Alexander I of Epirus
Alexander I of Epirus (Ancient Greek: Ἀλέξανδρος Α' τῆς Ἠπείρου, 370 BC – 331 BC), also known as Alexander Molossus (Ἀλέξανδρος ὁ Μολοσσός), was a king of Epirus (350–331 BC) of the Aeacid dynasty.
As the son of Neoptolemus I and brother of Olympias, Alexander I was an uncle of Alexander the Great. He was also an uncle of Pyrrhus of Epirus. He was brought at an early age to the court of Philip II of Macedon, and after the Hellenic fashion became the object of his attachment. At the age of about 20, Philip made him king of Epirus, after dethroning his uncle Arymbas.
When Olympias was repudiated by her husband, 337 BC, she went to her brother, and endeavoured to induce him to make war on Philip.
Alexander, however, declined the contest, and formed a second alliance with Philip by taking to wife the daughter of Philip (Alexander's niece) Cleopatra in marriage (336 BC). At the wedding Philip was assassinated by Pausanias of Orestis.
In 334 BC, Alexander I, at the request of the Greek colony of Taras (in Magna Graecia), crossed over into Italy, to aid them in battle against several Italic tribes, the Lucanians and Bruttii. After a victory over the Samnites and Lucanians near Paestum, 332 BC, he made a treaty with the Romans. Success still followed his arms. He took Heraclea from the Lucanians, and Terina and Sipontum from the Bruttii. Through the treachery of some Lucanian exiles, he was compelled to engage under unfavourable circumstances in the battle of Pandosia and was killed by a Lucanian. He left a son, Neoptolemus, and a daughter, Cadmea.

Epirus
Epirus (/ᵻˈpaɪərəs/) is a geographical and historical region in southeastern Europe, now shared between Greece and Albania. It lies between the Pindus Mountains and the Ionian Sea, stretching from the Bay of Vlorë and the Acroceraunian mountains in the north to the Ambracian Gulf and the ruined Roman city of Nicopolis in the south. It is currently divided between the region of Epirus in northwestern Greece and the counties of Gjirokastër, Vlorë, and Berat in southern Albania. The largest city in Epirus is Ioannina, seat of the region of Epirus, with Gjirokastër the largest city in the Albanian part of Epirus.
A rugged and mountainous region, Epirus was the north-west area of ancient Greece. It was inhabited by the Greek tribes of the Chaonians, Molossians, and Thesprotians, and home to the sanctuary of Dodona, the oldest ancient Greek oracle, and the most prestigious one after Delphi. Unified into a single state in 370 BC by the Aeacidae dynasty, Epirus achieved fame during the reign of Pyrrhus of Epirus, whose campaigns against Rome are the origin of the term "Pyrrhic victory". Epirus subsequently became part of the Roman Empire along with the rest of Greece in 146 BC, which was followed by the Byzantine Empire.

Epirus (region)
Epirus (/ɪˈpaɪrəs/; Greek: Ήπειρος, Ípeiros), formally the Epirus Region (Περιφέρεια Ηπείρου, Periféreia Ipeírou), is a traditional geographic and modern administrative region in northwestern Greece. It borders the regions of West Macedonia and Thessaly to the east, West Greece to the south, the Ionian Sea and Ionian Islands to the west and Albania to the north. The region has an area of about 9,200 km2 (3,600 sq mi). It is part of the wider historical region of Epirus, which overlaps modern Albania and Greece but lies mostly within Greek territory.
Geography and ecology
Greek Epirus, like the region as a whole, is rugged and mountainous.It comprises the land of the ancient Molossians and Thesprotians and a small part of the land of the Chaonians the greater part being in Southern Albania. It is largely made up of mountainous ridges, part of the Dinaric Alps. The region's highest spot is on Mount Smolikas, at an altitude of 2.637 metres above sea level. In the east, the Pindus Mountains that form the spine of mainland Greece separate Epirus from Macedonia and Thessaly. Most of Epirus lies on the windward side of the Pindus. The winds from the Ionian Sea offer the region more rainfall than any other part of Greece.

Epirus (mythology)
Epirus or Epeiros (Greek: Ἤπειρος), in Greek mythology, is the daughter of Agave and Echion. She accompanied Cadmus and Harmonia while they were carrying the body of her brother Pentheus. While in Epirus, she died and was buried in a thicket; this thicket was later considered sacred to her and the entire country was renamed after her. This same thicket was also considered the place where the king's son Cichyrus accidentally slew a young girl named Anthippe while hunting. In remorse he flung himself into a ravine and was killed. The king's people, the Chaonians, founded the city of Cichyrus around the ravine.

The Kingdom of Epirus, located in the northwest of Ancient Greece, was known for its beauty and rich culture. Its main city, Dodona, was famous for the Sanctuary of Zeus. Inhabited since the Hellenistic era by tribes such as the Molossians, Thesprotians, and Chaonians, Epirus expanded its influence under the Molossian dynasty, descendants of Achilles. It was first built in 1750 with money given by Noutsou Kondodimou, (the bridge is also referred to as Kondodimos Bridge). Unfortunately, it collapsed several times and had to be rebuilt. Lygia Greece - Preveza Region, Epirus
Lygia is a small, peaceful fishing village on the shores of the Ionian Sea in Northwestern Greece, just across the island of Paxi. The beaches are sandy, mixed with gravel. There are a few restaurants and a fantastic fish tavern near the harbour. The 3,5 km long sandy beach of Vrachos-Loutsa, with cafes, restaurants, and mini-markets, is within walking distance. Spectacular sunsets can be seen from every angle in this village. Equally beautiful are the usually crystal clear star-filled nights that can be enjoyed from the beach. The crystal clear blue waters are full of beautiful volcanic reefs and sea life, which makes it ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Due to its location, winds are often present here, and big waves may appear, but this is the most suitable place in the Preveza region...

One of the older bridges throughout the region is this beautiful stone bridge built in part by Gregoris Kokoris. It was first built in 1750 with money given by Noutsou Kondodimou, (the bridge is also referred to as Kondodimos Bridge). Unfortunately, it collapsed several times and had to be rebuilt. Not to worry, the current example is sturdy and lies between the villages of Kipi, Koukouli and Dilofo.

Lygia is a small, peaceful fishing village on the shores of the Ionian Sea in Northwestern Greece, just across the island of Paxi. The beaches are sandy, mixed with gravel. There are a few restaurants and a fantastic fish tavern near the harbour. The 3,5 km long sandy beach of Vrachos-Loutsa, with cafes, restaurants, and mini-markets, is within walking distance. Spectacular sunsets can be seen from every angle in this village. Equally beautiful are the usually crystal clear star-filled nights that can be enjoyed from the beach. The crystal clear blue waters are full of beautiful volcanic reefs and sea life, which makes it ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Due to its location, winds are often present here, and big waves may appear, but this is the most suitable place in the Preveza region if you want privacy and isolation. The picturesque towns of Parga and Preveza, as well as a plethora of remarkable cultural and archaeological sites, are within half an hour's drive.

The Kingdom of Epirus, located in the northwest of Ancient Greece, was known for its beauty and rich culture. Its main city, Dodona, was famous for the Sanctuary of Zeus. Inhabited since the Hellenistic era by tribes such as the Molossians, Thesprotians, and Chaonians, Epirus expanded its influence under the Molossian dynasty, descendants of Achilles. Its interactions with Macedonia shaped its politics and aristocracy, while the Pyrrhic Wars with Rome exemplified the cost of hard-fought victories. Despite initial independence and strategic alliances, Epirus was ultimately incorporated into the Roman Empire in 167 BC, leaving a lasting historical and cultural legacy.

Dorians' late 2nd millennium BC invasion forced Epirotes south, forming distinct tribes—Chaonians, Molossians, Thesprotians—hindering a unified regional name. "Epirus" emerged in the 6th century BC, denoting identity and Greek prominence.
The Molossian Aeacidae dynasty (370 BC onward) centralized Epirus, aligning with Macedon. Olympias' marriage to Philip II solidified ties. Alexander the Molossian's rule saw Epirus' transformation but ended at the Battle of Pandosia in 331 BC.
Pyrrhus, in 295 BC, led Epirus into Italy, achieving a Pyrrhic victory at Heraclea (280 BC). Despite successes in Sicily, his Italian campaign faltered at Beneventum (275 BC), resulting in losses.
By 233 BC, the Aeacid dynasty ended, and Epirus became a federal republic. The Epirote League formed, but Roman threats led to internal divisions. The Third Macedonian War (171–168 BC) saw Molossia enslaved in 167 BC, marking Epirus' decline.
In conclusion, Epirus, with its Neolithic roots, Mycenaean ties, and diverse history, epitomizes early Greek civilization. Tribal divisions, Molossian centralization, and Roman encounters shape its captivating narrative, making Epirus a compelling study of ancient Greece's complexities.

Alexander I of Epirus
Alexander I of Epirus (Ancient Greek: Ἀλέξανδρος Α' τῆς Ἠπείρου, 370 BC – 331 BC), also known as Alexander Molossus (Ἀλέξανδρος ὁ Μολοσσός), was a king of Epirus (350–331 BC) of the Aeacid dynasty.
As the son of Neoptolemus I and brother of Olympias, Alexander I was an uncle of Alexander the Great. He was also an uncle of Pyrrhus of Epirus. He was brought at an early age to the court of Philip II of Macedon, and after the Hellenic fashion became the object of his attachment. At the age of about 20, Philip made him king of Epirus, after dethroning his uncle Arymbas.
When Olympias was repudiated by her husband, 337 BC, she went to her brother, and endeavoured to induce him to make war on Philip.
Alexander, however, declined the contest, and formed a second alliance with Philip by taking to wife the daughter of Philip (Alexander's niece) Cleopatra in marriage (336 BC). At the wedding Philip was assassinated by Pausanias of Orestis.
In 334 BC, Alexander I, at the request of the Greek colony of Taras (in Magna Graecia), crossed over into Italy, to aid them in battle against several Italic tribes, the Lucanians and Bruttii. After a victory over the Samnites and Lucanians near Paestum, 332 BC, he made a treaty with the Romans. Success still followed his arms. He took Heraclea from the Lucanians, and Terina and Sipontum from the Bruttii. Through the treachery of some Lucanian exiles, he was compelled to engage under unfavourable circumstances in the battle of Pandosia and was killed by a Lucanian. He left a son, Neoptolemus, and a daughter, Cadmea.

KOKORI BRIDGE
One of the older bridges throughout the region is this beautiful stone bridge built in part by Gregoris Kokoris. It was first built in 1750 with money given by Noutsou Kondodimou, (the bridge is also referred to as Kondodimos Bridge). Unfortunately, it collapsed several times and had to be rebuilt. Not to worry, the current example is sturdy and lies between the villages of Kipi, Koukouli and Dilofo.

Lygia is a small, peaceful fishing village on the shores of the Ionian Sea in Northwestern Greece, just across the island of Paxi. The beaches are sandy, mixed with gravel. There are a few restaurants and a fantastic fish tavern near the harbour. The 3,5 km long sandy beach of Vrachos-Loutsa, with cafes, restaurants, and mini-markets, is within walking distance. Spectacular sunsets can be seen from every angle in this village. Equally beautiful are the usually crystal clear star-filled nights that can be enjoyed from the beach. The crystal clear blue waters are full of beautiful volcanic reefs and sea life, which makes it ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Due to its location, winds are often present here, and big waves may appear, but this is the most suitable place in the Preveza region if you want privacy and isolation. The picturesque towns of Parga and Preveza, as well as a plethora of remarkable cultural and archaeological sites, are within half an hour's drive.
