage is specifically from Doge's Palace in Venice. I tried to capture the opulence of the Palace in it's artwork, armor, and weapons on public display. The Palace was the residence of the Doge or (president) of the Venician Republic.

Note that the friezes were higher up than me. As a result, some of the details may have been lost due to the angle I was filming at. When viewing my video, though, I also recommend looking around the middle and up to see the figurines which may be eclipsed by the decoration below them - a feature that they all share. (To make it easier for viewing, I reduced the speed by half, as I was walking while filming each individual column shown.) A small thing, too: When I stopped filming after the last column - which may or may not have more decoration on the side that faces the water (there's no way to walk on that, and I didn't feel like going up the bridge - and, even if I had, the frieze would've been too far to capture with my camera) - I went back and looked at everything again without a ca...

Venice is definitely the eighth wonder of the world. This travel documentary shows a fresh vision of the marvellous city of Venice (Italy) and the surrounding islands of Lido, Murano, and Burano. Footage recorded in April 2014. This documentary film shows iconic sites in Venice (Italy) such as Ponte Rialto, Piazza di San Marco, the Doges Palace, and Saint Giorgio, together with the neighbouring islands of the Lido, Murano, and Burano. The magnificent Grand Canal plays a predominant role in this city, where cute boats and majestic gondolas replace cars and motorcycles. The vaporetto, or water bus, is another key actor in the everyday life of this unique city, as well as the markets, the bridges, the history, and the lively ambient all around. This homegrown documentary was shot in a tripod...

Gould: Venice (Audiograph for Double Orchestra and Brass Choirs) Seattle Symphony Orchestra conducted by Milton Katims Recorded April 1 and 2, 1968, in the Seattle Opera House, Seattle, Washington. Issued in 1969 as RCA Red Seal LSC-3079, coupled with Morton Gould's "Vivaldi Gallery" (which has been uploaded separately). The work was conceived for two orchestras, but this recording was accomplished by having the Seattle Symphony playing both parts, and then overdubbing the separate recordings. By 1968 overdubbing was commonplace on pop recordings, but this appears to have been the first time an entire symphony orchestra was overdubbed. Morton Gould's "Venice" is in seven movements: 1.
