Christopher Patrick "Chris" Myers (b 28 March 1959) ^[1]) is an American sportscaster.

With more than 20 years in broadcasting, Chris Myers has covered premiere events, including the Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals, NCAA Final Four, The Masters and U.S. Open (golf), Triple Crown, the Olympics and the Daytona 500.

Chris Myers, a native of Miami and a Southern California resident, garnered his first major break in broadcasting as a 16-year-old high school student when he hosted his own show on Miami’s WKAT-AM radio, interviewing such sports heavy hitters as Muhammad Ali and Don Shula.^{[citation needed]} Myers graduated from Chaminade High School, Hollywood, Florida, May, 1977. He joined Fox Sports Net as an anchor in December 1998 where he hosted the National Sports Report, among other hosting duties. Prior to joining FOX, Myers spent nine years at ESPN reporting and anchoring SportsCenter and Baseball Tonight, as well as hosting “Up Close” from 1994 to 1998, which included the first live interview with O.J. Simpson after his acquittal. With more than 20 years in broadcasting, Myers has covered all of the sports world’s premiere events, including the Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals, NCAA Final Four, The Masters and U.S. Open golf, Triple Crown, the Olympics and the Daytona 500.^{[citation needed]} In 1990, Myers received an Emmy Award in the Sports Features category as an anchor/reporter.

He has also hosted shows and events on the Discovery Channel, Tennis Channel, and the Military Channel. He has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live numerous times.

Myers also serves as the play-by-play commentator for Tampa Bay Buccaneers preseason games that air locally on WTSP-TV, after having the same role for WFLA-TV from 2003-2010. Myers was also named as the host in 2010, for Showtime's weekly series Inside NASCAR.

Myers conducted the last public interview with the late John Wooden in April 2010 on CMI (Chris Myers Interview) Radio Show. The legendary ninety-nine year-old coach told Myers he did not fear death saying "The next life will be even better, and this one hasn't been too bad."

Prior to joining FSN, Myers spent ten years at ESPN hosting SportsCenter, Baseball Tonight, and other various shows including the interview program Up Close, where Myers was honored as one of TV's best interviewers. He also received an emmy for his work.

As host of Up Close, Myers was the first to conduct a live interview with O.J. Simpson after both his criminal trial and civil lawsuit.^{[citation needed]}

Myers earned acclaim for his live reporting during the San Francisco Earthquake that took place during the world series. Myers was also the only on scene reporter who stayed on the air through the night broadcasting from Atlanta during the Centennial Olympic Park bombing.^{[citation needed]}

In 1998, Myers joined Fox Sports Net where he was one of the original anchors of The National Sports Report and the weekly sports magazine program Goin' Deep. In 2005, he debuted The Chris Myers Interview on FSN. In 2000, Myers joined Fox Sports Radio where he currently hosts his own interview show, CMI, which can be heard on over 200 affiliates.

Myers is also currently the studio host for NASCAR coverage on Fox, and a reporter for the NFL on Fox and Major League Baseball on Fox. Myers was also a reporter for Bowl Championship Series coverage on Fox.

Myers presented the New Orleans Saints with their first ever NFC championship trophy after narrowly defeating the Minnesota Vikings 31-28 on January 24, 2010.

During a Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints game, on September 13, 2009, Myers made a remark while talking about linebacker Larry Foote's decision to leave the perennially strong Pittsburgh Steelers to play for Detroit, he said, "That's like going from dating Beyoncé to Whoopi Goldberg!"^[2][3][4][5] Frank Caliendo later impersonated Myers on the NFL pre-game show.

Myers also visited the American armed forces in Qatar on behalf of FOX Sports and gave a live broadcast with the armed forces that was shown on the fox pre-game show before the New Orleans Saints played the Dallas Cowboys on November 25, Thanksgiving Day. In 2012 Chris Myers will join Gus Johnson, Charles Davis, and Tim Brewster on Fox College Football.

On a May 17, 2010 appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, Myers made comments regarding the May 2010 Tennessee floods that were interpreted by some as disparaging toward the city of New Orleans and the victims of Hurricane Katrina: "We have disasters issues when people pull together and help themselves and I thought the people in Tennessee, unlike -- I'm not going to name names -- when a natural disaster hits people weren't standing on a rooftop trying to blame the government, okay. They helped each other out through this. And Mike Helton, president of NASCAR, Tony Stewart, among some drivers went from the race over to the middle Tennessee area where still a lot of hardworking, tax-paying, legal American citizens have been affected by the floods and are trying to rebuild their lives and they are helping out. And I think that other people around the country, of course the music industry in and around Nashville helping, without making a big deal out of it and I think that's a good thing." ^[6]

On May 20, 2010, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu wrote a letter to FOX Sports "demanding an apology."^[7] On the same day, Myers issued an official apology for his comments, calling them "inappropriate and insensitive."^[8]

Personal life[link]

He currently resides in Hollywood, California with wife Sue and their son, Alex.

On February 16, 2012, Myers' 19 year old son, Christopher, died in a car crash. The accident took place in Thousand Oaks near the Myers' residence.^[9][10]While on bereavement leave, John Roberts took over for him for the 2012 Daytona 500, which was postponed to Monday night and ran into early morning Tuesday due to a two-hour long red flag. Myers returned to the Hollywood Hotel at the Subway Fresh Fit 500.

Kelly began his career with BB&T (NYSE: BBT) by joining BB&T’s Management Development Program in 1972 and has served in many roles, including manager of its Central and Metropolitan regions, Raleigh city executive, Charlotte business services manager, Statesville consumer lending manager, and banking manager for BB&T’s branch network. Walter Dean Myers (born Walter Milton Myers, August 12, 1937, Martinsburg, West Virginia) is an African American author of young adult literature. Myers has written over fifty books, including novels and nonfiction works. He has won the Coretta Scott King Award for African American authors five times. One of his novels, Fallen Angels, has made the American Library Association's list of frequently challenged books, due to adult language and its realistic depiction of the Vietnam War. He currently sits on the Board of Advisors of the Society of Children's Book Writer's and Illustrators (SCBWI)

Myers was the first winner of the Michael L. Printz Award, for Monster.^[1][2] He won the Margaret Edwards Award in 1994.^[3]

Personal life[link]

When his mother died while giving birth to his little sister, Myers was given over as a child to Florence Dean, who was the first wife of George Myers (Walter's biological father), who raised him in Harlem, New York. Myers later took on "Dean" as his middle name in honor of his foster parents Florence and Herbert.^[6] Herbert was an African American man and his wife was a part German and part Native American woman who taught English at the local high school. As a child, Myers's life centered around the neighborhood and the church. The neighborhood protected him and the church guided him. Walter was smart, but didn't do that well in school.^[7] Suffering with a speech impediment, he cultivated a habit of writing poetry and short stories and acquired an early love of reading.^[4] Myers dropped out of high school (although Stuyvesant High now claims him as a graduate) and joined the army on his 17th birthday.^[8] Walter wrote well in high school and one of his teachers recognized this; she also suspected he was going to drop out. She advised him to keep on writing no matter what happened. He didn't exactly understand what that meant but years later, while working on a construction job in New York, he remembered her words.^{[6] [7]} Myers would write at night, soon writing about his difficult teenage years. When asked what he valued most, he replied, "My books. They were my only real friends growing up."

Myers lives in Jersey City, New Jersey with his family.^[2]

Walter Kevin Dean is an American former football running back. He played college football for the Grambling State Tigers at Grambling State University. In his senior year, he led the nation in rushing and won the 1990 Walter Payton Award as the most outstanding player in Division I-AA football. He played professional football for one season in the National Football League (NFL) after he was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the 1991 NFL Draft.

Early life[link]

Dean was born on June 1, 1968 in Ruston, Louisiana to Walter, a concrete company dispatcher, and Betty Dean, an administrative secretary at Grambling State University.^[1][2] He also has a younger brother who played football, Keith, who was one of Louisiana's leading interscholastic players, and with whom he shared a "good-natured rivalry" according to their mother.^[2] Walter Dean attended Grambling State University Laboratory High School in Grambling, Louisiana^[3] and turned down offers from major college football programs such as Nebraska and Louisiana State in order to attend Grambling State. Dean said, "I wanted to go to a college where everybody I knew wouldn't have to sign up for a frequent-flyer program in order to see me play."^[2]

College career[link]

At Grambling, Dean studied business management and played football for the Grambling State Tigers as a running back. He earned the nickname "American Express" due to the belief of his coach, Eddie Robinson, that the team should 'never leave home without him', a saying similar to the slogan of the eponymous credit card company. Sports Illustrated called Dean possibly the "best runner produced by a predominantly black college since Walter Payton came out of Jackson State in 1975."^[2] Former Grambling and Los Angeles Rams fullback Paul "Tank" Younger said about Dean, "You take one look at him and you think, hey, he doesn't look that tough. He isn't the huge, muscle-flexing type of back, but once you see him run the ball, you want to check out his scrapbook."^[2]

At Grambling, Dean recorded a career total of 3,328 yards and 41 touchdowns.^[4] As a junior in 1989, Dean scored 18 touchdowns and set a school rushing record when he compiled 1,269 yards.^[2][4] In 1990, Dean recorded 17 touchdowns and the Division I-AA season-best 1,401 rushing yards.^[4] Against Elizabeth City, he recorded 137 yards on just 15 carries (9.13 average). Against Hampton, he compiled a career-high 232 yards and helped lead the Tigers to a 22-3 victory.^[2] Grambling finished the season with an 8–3 record, including a win against their arch-rival, Southern, in the Bayou Classic.^[4]

Eddie Robinson believed that Dean was deserving of the Heisman Trophy, awarded annually to the best college football player, but acknowledged that voters would not seriously consider a Division I-AA player for the honor.^[2] Dean did, however, win the Walter Payton Award, which is the award bestowed annually upon Division I-AA football's most outstanding player.^[4]

Professional football[link]

Dean was selected in the sixth round of the 1991 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers (149th pick overall). He then played one season for Green Bay. In 1991, he saw action in nine games and recorded one kick return and one fumble.^[1][3]
