A.S. Varese 1910 is an Italian football club from Varese, founded 22 March 1910. It currently plays in Serie B, ranked one division below Serie A in the Italian football league.
The club was formed on 22 March 1910, as Varese Football Club, with the goal of promoting football and other open air games. All members, both players and management, paid dues of 1 Lira every month. The club's colours were white and purple and the local market place doubled as the club's first ground. A rope fenced off the pitch from the public, and dressing rooms were improvised in an alley restaurant.
The club played numerous friendly matches before joining any sort of league or organised competition. Early opponents included the "Aurora" of Busto Arsizio, the "Libertas" of Gallarate, the Luino, the Unione Sportiva Milanese, the Ausonia, and the great Inter Milan. The club took the first steps on the Italian league ladder by entering the Lega Regionale Lombarda in 1914, and the first official championship saw the Varesini playing in their original colours of purple and white silk. The club's American goalkeeper, Sormani, distinguished himself in this first official season as one of Varese's star players.
Varese (Italian: [vaˈreːze] ( listen), Latin Baretium, archaic German: Väris, Varès in Varesino) is a town and comune in north-western Lombardy, northern Italy, 55 km north of Milan.
It is the capital of the Province of Varese. The hinterland or urban part of the city is called Varesotto.
The town of Varese lies at the feet of Sacro Monte di Varese, part of the Campo dei Fiori mountain range. The town also looks over Lake Varese.
Varese, like the province, has a very high immigrant population owing to both its economy (many multi-national companies and the nearby EU institution JRC) and its location (proximity to Milan makes it an ideal place for the latter city's workers).
In 1859, Giuseppe Garibaldi confronted Austrian forces led by Field Marshal-Lieutenant Carl Baron Urban near Varese. Also, it was here where Alessandro Marchetti's Savoia-Marchetti SM.93 made his first test flights.
The town is served by both the state-run Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) and Ferrovie Nord Milano (TRENORD), both of which run high-frequency train services to Milan. In addition, there is a project under way to connect Varese with Malpensa Airport; this line would then continue past Varese to Mendrisio and Lugano in Switzerland. Construction of the Varese-Mendrisio section (17.7 kilometers (11.0 mi) long) is expected to begin in 2009.

With the Italy national football team, he was in the team that won the 1968 UEFA European Football Championship, where he scored a goal in the final against Yugoslavia. He also participated at the 1974 FIFA World Cup, scoring one goal against Haiti. In total, he played 25 international matches and scored 8 goals.
Today, Anastasi is a TV pundit for the Italian network "Italia 7 Gold".
When Juventus were struggling in the 2010/11 season he said "Del Neri is not at the level needed. They need a coach with experience and who has an international level of experience."
