May 9: "Making a movie is a long, long process! Often people who have followed our earlier successful Kickstarter campaign or who know we've been working on this project for a long time ask me, "When is it coming out?" Well, we're still a long way from that happy day -- we're in the slow, difficult process of development..." The Empowerment Manual:
A Guide for Collaborative Groups
by Starhawk
FREE bonus chapter
The Five-Fold Path of Productive Meetings
Starhawk's gift to you is this out-take from her latest book.
DOWNLOAD IT HERE
It
happens over and over again—a group of people come together,
fired up with passion to create change. They begin with huge inspiration
and enthusiasm—and a year later, it’s all foundered
in the mire of conflict. We could have changed the world ten times
over—if we didn’t have to do it together with other
people, those irritating, self-righteous, controlling, fluff-brained,
clueless idiots who are our friends and allies.
We can do better. In her twelfth book, The Empowerment Manual:
A Guide for Collaborative Groups, Starhawk draws on four decades
of experience in circles and collectives to show us how to foster
connection, clear communication, and positive power in ourselves
and our groups.
The Empowerment Manual is required reading for anyone who
wants to help their group avoid disagreement and disillusionment
and become a wellspring of creativity and innovation.
The Empowerment Manual is now in bookstores, or you
can order online from:
• 100 Fires, our independent, and highly recommended,

The
Fifth Sacred Thing Movie Project
|
|
"We believe the world needs a powerful vision
of a positive future here on earth. Once we might simply have
told the tale around the fire. Two decades ago, I wrote it
as a novel. Now, as the world becomes ever more visual, we
want to make it a film."
Take part in the conversation and buzz around the making of
the film on The
Fifth Sacred Thing movie Facebook page. Please show
support with your "Like," and tell your friends. The Fifth Sacred Thing movie project now has its own site www.fifthsacredthing.com and Twitter.
NEW! Our new video for The Fifth Sacred Thing is up! It shows the art and music we've had created with some of the money from our successful Kickstarter -- please take a look at our website (where there's also a close-captioned version for the hearing-impaired) or watch it on YouTube and if you like it, share it widely!

Permaculture:
The Growing Edge is an
antidote to environmental despair, a hopeful and practical
look at a path to a viable, flourishing future. The film introduces
us to inspiring examples of projects, including a visit to
David Holmgren’s own homestead, tracking deer with naturalist
Jon Young, sheet mulching an inner-city garden with Hunters
Point Family, transforming an intersection into a gathering
place with City Repair, and joining mycologist Paul Stamets
as he cleans up an oil spill with mushrooms. We interview
some of the key figures in the Permaculture movement, including
David Holmgren, Penny Livingston-Stark, James Stark, Paul
Stamets, Mark Lakeman, Dr. Elaine Ingham, Maddy Harland, and
others.
The film is available for order on DVD and download now—for
more information on permaculture and the film, including a
promo/trailer, visit the Belili Productions site at www.belili.org.

EAT at Bayview Hunters Point, SF
Why an inner city program?
She’s twenty-two years old—and never knew that bees pollinate
flowers. He’s nineteen, already a father, and he wants
to provide for his daughter but there are no jobs to be had in his
‘hood. She’s twenty, pregnant, and eats at McDonalds
every day—her neighborhood has no supermarket or vegetable stand.
EAT’s mission is to bring the knowledge and resources of regenerative
ecological design to communities with the greatest needs and fewest
resources. Bayview Hunters Point is a corner of San Francisco
with the highest level of toxins, highest murder rate and least access
to fresh food. EAT has partnered with Hunters Point Family,
a community-based organization that works with at risk youth who live
in public housing. We’re pioneering a long term training
in permaculture and environmental leadership—because we believe
that our environmental and social problems can only be solved together.
Are you, like me, furious at the climate deniers and the lack of action
nationally and internationally? We can turn our frustration to positive
action locally, and grow a new generation of truly diverse activists
that includes the voices of those who have been most impacted by the
destruction.
So here’s one positive action you can take today—donate
and help support our work in the inner city and our residential training
programs that teach permaculture design with a grounding in spirit
and a focus on activism. Your donation is tax deductible.
Donate online at: www.earthactivisttraining.org/donate.html
Donate by mail by sending a check made out to Alliance
of Community Trainers (EAT’s fiscal sponsor) and earmarked “EAT”
to ACT PO Box 1286 Austin TX 78767-1286.

Signs
Out of Time
The film documentary on the life of archaeologist Marija
Gimbutas by Starhawk and Donna Read is available on DVD. See the Belili
Productions site for details and ordering information.
Signs Out of Time examines the life and work of world-renowned
archaeologist Dr. Marija Gimbutas. Drawing from her extensive knowledge
of mythology and linguistics, Lithuanian-born Gimbutas uncovered the
life-affirming and goddess-worshiping civilizations of pre-historic
“Old Europe.” Weaving together footage of Gimbutas herself,
as well as interviews with her supporters and critics, Signs Out
of Time reveals a visionary scholar whose theories challenged
the “establishment” of her time and influenced a generation
of scholars, feminists, and social thinkers.
