The Senator meets his Waterloo when he takes on the US Army, accusing the military of harboring known subversives. Television reveals McCarthy for the demagogue that he is, and soon he plunges into obscurity and acute alcoholism. He dies discredited in 1957 while still only in his forties. Told in flashback form, Tail Gunner Joe traces the rise and fall of Wisconsin senator Joseph McCarthy (Peter Boyle). The story begins with McCarthy's judicial career, then progresses to his rise to the U.S. senate on the Republican ticket and his ultimate exploitation of the postwar "anti- communist" movement. Declaring in a 1950 speech that he personally knows of several communists in high government offices, McCarthy becomes a major political power, influencing the outcome of elections, stoking the flames of the "Red Scare" of the 1950s and ruining the reputations of several people suspected of being "commie-symps". The Senator meets his Waterloo when he takes on the US Army, accusing the military of harboring known subversives. During a televised hearing, he recklessly casts aspersions upon a young lawyer, prompting defense attorney Joseph Welch (Burgess Meredith) to mutter disconsolately "Have you no sense of decency, sir?" Television reveals McCarthy for the demagogue that he is, and soon he plunges into obscurity and acute alcoholism. He dies discredited in 1957 while still only in his forties. Tail Gunner Joe is in its own way as biased and unfair as any of Joe McCarthy's diatribes but this made-for-TV movie works as a brisk, entertaining recollection of an era in which "guilt by association" was a byword. Peter Cusack is one of ninety collaborators that have been commissioned by Matt's Gallery, London, to contribute a film to TAPS: Improvisations with Paul Burwell.
TAPS will be taking place at Dilston Grove, Southwark Park, London on 17th, 18th and 19th of September, 2010.
"One of the things I'm most grateful to Paul for is telling me about the half sunken concrete barges lying in the Thames mud at Rainham, Essex".
Paul Burwell was infamous for his exuberant fusions of fine-art installation, percussion and explosive performance. He was a staunch advocate of, and passionate participant in, all forms of experimental art. TAPS: Improvisations with Paul Burwell, realised by Anne Bean, Robin Klassnik and Richard Wilson embodies his prolific practice.
Over the course of three days TAPS will combine film, installation and performance, portraying layers of interpretation from more than 80 invited collaborators, in response to Burwell’s poem ‘Adventures in the House of Memory’. The poem arose from improvisations by Anne Bean and Paul Burwell in preparation for William Burroughs’s Final Academy at Ritzy, London in 1982, where improvised words were written on huge sheets of flash paper which were ignited as they were sung.
The poem was the last recorded Burwell work two months before he died in 2007. The body of collaborators have responded to the poem by each creating a short film or audio work as a new collaboration for, about or ‘with’ Burwell.
Fragments of each collaborator’s film or audio work, now make a collective totem in a two screen, one hour composite film interpreted and edited by Anne Bean and Chris Bishop. This resulting work resonates with the poem’s innate episodic chronicles, as slivers interleaf together, and runs continuously throughout each day.
The film is shown as part of a screen installation constructed by Richard Wilson. By adding its own sounds and actions, this structure becomes a part player in the final act of the last evening, during a performance by Ansuman Biswas.
Live performances form another layer of exploration, echoing the sense of inter-connectivity created by the installation. Each performer encompasses a practice that reflects the context and ethos in which Burwell worked, improvising within the framework of the poem, film, installation and space at Dilston Grove. The performances will take place at various times during the event.
A publication with an essay by David Toop and drawings by Paul McCarthy, published by Matt’s Gallery, will be available free to visitors throughout the event.
TAPS is supported by a Legacy: Thinker in Residence Award to Anne Bean. Legacy is a collaboration between the Live Art Development Agency and Tate Research, financially assisted by Arts Council England and the Live Art Development Agency. Legacy acknowledges the outstanding bodies of work of two artists who have influenced the development of the Live Art field by supporting them to think about the legacies of performance in art historical contexts and examine the processes and challenges of archiving live work. Peter Cusack is one of ninety collaborators that have been commissioned by Matt's Gallery, London, to contribute a film to TAPS: Improvisations with Paul Burwell.
TAPS will be taking place at Dilston Grove, Southwark Park, London on 17th, 18th and 19th of September, 2010.
"One of the things I'm most grateful to Paul for is telling me about the half sunken concrete barges lying in the Thames mud at Rainham, Essex".
Paul Burwell was infamous for his exuberant fusions of fine-art installation, percussion and explosive performance. He was a staunch advocate of, and passionate participant in, all forms of experimental art. TAPS: Improvisations with Paul Burwell, realised by Anne Bean, Robin Klassnik and Richard Wilson embodies his prolific practice.
Over the course of three days TAPS will combine film, installation and performance, portraying layers of interpretation from more than 80 invited collaborators, in response to Burwell’s poem ‘Adventures in the House of Memory’. The poem arose from improvisations by Anne Bean and Paul Burwell in preparation for William Burroughs’s Final Academy at Ritzy, London in 1982, where improvised words were written on huge sheets of flash paper which were ignited as they were sung.
The poem was the last recorded Burwell work two months before he died in 2007. The body of collaborators have responded to the poem by each creating a short film or audio work as a new collaboration for, about or ‘with’ Burwell.
Fragments of each collaborator’s film or audio work, now make a collective totem in a two screen, one hour composite film interpreted and edited by Anne Bean and Chris Bishop. This resulting work resonates with the poem’s innate episodic chronicles, as slivers interleaf together, and runs continuously throughout each day.
The film is shown as part of a screen installation constructed by Richard Wilson. By adding its own sounds and actions, this structure becomes a part player in the final act of the last evening, during a performance by Ansuman Biswas.
Live performances form another layer of exploration, echoing the sense of inter-connectivity created by the installation. Each performer encompasses a practice that reflects the context and ethos in which Burwell worked, improvising within the framework of the poem, film, installation and space at Dilston Grove. The performances will take place at various times during the event.
A publication with an essay by David Toop and drawings by Paul McCarthy, published by Matt’s Gallery, will be available free to visitors throughout the event.
TAPS is supported by a Legacy: Thinker in Residence Award to Anne Bean. Legacy is a collaboration between the Live Art Development Agency and Tate Research, financially assisted by Arts Council England and the Live Art Development Agency. Legacy acknowledges the outstanding bodies of work of two artists who have influenced the development of the Live Art field by supporting them to think about the legacies of performance in art historical contexts and examine the processes and challenges of archiving live work. Ann Cusack (born May 22, 1961) is an American actress.
Cusack was born in Brooklyn, New York, to an Irish Catholic family. She is the sister of actors Joan, Bill, John, and Susie. Her mother, Ann Paula "Nancy" (née Carolan), is a former mathematics teacher and political activist. Her father, Dick Cusack, was an actor, producer, and writer. With Joan and John, she trained at the Piven Theatre Workshop in Evanston, Illinois, and Berklee College of Music, Boston, Massachusetts.
Cusack starred in her first film role in 1992, when she was cast in A League of Their Own, as Shirley Baker. She was in the 1996 comedy Multiplicity which starred Michael Keaton and Andie MacDowell. Also in 1996, she replaced Anita Barone on The Jeff Foxworthy Show until the series ended. In 1998, Cusack starred in Maggie on Lifetime Television. Cusack has made guest appearances in Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill, Charmed, Ghost Whisperer, The Unit, Boston Legal, Bones, Frasier, Ally McBeal, Criminal Minds and Private Practice, among others. In 2002, she guest-starred in the episode of Star Trek: Enterprise entitled "Carbon Creek". She had a small role in Grosse Pointe Blank, which starred her siblings John and Joan; appeared in the movie Accepted, in which she plays Diane Gaines, mother to the lead character played by Justin Long; and appeared in the film What Planet Are You From. She also co-starred in Ace Ventura Jr: Pet Detective as Melissa Robinson Ventura, the titular character's mother (replacing Courteney Cox from the original film). She also appeared in the SciFi TV show Lost Room as Helen Ruber (2 episodes, 2006).

John Paul Cusack (born June 28, 1966) is an American actor, producer and screenwriter. He has appeared in more than 50 films, including The Journey of Natty Gann, Say Anything..., Grosse Pointe Blank, The Thin Red Line, Con Air, Being John Malkovich, and 1408.
Cusack was born in Evanston, Illinois, to an Irish-American Catholic family. His mother, Ann Paula "Nancy" (née Carolan), is a former mathematics teacher and political activist. His father, Dick Cusack (1925–2003), was an actor, as are his siblings, Ann, Joan, Bill, and Susie. His father was also a documentary filmmaker, owned a film production company, and was a friend of activist Philip Berrigan. Cusack spent a year at New York University before dropping out, saying that he had "too much fire in [his] belly".
Cusack gained fame in the mid-1980s after appearing in teen movies such as Better Off Dead, The Sure Thing, One Crazy Summer, and Sixteen Candles. Cusack made a cameo in the 1988 music video for "Trip At The Brain" by Suicidal Tendencies. In 1989 he starred as Lloyd Dobler in Cameron Crowe's Say Anything.... His roles broadened in the late 1980s and early 1990s with more serious-minded fare such as the politically themed True Colors and the film noir thriller The Grifters. He was later offered the role of the title character of Fred in the film Drop Dead Fred, but dropped out due to a death in his family.

He graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA, 1989, and an MA, 1992. His fiction appeared in Glimmer Train,Southeast Review, Sycamore Review, Tampa Review, and Prism. He lives in Salt Lake City.

Richard Martini (born March 12, 1955) is an award-winning American film director, producer, screenwriter and free lance journalist. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boston University with a degree in Humanities, attended USC Film School and is a 2008 graduate of the Master of Professional Writing Program at USC.
Martini grew up in Northbrook, Illinois. His first documentary film "Special Olympians" won the 1980 Mexico City International Film Festival. He then made his feature film directorial debut with the “quintessential 80’s comedy” (TNT) "You Can't Hurry Love," which featured the debut of Bridget Fonda. Martini was a Humanities Major at Boston University, attended USC Film School. His student short film "Lost Angels" was the film debut of fellow Chicago native Daryl Hannah.
Martini left USC to work for writer/director Robert Towne ("Chinatown," "Ask The Dust") where he did everything from typing up Towne’s notes to walking Towne's Oscar nominated dog Hira. (Hira has the distinction of being the only dog ever nominated in the writing category; when Towne's script for "Greystoke" was nominated, he used the pseudonym P.H. Vazak, his dog's official name). It was after that Martini wrote his first feature “My Champion” which starred Christopher (son of Robert) Mitchum and Yoko Shimada (Shogun). He then wrote the Charlie Sheen comedy “Three For the Road” for Vista Films.

Kurt Kelly is an American politician, businessman, and a native of Ocala, Florida. He was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from the 24th district and is the President/CEO and founder of 3-D Background Screening, a full service pre-employment background search company.
Kelly has been married for 25 years to his wife Sally, a teacher at Madison Street Elementary School of the Arts. Kurt and Sally have two children: Kala, Junior at Florida State University, and Keenan, Junior at Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala.
He holds a Master’s of Science in Education from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor’s of Science from Florida State University. Kelly is a graduate of Central Florida Community College and Ocala Vanguard High School.
Kelly served 6 years on the Marion County School Board. He was elected to the Florida House of Representatives from District 24 on June 26, 2007 in a special election and has subsequently been re-elected.
Kelly serves on several leadership boards such as Children’s Alliance, Success by Six, Ocala Kiwanis, Central Florida Symphony Orchestra, and Child Evangelism Fellowship of Marion County.
