The City of Masbate (Bikol: Syudad nin Masbate; Cebuano: Dakbayan sa Masbate; Tagalog: Lungsod ng Masbate; Ilonggo: Syudad sang Masbate or Dakbanwa sang Masbate) is a 3rd class city in the province of Masbate, Philippines. It is the capital city of Masbate province. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 81,585 people in 13,400 households.

The account that "Masbate" was coined after the words "masa" and "bate" remains anecdotal, rich with a mixture of facts and folklore.

The islands of Masbate, Ticao and Burias were explored by Captain Luis Enriquez de Guzman in 1569. This exploration work was continued by Captain Andres de Ibarra, Ibalon(Albay) Province assumed jurisdiction over Masbate Islands, and Masbate was named the town's capital village for security reasons, the seat of government had to be moved time and time again. It was first moved to Mobo and then again, to Guiom. It was later transferred to Palanog near the mouth of Lumbang River to make it more accessible to Bicol Mainland and to the islands of Burias and Ticao. However, government records were kept inland in Cagay.

Masbate (Tagalog pronunciation: [masˈbate]) is an island province of the Philippines located in the Bicol Region. Its capital is Masbate City and consists of three major islands: Masbate, Ticao and Burias.

When Captain Luis Enriquez de Guzman anchored on the shores of Masbate in 1569, he found tiny settlements spread along the coasts engaged in flourishing trade with China. Chinese traders visited Masbate and founded small settlements during the Shri-Vijayan and Madjapahit periods. Ruins of cave-like dwellings resembling "kiva" (possibly built by Indians who accompanied the Chinese traders), were found along the coasts of Aroroy, Palanas, and Masbate. Porcelain jars dating back to the 10th century were excavated at Kalanay (Aroroy) in the 1930s.

Historical accounts show that the Christianization of the Bicol Region actually began in Masbate in 1569:

Father Alonso Jimenez was the first missionary to the islands of Masbate, Burias, Leyte and Samar. Then he went to Ibalon (Bicol) in Camarines Province, where he resided many years, and made many religious incursions into Albay Province and Sorsogon Province. Fray Jimenez is considered the apostle of the island of Masbate

Rachelle Ann Go was born in Manila, Philippines. She joined and won several contests^[vague]. Her television debut was on Eat Bulaga! at age eleven. Go graduated from La Immaculada Concepcion School in Pasig. She took up her college life in San Beda College taking up BS-Business Administration. She later became Ms. San Beda in 2004. She joined the cast of Party Pilipinas in 2010.
