History and walking tour: Berlin City Palace (Stadtschloss)
Once, the city palace of the Hohenzollern stood in Berlin. This aristocratic family began to rule over the Mark Brandenburg in 1415 and shortly after declared Berlin to be their capital. This was the historical turning point for the town, as its existence from now on was strongly connected to the Hohenzollern. The rise of these power-hungry rulers to be one of the most influential dynasties in Europe became visible in the townscape. In 1443, a castle was built on the island in the Spree demonstrating to the inhabitants of Berlin, that from now on the sovereign ruled the city. Prince-Elector Friedrich III., who achieved the king's crown of Prussia in 1701, began with an ambitious extension of the building already before his elevation. In 1698 the renowned sculptor and architect Andreas Schlüter was assigned to turn the building complex into an imposing Baroque palace. Up to 1918 the Stadtschloss was the representative seat of the Hohenzollern. After the November Revolution and the foundation of the Weimar Republic the palace became government property and was hence used as a museum. In the bombings of the Second World War the Stadtschloss was heavily hit. Due to the division of the German Reich and its capital between the four Allied forces in 1945, the historic centre of Berlin became part of the Soviet zone of occupation and lastly came under the responsibility of the GDR. The SED party leader Walter Ulbricht declared in 1950, that East Berlin was not interested in rebuilding the Stadtschloss. So in the autumn of the same year, the ruin, which could have been reconstructed, was stripped of its valuable and decorative elements for further usage. Then the blasters appeared to finish off this act of cultural barbarism. Thus, one of the most important historic building monuments of Berlin with relevance for the federal history of Germany was destroyed.- published: 25 May 2014

Amer Fort and City Palace, Jaipur - India Amer Fort was built by Raja Man Singh I. With its large ramparts, series of gates and cobbled paths, the fort overlooks the Maota Lake, at its forefront. Ganesh Pol or the Ganesh Gate, named after the Hindu god Lord Ganesh who removes all obstacles in life, is the entry into the private palaces of the Maharajas. The building to the left of the entrance gate is called the Jai Mandir, which is exquisitely beautified with glass inlaid panels and multi-mirrored ceilings. The mirrors are of convex shape and designed with coloured foil and paint which would glitter bright under candle nights at the time it was in use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amer_Fort City Palace, Jaipur was built between 1729 and 1732. There are four small gates (known as Ridhi Sidhi Pol)in the inner courtyard, which provides access to the Chandra Mahal. They are adorned with themes representing the four seasons and Hindu gods. The gates are the Northeast Peacock Gate (with motifs of peacocks on the doorway) representing autumn and dedicated Lord Vishnu; the Southwest Lotus Gate (with continual flower and petal pattern) suggestive of summer season and dedicated to Lord Shiva-Parvati; the Northwest Green Gate, also called the Leheriya (meaning: "waves") gate, in green colour suggestive of spring and dedicated to Lord Ganesha, and lastly, the Rose Gate with repeated flower pattern representing winter season and dedicated to Goddess Devi. Diwan-I-Khas was a private audience hall of the Maharajas, a marble floored chamber.
