Join in World Rhino Day celebrations

Did you know that in the late 1800s the southern white rhino was considered extinct until 100 of the mammals were discovered in Natal, South Africa? Two can now be found in Dublin Zoo. Today is World Rhino Day, and now in its third year, it has become a world- wide event celebrated from Nepal to New Zealand and Milwaukee to Malaysia. Dublin Zoo is celebrating too. Altogether there are five types of rhinoceros but they're in constant danger of depletion because of poachers. Prince William, now royal patron of the Tusk Trust, is among those concerned. Illegal trade of rhinoceros horns is the main reason behind their decline. The Phoenix Park zoo houses Ashanti and Zanta – why don't you pop down and wish them a happy World Rhino Day? www.worldrhinoday.org
