Michael S. Holley (born February 26, 1970) is an American television and radio sports commentator, sports reporter and author. He formerly wrote columns for the Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, The Plain Dealer, and Akron Beacon Journal.
While working for the Akron Beacon Journal in 1993, Holley was one of several reporters who worked on a project studying race relations in Northeastern Ohio. The series, entitled "A Question of Color," won the 1994 Pulitzer Prize for Meritorious Public Service.
Holley worked as a reporter and columnist for the Boston Globe from 1997-2001 and then again from 2002-2005, briefly leaving the paper to work for the Chicago Tribune.
In 2005, Holley left the Globe to replace Bob Neumeier as co-host of the WEEI midday sports radio talk show. The show was renamed the Dale & Holley Show and features Holley and former Boston Bruins play-by-play announcer Dale Arnold who discuss the various Boston sports teams.
On February 15, 2011, it was announced Holley would join Glenn Ordway as co-host of the afternoon drive WEEI program "The Big Show". Mike Salk replaced Glenn Ordway as host of The Big Show and the show was renamed Salk and Holley on March 20, 2013. Mike Salk left the station on March 12, 2014 ending Salk and Holley. On April 1, 2014 WEEI-FM relaunched the Dale and Holley show with his former co-host Dale Arnold from 2-6 PM.
Colin Murray Cowherd (born January 6, 1964) is an American sports media personality. Born in Bay Center, Washington, Cowherd began his broadcasting career as sports director of Las Vegas television station KVBC, and as a sports anchor on several other stations before joining ESPN in 2003, where he hosted a radio show on the ESPN Radio network, and also became one of the original hosts of ESPN's television program SportsNation, as well as Colin's New Football Show. Colin is currently the host of The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Fox Sports Radio and Fox Sports 1.
In July 2015, it was announced that Cowherd would leave ESPN following the conclusion of his contract with the company, and in turn announced in August 2015 that he would join Fox Sports beginning in September—a deal which includes his radio show moving to Fox Sports Radio and Fox Sports 1, and other appearances as a contributor; while he was to leave at the end of the month, Cowherd was suspended from ESPN on July 24, 2015 following controversial remarks he made on The Herd the previous day.
The Herd may refer to:
Michael /ˈmaɪkəl/ is a male given name that comes from the Hebrew: מִיכָאֵל / מיכאל (Mīkhāʼēl, pronounced [miχaˈʔel]), derived from the question מי כאל mī kāʼēl, meaning "Who is like God?" (literally, "Who is like El?). In English, it is sometimes shortened to Mike, Mikey, Mickey, or Mick.
Female forms of Michael include Michelle, Michele, Michaela, Mechelle, Micheline, and Michaelle, although Michael is occasionally seen as a female name; women named Michael include actresses Michael Learned and Michael Michele. Another form is Mychal, which can either be a male or female name.
Patronymic surnames that come from Michael include Michaels, Carmichael, MacMichael, McMichael, Micallef, Michaelson, Mikkelsen, DiMichele, Mikhaylov, Mykhaylenko, Mikeladze, Michels, and Mitchell.
The name first appears in the Hebrew Bible in the Book of Numbers, 13:13 where Sethur the son of Michael is one of 12 spies sent into the Land of Canaan. The archangel Michael features in the Book of Daniel 12:1, and in the Qur'an as Mikhail.
The Herd with Colin Cowherd is a sports talk radio show hosted by Colin Cowherd on Fox Sports Radio and Fox Sports 1. The show features commentary on the day's sports news, perspective on other news stories, and interviews with sports analysts and sports figures.
The program was originally carried by ESPN Radio and simulcast most recently on ESPNU until July 24, 2015 as a result of Cowherd's exit from the network. After Cowherd joined Fox Sports, The Herd moved to the Premiere Networks-distributed Fox Sports Radio network, airing from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. ET. Its television simulcast also moved to FS1. Fox Sports 1 also airs a daily highlight show, The Best Thing I Herd, hosted by Kristine Leahy.
During its run on ESPN, Cowherd was joined by on-air by producers Vincent Kates, David Fisch and Tom Wassell. Fisch was an All-American high school swimmer, according to his mom. ESPN Radio SportsCenter updates during the show were performed by Dan Davis. On his March 5, 2010 show, Colin announced that Amanda Gifford would be leaving The Herd to become a "suit". Additionally, the show was cut back one hour, airing three hours, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
