Mayo Methot (March 3, 1904 – June 9, 1951), also known as Mayo Methot Bogart, was an American film and theater actress. She appeared in over 30 films, as well as performing on Broadway. Tragically she also suffered from alcoholism, the effects of which, she ultimately succumbed to, in 1951.

Methot was born in Portland, Oregon. She started performing, on stage at the age of four, or five. Standing a little more than five feet tall, earned her the nickname, "The Portland Rosebud."

She performed with the Baker Stock Company in Portland, Oregon until 1922 when she left for New York, where she met George M. Cohan; and, worked in "Great Day", "All the King's Men", "The Song and Dance Man", and "The Medicine Man", totaling some ten shows, between 1923 and 1930.

She became a popular actress on Broadway during the 1920s where she was admired for both her acting and singing ability. While on Broadway she originated a role in the Vincent Youmans / Billy Rose musical Great Day (1929), introducing the standard "More Than You Know" and several others.

Carole Lombard (October 6, 1908 – January 16, 1942) was an American actress. She is particularly noted for her comedic roles in the screwball comedies of the 1930s. She is listed as one of the American Film Institute's greatest stars of all time and was the highest-paid star in Hollywood in the late 1930s, earning around US$500,000 per year^{[citation needed]} (more than five times the salary of the US President). Lombard's career was cut short when she died at the age of 33 in a plane crash while returning from a World War II Bond tour.

Queen of the 1930s screwball comedies, she personified the anxiety of a nervous age. Graham Greene praised the "heartbreaking and nostalgic melodies" of her faster-than-thought delivery. "Platinum blonde, with a heart-shaped face, delicate, impish features and a figure made to be swathed in silver lamé, she wriggled expressively through such classics of hysteria as Twentieth Century and My Man Godfrey."

Jack La Rue (May 3, 1902, New York City, New York – January 11, 1984, Santa Monica, California) was an American film and stage actor.

Born as Gaspere Biondolillo, he worked on the New York stage from 1923 to 1931. He moved to Hollywood, where he appeared in numerous films. Sometimes mistaken for Humphrey Bogart, he played mostly thugs and gangsters. For example, in such a role, La Rue tormented the wrongly-accused Richard Cromwell in Universal Pictures's anti-Nazi action drama Enemy Agent (1940).

His son was actor Jack La Rue, Jr.

La Rue died of a heart attack at the age of 81. He was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, California.

Ruth Elizabeth "Bette" Davis (April 5, 1908 – October 6, 1989) was an American actress of film, television and theater. Noted for her willingness to play unsympathetic characters, she was highly regarded for her performances in a range of film genres, from contemporary crime melodramas to historical and period films and occasional comedies, although her greatest successes were her roles in romantic dramas.

After appearing in Broadway plays, Davis moved to Hollywood in 1930, but her early films for Universal Studios were unsuccessful. She joined Warner Bros. in 1932 and established her career with several critically acclaimed performances. In 1937, she attempted to free herself from her contract and although she lost a well-publicized legal case, it marked the beginning of the most successful period of her career. Until the late 1940s, she was one of American cinema's most celebrated leading ladies, known for her forceful and intense style. Davis gained a reputation as a perfectionist who could be highly combative, and confrontations with studio executives, film directors and costars were often reported. Her forthright manner, clipped vocal style and ubiquitous cigarette contributed to a public persona which has often been imitated and satirized.

Isabel Jewell (July 19, 1907 – April 5, 1972) was an American actress most active in the 1930s and early 1940s.

Born in Shoshoni, Fremont County, Wyoming, Jewell was a Broadway actress who achieved immediate success and glowing critical reviews in two productions, Up Pops the Devil (1930) and Blessed Event (1932).

She was brought to Hollywood by Warner Brothers for the film version of the latter. Jewell appeared in a variety of supporting roles during the early 1930s. She played stereotypical gangster's women in such films as Manhattan Melodrama (1934) and Marked Woman (1937). She was well received playing against type, as an innocent seamstress sentenced to death on the guillotine, in A Tale of Two Cities (1935).

Her most significant role was as the prostitute Gloria Stone in Lost Horizon (1937). In the mid to late 1930s, Jewell was seen at nightclubs with William Hopper (who appeared on Perry Mason and was the son of gossip columnist Hedda Hopper and stage star DeWolf Hopper).

Jewell's films included Gone with the Wind (1939) (in the role of "that white trash, Emmy Slattery"), Northwest Passage (1940), High Sierra (1941), and the low-budget The Leopard Man (1943). By the end of the 1940s, her roles had reduced in significance to the degree that her performances were often uncredited, e.g. Men in White (1934 – scenes deleted). She also performed in radio dramas in the 1950s, including This is Your FBI.
