San Angelo, Texas

San Angelo /sæn ˈændʒəloʊ/ is a city in and the county seat of Tom Green County, Texas, United States. Its location is in the Concho Valley, a region of West Texas between the Permian Basin to the northwest, Chihuahuan Desert to the southwest, Osage Plains to the northeast, and Central Texas to the southeast. According to a 2014 Census estimate, San Angelo has a total population of 98,975. The city is the principal city and center of the San Angelo metropolitan area, which has a population of 118,182.

San Angelo is home to Angelo State University, historic Fort Concho, and Goodfellow Air Force Base.

Some common nicknames of San Angelo include Angelo, the River City, the Concho City, the Pearl of the Conchos, and the Oasis of West Texas.

History

Prior to the coming of Europeans, San Angelo was the center of the Jumano people. The area had been inhabited for thousands of years by succeeding cultures of indigenous peoples. In 1632, a short-lived mission of Franciscans under Spanish auspices was founded in the area to serve the Indians. The mission was led by the friars Juan de Salas and Juan de Ortega, with Ortega remaining for six months. The area was visited by the Castillo-Martin expedition of 1650 and the Diego de Guadalajara expedition of 1654.

Angelo is a character in Shakespeare's play Measure for Measure. He is the play's main antagonist.

Role in the play

Angelo is the deputy to Vincentio, the Duke of Vienna, who begins the play by departing the city under mysterious circumstances and leaves the strait-laced Angelo in power. Angelo's first act is to begin the enforcement of an old law that makes fornication punishable by death, but proves himself a hypocrite when Isabella, the sister of Claudio, the first man sentenced under the law, comes to plead for her brother's life. Angelo agrees to commute the sentence only if she will sleep with him. Angelo is ultimately duped by being set up with Mariana, a woman he was once betrothed to, who masquerades as Isabella at the assignation. And after Angelo thinks he has attained the object of desire, he covers his tracks by ordering the execution of Claudio after all. But before the scheme is revealed to him, he admits his angst over his behaviour:

"This deed unshapes me quite, makes me unpregnant
And dull to all proceedings. A deflower'd maid!
And by an eminent body that enforced
The law against it! But that her tender shame
Will not proclaim against her maiden loss,

Angelo (band)

Angelo is a Japanese visual kei rock band, formed in 2006 by three members of Pierrot. Originally a trio of vocalist Kirito, bassist Kohta and drummer Takeo, guitarists Karyu (ex-D'espairsRay) and Giru (ex-Vidoll) joined in 2011.

History

Four months after Pierrot disbanded, Kirito, Kohta and Takeo formed Angelo on August 14, 2006. They held "The Creature was Reborn Out of Hades" free concert at Yoyogi Park on October 4 to an audience of 5,000. The trio produced their first single, aptly titled "Reborn", on November 8 and began the Broken World, After the Heaven tour three days later. They released their first album Rebirth of Newborn Baby on April 18, 2007, and quickly followed it with the mini-album The Freak Show on December 21.

In 2008, they released the singles "Chaotic Bell" and "Sister" on June and October 22, respectively. Also in October, Angelo held fan-club only activities in Los Angeles, including a concert at the Whisky a Go Go. The band released their second album Metallic Butterfly on April 22, 2009. Angelo performed at the two-day V-Rock Festival '09 on October 24, 2009. They held their first New Year's countdown concert on December 31, 2009 at the second gymnasium at Yoyogi National Gymnasium.

San (band)

San (Serbian Cyrillic: Сан, trans. Dream) was a Yugoslav rock band from Belgrade. The band was formed in 1971 by the composer Aleksandar "Sanja" Ilić, and disbanded in 1975, after the band's vocalist Predrag Jovičić died in concert from an electric shock.

Band history

The band was formed in 1971 by keyboardist and composer Aleksandar "Sanja" Ilić. He gathered former members of the bands Smeli, Samonikli, Bele Višnje and Vragolani, and the band consisted of Ilić (keyboards), Predrag Jovičić (vocals), Aleksandar Slaviković (guitar), Dragoslav Jovanović (bass guitar) and Aleksandar Grujić (drums).

In 1971, the band released their first 7" single, featuring the songs "Tebe sam želeo" ("I Wanted You") and "Helena", through PGP-RTB. Two years later, the band released the single with the songs "Papirni brodovi" ("Paper Ships") and "Hej, malena" ("Hey, Little Girl"). In 1974, the band released three 7" singles: the first one featuring the songs "Legenda" ("Legend") and "Milena", the second one featuring the songs "Jedan svet za sve" ("One World for All") and "Srce na dlanu" ("Heart on a Sleeve"), and the third one featuring the songs "Anabela" and "Zvezda ljubavi" ("Love Star"). During these several years, Ilić wrote music for the film ITD (ETC.) and the rock opera Arhanđeli i automati (Archangels and Automatons) performed in the Dadov Theatre.

The radio station provides programming to attract listeners. Commercial radio stations make profits by selling advertising. "Radio" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist Darius Rucker. It was released on July 22, 2013 as the third single from his album True Believers. Rucker wrote the song with Luke Laird and Ashley Gorley.

Content

The song is a reflection on the narrator's teenage years: specifically, of borrowing his mother's car to take his girlfriend for a ride, and listening to songs on the radio while doing so.

Critical reception

The song generally received favorable reviews. Bobby Peacock of Roughstock gave the song four and a half stars out of five, saying that "it sounds like the kind of fun song you would want to hear on the radio at a memorable moment." Peacock praised Rucker's "all-smiles delivery" and the song's "incredibly catchy melody and tight production." He also compared its theme to "I Watched It All (On My Radio)" by Lionel Cartwright. Tammy Ragusa of Country Weekly gave the song an A grade, calling it "the perfect marriage of an artist’s effervescent personality with an upbeat song, this one about the love of music." Billy Dukes of Taste of Country gave the song two and a half stars out of five, writing that "the uptempo tribute to young love, open roads and, of course, the radio is familiar and easy to fall for, especially when powered by Rucker’s unequaled exuberance." However, Dukes also called the song "a little fluffy" and "not difficult to forget."
