John Henton & Wendy Hammers on Howie's Late Night Rush
John Henton has adopted South Lake Tahoe s his second home. As he says when he comes up here to perform, "I represent the South Lake area and I say to you now, what what?" Way before he became our spokesman for the lake (south part only) John appeared in numerous television shows including his own half-hour comedy special for Showtime called John Henton: Comedy With An Attitude and Comedy Centrals Premium Blend. He really became a fixture though when he starred on the successful FOX TV series, Living Single co-starring Queen Latifah. The show received stellar ratings and TV Guide selected Hentons character as one of the break out characters of the season. And if that wasnt enough Henton would garner further recognition when he signed up to play the character of Milsap on the sitcom, The Hughleys. That show gave Henton a huge and loyal following even to this day. When The Hughleys moved to UPN during its third season on Monday nights it was the anchoring program for the fledgling network and stayed there for another two years. Johns body of work was recognized in 2001 and 2002 with an NAACP Image Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Wendy Hammers is a 'newbie' to these parts having her debut both at The Improv up here as well as being on the Late Night Rush. Comedian John Henton jokes that, I played Overton in Living Single and Milsap on The Hughleys but now Im an out of work comedian. Maybe not in the sitcom world but as a headliner no one is better both on and off stage. Henton has a lot to be thankful for when looking back at what hes already accomplished. He was one of the last comics to appear on The Tonight Show when Johnny Carson was That was back in 1991. Soon after he appeared on that show when Jay Leno took over (the first time).Henton started out on The Bob Hope Young Comedians Special in addition to starring in his own half-hour comedy special for Showtime called John Henton: Comedy With An Attitude. He was also on Comedy Centrals Premium Blend. As mentioned earlier John is probably best known for his FOX TV series, Living Single starring Queen Latifah. John Henton introduced himself on my morning radio show as, "I once played Overton on the hit television series, "Living Single" and Milsap on "The Hughleys" but now I'm an out of work comedian." "He may not be a regular on the sitcom circuit but he's doing very well on the comedy club and recently the cruise ship circuit. John has a lot of interesting 'firsts' in his career like being one of the very last comics to have appeared on The Tonight Show when Johnny Carson. Soon after he appeared on that same show when Jay Leno took over (the first time around before Conan). One of my favorites of all time. Latina comedienne Shayla Rivera is also a fav of mine and in fact calls in every Wednesday on my show with "It's Rocket Science with Shayla Rivera." Shayla really was a rocket scientist working on the space shuttle and Space Station systems at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston. She attended Texas A&M University earning her degree in Aerospace Engineering and then landed the gig at NASA soon after. This was her chosen career path because she wanted to be an astronaut when she grew up. Quite a dream too for the ambitious Shayla. While she was at NASA Shayla realized that her calling was going to lie elsewhere. She had anticipated being in a world on the leading edge of technology guided by Americas' greatest minds but instead Shayla found out, "It was more like being at K-Mart with lots of pocket protectors." John Henton & Joanie Fagan on Howie's Late Night Rush
"I once played Overton on the hit television series, "Living Single" and also played Milsap on "The Hughleys" but now I'm an out of work comedian" so says John Henton who is one of my favs. He's been on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and also with the late, great Johnny Carson too! Lots of great credits including being nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series proving that Henton could cross boundaries with the roles he perfected. Quite simply put he is the best. Also on today is Joanie Fagan who, in addition to her stand up is the creative force behind The 3 Blonde Moms. Joanie's been on television, movies and prozac. She is my favorite 'Perky Mom' and never have I seen her in a crappy mood. What up with that? Enjoy the two of them as this was their first time performing onstage together.
