Jackyl
Jackyl is an American hard rock band formed in 1991. Their sound has been described as hard rock, heavy metal and Southern metal. Their eponymous album has sold more than a million copies in the United States with released hit singles like "Down on Me" and "When Will it Rain". The band is best known for its song "The Lumberjack", which features a chainsaw solo by lead singer Jesse James Dupree.
History
Debut album
In 1992, Jackyl's self-titled debut album was released under Geffen Records and eventually went platinum. It features a song entitled "She Loves My Cock", which was omitted from edited versions, as were suggestive elements on the album's cover art. When a Kmart in Georgia refused to sell Jackyl, the band played an impromptu concert in front of the store. Footage of the event was used for the music video of their single "I Stand Alone".
Push Comes to Shove
Their second album released in 1994 is titled Push Comes to Shove. Also that year, the band appeared at Woodstock '94 in Saugerties, New York. The album contains the singles "Push Comes to Shove" and "Headed for Destruction".

A music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Consequentially, YouTube has been converted into a social media platform for celebrities and artists to market themselves to their fans and audiences.

Geffen Records
Geffen Records is an American major record label, owned by Universal Music Group, which operates as one third of the Interscope Geffen A&M Records label. Today, it is headquartered in the city of New York and is headed by Gee Roberson, who reports to John Janick, CEO of Interscope Records.
History
Geffen Records was started in 1980 by music industry businessman David Geffen who, in the early 1970s, had founded Asylum Records. Geffen stepped down from Asylum in 1975, when he crossed over to film and was named a vice-president of Warner Bros. Pictures. He was fired from Warner circa 1978, but remained locked in a 5-year contract, which prevented him from working elsewhere. He returned to work in 1980 and struck a deal with Warner Bros. Records to create Geffen Records. Warner provided 100 percent of the funding for the label's operations and distributed its releases in the United States and Canada; Epic Records handled distribution in the rest of the world until 1985, when Warner Bros. also took over those territories. Profits were split 50/50 between Geffen and the respective distributors.

Shot out of Kennesaw, Georgia with its wild, untamed and uncouth approach to rock 'n' roll, Jackyl formed in 1991 with equal parts hard rock, heavy metal and Southern rock, bringing back rock 'n' roll, back to its down-to-earth, wild, fun-loving origins. Full of spit, swagger and a "dirty" sense of humor, Jackyl quickly earned a deal with Geffen Records. Jackyl's live shows were legendary before the ink dried on the Geffen contract.
Their 1992 self-titled debut album went platinum and featured notable rock radio hits like "Down On Me", "When Will It Rain", "I Stand Alone" and, most notably "The Lumberjack" which vocalist Jesse James Dupree performs a chain-saw solo. Dupree's chain-saw escapades became one of many Jackyl trademarks. Jackyl hit the road, stopping long enough to record new albums.
1993 saw "Mental *@%.!" featured on 'The Beavis & Butt-head Experience,' a compilation album of songs tied in with MTV's hit cartoon series; it was certified triple platinum.
1994 was one of the most important years in the band's career. Their second album 'Push Comes To Shove' went gold. Jackyl had one of the most acclaimed performances at Woodstock '94 in Saugerties, NY. The resulting double album 'Woodstock 94' went platinum and included "Headed For Destruction" (a track from 'Push Comes To Shove').
In 1996, the live recording of the 'Night Of The Living Dead' was released exclusively in Europe on Mayhem Records.
It wasn't long before Jackyl followed A&R; legend John Kalodner (who signed them to Geffen) to Sony Music's imprint Epic Records. 'Cut the Crap' was released in 1997 and benefited from two industry heavyweights overseeing its recording: producer Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Metallica) and mixer Kevin Shirley (Silverchair, Aerosmith). The album spawned the rock radio hit "Locked and Loaded," which included guest vocals by AC/DC's Brian Johnson. This was the first time Johnson recorded with another artist since he joined AC/DC 17 years earlier.
In 1998, a collection of B-sides titled 'Stayin' Alive' appeared on Shimmering Tone Records. The biggest highlight of the year was the best-of collection 'Choice Cuts' released by Geffen Records.
The band earned two Guinness Book of World Records citations and the designation "The Hardest Working Band in Rock 'N' Roll" for performing 100 shows in 50 days as well as 21 shows in 24 hours. Dupree says the most grueling of the two was 21 shows in 24 hours. Jackyl completed the task in Texas and the shows were done with full lights and sound. The daytime sets were 45 minutes long whereas the nighttime sets were between 90 and 120 minutes long.

We had a chance to sit down with the charismatic 'Mr. Lumberjack' himself, Jesse James Dupree, and discuss many of his different facets and endeavors. We talked about Jackyl, their current tour, live performance mentality, and upcoming new material. We also conversed about his friendship, as well as 1997 and 2002 collaboration with Brian Johnson from AC/DC and what was like working with this legendary music figure. We also got to revisit the history and origins behind Jesse's famous chainsaw playing. Through a social equality improvement lens we discussed Jackyl's cover of Mother Finest's 'Just Like a Negro' the implications of this musical venture, and his collaboration with Darryl D.M.C.
