Garry Kasparov Interview Maribor 2012 Part2
Garry Kasparov Interview Maribor 2012 Part2 World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov interview with Ksenija Horvat Petrovcic from TV SLO2 at the Kazina Hall of the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor November 2012. Garry Kasparov visited the World Youth Chess Championship as an honourable guest, opened the Chess Academy named after him and handed out the awards to the winners of the chess tournament. Garry Kimovich Kasparov (born 13 April 1963) is a Russian (formerly Soviet) chess grandmaster, a former World Chess Champion, writer and political activist, considered by many to be the greatest chess player of all time. Kasparov became the youngest ever undisputed World Chess Champion in 1985 at the age of 22 by defeating then-champion Anatoly Karpov. He held the official FIDE world title until 1993, when a dispute with FIDE led him to set up a rival organization, the Professional Chess Association. He continued to hold the "Classical" World Chess Championship until his defeat by Vladimir Kramnik in 2000. He was the first world champion to lose a match to a computer under standard time controls, when he lost to Deep Blue in 1997. Kasparov's ratings achievements include being rated world No. 1 according to Elo rating almost continuously from 1986 until his retirement in 2005. He achieved a peak rating of 2851, which was the highest recorded until 2013. He was the world No. 1 ranked player for 255 months, nearly three times as long as his closest rival, Anatoly Karpov. Kasparov also holds records for consecutive tournament victories and Chess Oscars. Kasparov announced his retirement from professional chess on 10 March 2005, so that he could devote his time to politics and writing.- published: 06 Jan 2014

How Life Imitates Ches-Interview With Garry Kasparov
December 2012 Discussion led by: Ksenja Horvat Petrovčič. Garry Kasparov, the 13th World Chess Champion and one of the most recognizable faces of the Russian opposition, has come as a guest of Maribor European Capital of Culture. In the interview, which was filmed exclusively for Television Slovenia, Kasparov talked about the political situation in Russia, Vishy Anand, the twenty-year period when he led the global chess game, the orientations of modern chess and chess academy, which was opened in Slovenia, women and chess, and more. This is a very well conducted interview by the host and one of the best interviews I have seen in recent years. I am sure you will enjoy the video. http://playchess.com/- published: 06 Jan 2014

Garry Kasparov was the highest-rated chess player in the world for over twenty years and is widely considered the greatest chess player that ever lived. On Thursday, 10th March, 2005 Kasparov announced his retirement from competitive chess. He remains the highest-rated player in the history of the game and the only true icon in a sport with over 100 million players. He was the first player to break through the "four minute mile" of chess, a rating over 2800. He remains the only player who topped the 2850 mark. His 2851 ELO rating is still an all-time record. Today this master of strategy applies the insights and unique perspective from his extraordinary chess career to the issues of leadership, logical thinking, strategic thinking, and success on the speakers' circuit and to Russian politics. Known as an extremely intuitive chess player, Kasparov emphasizes intuition's role in reaching one's full potential as an individual and achieving superior performance as the leader of a group or organization. His contests with the super-computer "Deep Blue" were worldwide headline news and he was at the forefront of innovation in chess for over twenty years. He was at the cutting-edge of research and the battles between humans and computers as far back as 1989.- published: 06 Jan 2014

"Reviving the Spirit of Innovation" by Garry Kasparov
Speaker: Garry Kasparov, world chess champion, writer and political activist Summary: The world we live in now is very different from the one that was imagined 50 years ago. Past decades foresaw a future of flying cars and supersonic jets, but commercial air travel is slower in 2013 than it was in 1976. For years we were assured that we would have abundant clean and cheap energy; instead we have record fossil fuel prices, oil spills, and nuclear meltdowns. From poverty rates to superbugs, one thing is certain: this is not the future we were promised. How did we get so far off course from the era of radical tech innovation and ambitious exploration? Why did our culture retreat toward risk-aversion and security? And how can we revive the spirit of innovation, and help bring about its promise of positive transformational change and far-reaching societal benefits? About the speaker: Garry Kasparov came to fame as the youngest world chess champion in history in 1985 at the age of 22. After twenty years as the world's top-ranked player, Kasparov retired from chess in 2005 to take up the struggle for Russian democracy with his organization the United Civil Front. He continues to be a prominent voice for human rights in Russia and around the world. Kasparov has been a contributing editor to The Wall Street Journal since 1991 and is a popular keynote speaker on decision-making, technology, and leadership. His 2007 book, "How Life Imitates Chess", has been published in over 20 languages. Kasparov inserted the precise 8. Bb5+ to attempt to stunt black's development, proceeding to develop an excellent position with 10. e4 and later with 14. Qe2 and 15. Bb2. While Akesson tried to create counterplay on the queenside with 17. ...b5!? - Kasparov continued very energetically on the kingside with 18. f4, 23. f5, and 24. d5!? - sacrificing a pawn to block the a8-h1 diagonal and commencing a very dangerous attack against black's king. 27. Bxf6!! introduced insurmountable complications, leading to black's resignation after 36. Rc7!. This game makes it very clear that Kasparov's uncompromising style began to develop at a very young age and that he would be extremely willing to make sacrifices to win.
