Bastards (French: Les Salauds) is a 2013 Franco-German drama film directed by Claire Denis. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
Marco (Vincent Lindon), a sailor who has cut off ties with most of his family, returns home after the suicide of his brother-in-law. At the urging of his sister Sandra (Julie Bataille), who believes that her husband’s death was caused by one of their creditors, Marco tries to avenge his family. He moves in to an apartment above that occupied by the creditor, Edouard Laporte, and begins an affair with his wife, Raphaëlle (Chiara Mastroianni). Marco discovers that his sister is deep in debt and that his niece, Justine (Lola Créton), has been hospitalized and might need reconstructive surgery as her vagina has been badly damaged. After some investigation he believes that Laporte was the one who injured his niece by penetrating her with a corn cob.
Justine eventually runs away from the hospital she was staying at and friends of hers offer Marco access to images of her going to a sex club with Laporte and her father. After viewing the images Marco realizes that both his sister and his brother-in-law allowed Laporte to use their daughter for sexual favours in return for money to keep their failing shoe factory afloat. Justine and her friends leave together but she deliberately crashes the car they are driving, killing them all.
Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards was an American street punk band formed to release the songs that Lars had written. Their songs include subject matter consisting of drinking, fighting, drugs, sex, prostitutes, gangs, and street life. They are the side project band of Lars Frederiksen from Rancid.
The band members are Lars Frederiksen (vocals and lead guitar), Gordy Carbone (also credited as "Unknown Bastard") (vocals), Jason Woods, aka Big Jay Bastard, (bass), Craig Leg (rhythm guitar) and Scott Abels (also credited as "Skatty Punk Rock") (drums). While Craig did not appear on the first album, he has always been a touring member of the band.
The band was formed after Lars' friend and bandmate in Rancid, Tim Armstrong suggested writing songs about Lars and his friend Ben growing up in Campbell, California. The band was then put together as an outlet to release these songs, as well as covers of Billy Bragg's "To Have and to Have Not", Holland-Dozier-Holland's "Leaving Here" (which was also covered by Motörhead). This first album was named Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards.
Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards is the eponymous debut album by the American punk rock band Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards. All of the songs were written by lead singer/guitarist Lars Frederiksen and his Rancid bandmate, Tim Armstrong, with the exception of two covers. They are of Billy Bragg's "To Have and to Have Not" and "Leavin Here".
All songs by Lars Frederiksen and Tim Armstrong unless otherwise noted.
